— Ace Sipsey Street Irregulars has excerpts and further details and context, and the CBS story is hair-raising in itself.
Congressional investigators tell CBS News there's evidence the U.S. Attorney's office in Arizona sought to cover up a link between their controversial gunwalking operation known as "Fast and Furious" and the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry....
In a letter, Grassley and Issa say the lead prosecutor on Fast and Furious, Assistant US Attorney Emory Hurley, learned almost immediately that guns allowed onto the street in his case, had been recovered at Terry's murder. "(I)n the hours after Agent Terry's death," says the letter from Grassley and Issa, Hurley apparently "contemplated the connection between the two cases and sought to prevent the connection from being disclosed." The Justice Department recently transferred Hurley out of the criminal division into the civil division.
An internal ATF email dated the day after Terry's death reveals the quick decision to not disclose the source of the weapons found at the murder scene: "... this way we do not divulge our current case (Fast and Furious) or the Border Patrol shooting case."
Another ATF email indicates that the justification both offices used to not charge the suspect with crimes related to the murder scene "was to not 'complicate' the FBI's investigation."

For that matter, who is Hurley's boss's boss?
If the government hadn't become a total failure at law enforcement, ethics and plain old common sense and decency: SCoaMF, in the dock, answering an indictment.

One thing this whole story torpedos is the claim that the left hasn't attacked the right to keep and bear arms over fear of political heat.
They just didn't make a frontal assault. They tried to come at it sideways.
They, always, always, always go after the 2nd. Without fail. Typically they'll attack it the most when they get cornered on something else.
I've been obseving this behavior since 1991.

I'm personally hoping for lots and lots of indictments, cooperating witnesses, etc.

We're almost three years into Obama's administration and there hasn't been one scandal yet.
At least one covered by the media in the way they normally cover scandals.
Do you remember Reagan constantly getting grilled over Iran Contra? Bush over Sooper Seekret Agent Valerie Plame, Clinton of Lewinsky(after drudge forced their hand)??
I can think of 5-10 Obama scandals off the top of my head that have been covered by the blogosphere but not the MSM.
This one has to stick. How many people have died as a result of this F&F? 100? How many were civillians? Half?
This is a major scandal and needs to be covered as such. Let's hope CBS keeps digging and, you know, actually covers it on their nightly news.

I find this interesting:
But the US Attorney's office working both the Terry murder and the "Fast and Furious" operation did not immediately disclose the two had any link. Two Republicans investigating the scandal, Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) say there's evidence that officials at ATF and the US Attorney's office sought to hide the connection.
Why the prominent use of "Republicans" in that sentence? Why not say, "Two Congressmen" instead? Or make note of the committee that's pursuing the investigation, of which Issa and Grassley are a part? After all, their party affiliations are clearly identified after their names.
Since I don't trust the MFM, I'll just go ahead and say that the reporter included "Republicans" like that so that all the Obama supporting sycophants reading the story would immediately tune out and not read any further. "Oh, it's just a Tea Party smear. Never mind."
I know, I know. Conspiracy theories are time wasters. But it's just so blatant sometimes that you have to wonder...

Remember, we (sadly) expect corruption from our Government officials. It's never the scandal that brings them down, it's the cover-up.
Someone was wishing for something to make Barack Obama, who is a stuttering clusterf*ck of a miserable failure, resign- even if it meant 16 - 17 months of President Joe Biden. This could be the first domino there, if CBS doesn't get intimidated into shutting up.

Easy. They do what Dems do; lie. People here keep pointing out that Dems in NJ managed to yank an incumbent Senator (Torracelli) off a ballot and replace him with a corpse (Lautenberg) and got away with it. And for the piss de resistence, demanded that ballots cast by service personnel be set aside since they didn't have Lautenberg's name on them.
This is what the dems are and what they do. And the MFM will cheerfully report the increase in the chocolate ration.

At least locally, the CBS affiliate is not even on the radar so far as News goes in Tucson.
I think they have lotto numbers or something...
NBC has sort of a local legacy (Lupita Murrrrrillo in another Nogales tunnel investigative report with "local color") and ABC is all over TV and radio about new ways that Face-Book is giving lead poisoning to Tucson pedophiles via text messaging (K-GUN 9 is on...Your Side!!!) or something.
Honestly, last time I checked the local CBS affilliate at the Noon hour, I was shocked to find that Soap Operas still exist.

I remember early on in Obama's tenure listening to him and others claim that American guns were causing all the carnage south of the border--in an attempt of course to justify further controls on guns.
This operation was developed to provide evidence to support their false claims.

Somewhere in the White House or the DOJ offices there is a slip of paper. It is a printout of an email or in-house, classified memo that says, in essence, "We're going to let the guns go to Mexico." And scribbled on that piece of paper in blue felt tip, in Obama's handwriting, is the message, "This sounds good. Go ahead. - BHO"
That piece of paper is sitting in someone's file. Some low-level employee who saw what was happening and decided to keep some evidence to cover his (or her) ass when the shit hit the fan.

OK you know that thing where you tie a rope around your neck and then to a tree?
Yeah it doesn't work with a bicycle.
It just hurts like hell.
I think I need a doctor.

What reporters write at the L.A. Times and what the editors think are two separate issues. The Times' editors are progressive commies all the way. Just read the Opinion section. They are dedicated in their belief of the hard left progressive douche-baggery ideology.
I hope Issa decides that a special prosecutor is necessary on this. The lefties will cry fowl and "it's just a political witch hunt," which, INMHO, will really draw more attention to it, especially about how the family of Brian Terry is getting screwed royally by the DOJ. The MBM will be drawn into it kicking and screaming.

"But the effort went out of control after agents lost track of many of the weapons."
Kinda gives the reader the impression it was the incompetency of the agents. Whereas it should read: "But the effort went out of control after agents were directed not to track the weapons that were purchased and then sold by straw buyers to various cartel organizations."
Because the agents were directed not to track the weapons is the heart of the scandal, and that is not made clear by the reporter.

The WikiLeaks document dump had all sorts of damaging classified information......and yet there was nothing about this? Hmmm.
Maybe WikiLeaks held something back, as an insurance policy against prosecution.

No Democrat is going to challenge Obama! Stop dreaming! Without Obama on the top of the ticket they lose 96% of the black vote in this election and in elections for the next 40 years. Ain't going to happen!

Maybe WikiLeaks held something back, as an insurance policy against prosecution. because they are anti-american partisan political hacks.
FIFY.
I would probably support Wikileaks if it was legit, and what it presented itself as. I like and admire the idea behind it very much.
But in practice? No. Viscious little bloody-handed hacks. It's like google - Mission statement: "Do no evil"; Business model: into the ovens, mwuahahaha.
Many things are not what they claim to be. Especially when you're dealing with dishonest hacks.

Keep in mind that the congressional investigations into just Operation Fast and Furious, and are thus far aimed very narrowly at the Department of Justice (ATF/main DOJ)
The investigators have at least two rumored more gun-walking operations they are looking into in Texas, and one in Florida, and they haven't expanded the OFF probe to look at DHS, Treasury, and State yet.
This could easily bleed the administration for months, or it could suddenly blowout cabinet officials and the White House.
It's going to get a lot worse, and I anticipate resignations at all levels of government, and possible criminal charges, both here in the United States, and in Mexico.

I'm not kidding here. They killed someone who was on our side, but also killed many other people. They really did radically increase the lethality of a lot of thugs. If it can be shown they actually wanted to see an increase in violence for some Chicago style political point about gun control, then it's not manslaughter... it's murder.
