— DrewM Not as dramatic a revolution as in Egypt but still pretty important.
Via Jamie Dupree.
House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers today announced his intent to cut $100 billion in spending in the upcoming Continuing Resolution (CR) compared to the PresidentÂ’s fiscal year 2011 request. The statement by Chairman Rogers follows:
“My Committee has been working diligently to go line-by-line in every agency budget to find and cut unnecessary spending to reduce our deficit and help our economy thrive.
“After meeting with my subcommittee Chairs, we have determined that the CR can and will reach a total of $100 billion in cuts compared to the President’s request immediately - fully meeting the goal outlined in the Republican ‘Pledge to America’ in one fell swoop. Our intent is to make deep but manageable cuts in nearly every area of government, leaving no stone unturned and allowing no agency or program to be held sacred. I have instructed my committee to include these deeper cuts, and we are continuing to work to complete this critical legislation.”
This is a big change in how business is done. Usually cuts are announced and the amounts are lowered. Now they are going up.
As always...the Winston Wolfe rule is in effect. This is just a proposal and they tried to weasel out before. Keep the heat on until it's signed into law.

This was on Politico before it was "disappeared":
Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) warned his colleagues that to cut more now, risks forcing layoffs of federal employees at a time when both parties say their priority is to reduce unemployment.
For example, Rogers said the necessary cuts in the DEAÂ’s budget could put the agency at really pre-1992 levels in some cases, and cuts to FAA operations risk 41 day furloughs for the air traffic controller workforces."

The only country in history to demand the govt spend less. See what happens when the people are the ones responsible instead of some elite? Sense.
That being said, let's see if they can do it.

She doesn't know? Just who's in charge here?
Also, according to Politico, the House freshmen and other members of the RSC are admitting that The Pledge doesn't specifically speak to $100B in cuts, but they were tired of explaining that.

On the minus side only about 7% of deficit spending.
Note that with this "cut" deficit spending will still be three times larger then it has ever been under a Republican congress.

Because all spending must originate in the House. The Administration's budget is only advisory. Remember, there is no line-item veto.
Let's start with the 2010 budget (or 2009) and cut $100 billion from there.
Again, this is a continuing resolution to cover March - Sept. of what was supposed to be the 2010 budget.
Again, that's only for a 6 month budget; annualized that would be $200 billion.
This is only an appetizer for the next full budget.

That describes a number of young conservatives in Congress. Plus:
Arizona Republican Rep. Jeff Flake didnÂ’t rule out the option of running for the open Senate seat that will be left vacant by Sen. Jon Kyl, who announced his retirement this afternoon.
The six-term member of Congress would not affirm that he will run, but said he will announce his choice “soon enough.”
“Today is Kyl’s day, I don’t want to distract from that,” he told The Daily Caller, who caught up with him outside the Capitol building Thursday afternoon. “But I’ll announce my intentions soon enough.”
The tight-lipped congressman started to say more, but stopped, smiled and repeated, “Today is Kyl’s day.”

No. Not a good idea if you are thinking of the current Check Here box for political campaigns. That money does not come out of the taxpayers refund. If they want to fund it, let them write a check. However, that isn't the problem. They want YOU to fund it.
And, with that little check box, you will.

Do.Not.Go.There
Fiscal democracy at its worst. Hell, the two concepts shouldn't even be side by side in the same sentence
It'll either be chaos as the number of choices balloons into the thousands
- or -
Any choice that is deemed "overfunded" by our overlords will be trimmed back to its "proper" level, with the remainder sent to other, less-loved choices (kind of like how the United Way does things).
