— rdbrewer Charles Krauthammer criticizes Obama's ridiculous "I'm above the political fray" act and lays out his plan for dealing with the White House. He say that Republicans should call the president on the August 2nd bluff by passing a clean bill with spending cuts and a modest, short term increase in the debt limit, and then send that bill to the president and Democrats in the Senate, daring them to put the country in default.
Obama is angling for a bigger deal to get the budget issues past the election.
I would add that the Republicans need something similar to Bill Clinton's quick response team to deal with Obama's blizzard of lies. He gets away with pointing his finger and saying "they're ideologues, and I'm not" too often. He does this over and over. And, like Krauthammer says, if you just started paying attention to the debate, it would appear that Obama is indeed above the fray, dealing with recalcitrant children. In reality, he's the biggest brat in the room. Every time the president does that, someone--the designated responder--should mug every reporter with a microphone and make light of the fact the president doesn't consider himself an ideologue and part of the problem.
Restart the video for analysis by Stephen Hayes and A.B. Stoddard and to hear the part of Obama's news conference where he laughably acts like he's dealing with child-ideologues.

Inevitably, there will have to be accountability reform -- holding the media accountable for the same crimes that the business world faces when it materially mistakes fact (particularly in order to represent financial issues in a particular light). At least financial misreporting only skews the investment in one company; journalistic misreporting skews political investment in the entire nation.
Public trials, prioritizing the prosecution of the greatest offenders in order to make an example of propagandist excess and political corruption, will be necessary. I'd suggest that the guilty consider a lower profile and separation from the progressive war machine before it's too late.

Krauthammer is racist for wanting the racist Republicans in the House of Representatives to put Obama on the spot, because , if you haven't noticed, Obama is a Black man and any resistance to the pure intentions of a Black is by definition racist.
Furthermore, Ace is racist for promoting Krauthammer's racist diatribe and by extension so is the racist moron who is sockpuppeting me and racistly exposing my idiocy on his blog in these racist comments section.

Unless my google-fu is total fail, the info in these two charts should crush all hope:
Interest on Federal Debt yields:
2010 $413,954,825,362.17
2009 $383,071,060,815.42
2008 $451,154,049,950.63
While the chart of historical Treasury rates for the last 30 years yields: (excuse the long list)
1981,16.39 1982,12.24 1983,9.09 1984,10.23 1985,8.10 1986,6.80 1987,6.66 1988,7.57 1989,9.21 1990,8.10 1991,5.69 1992,3.52 1993,3.02 1994,4.21 1995,5.83 1996,5.30 1997,5.46 1998,5.35 1999,4.97 2000,6.24 2001,3.88 2002,1.67 2003,1.13 2004,1.35 2005,3.22 2006,4.97 2007,5.02 2008,1.92 2009,0.16 2010,0.18
When interest rates go back to the historical averages, the entire tax take of the Feds will be used up just servicing the debt, if we're lucky.
Superboned.

Pass Tom McClintock's "Full Faith & Credit Act" (HR 421). Do NOT raise the debt ceiling under any circumstances.

Yes, the federal debt has grown by nearly $3 trillion dollars in the past three years. And yes, the dollar amount of that debt is quite large (in excess of $14 trillion and headed toward $15 trillion should the ceiling be raised). But large numbers are not the problem. The U.S. has a large economy (slightly larger than that debt number).

Clinton was smart enough to not play the class warfare game with his tax hikes. He knew there wasn't enough money in taxing the just the rich. He raised taxes on everyone and everyone had some skin in the game which is probably what it is going to take to get us out of this mess. Obama has conviced 50% of the population that they are rightous in not paying taxes and that if he could just talk the republicans into rasing taxes $70 Billion on the rich it would pay off the $1.6 Trillion deficit.

No, Pep, I'm not being sarcastic. That's how I categorize those who pose as conservatives but who compromise.
How would you categorize those who support increasing the debt limit when it is not necessary to do so?
Do you disagree that McClintock's bill would protect debt service payments without needing to raise the debt limit, thereby taking the non-issue of a default off the table?
Even if it only passes the House and never gets through the Senate, it squarly places the responsibility on the Democrats. They will be on record as having opposed protecting debt service payments, and if they and Obama choose to default and prioritize, it will clearly be their decision and fault.
What do you see wrong with the "Full Faith & Credit Act"?

The debt is U.S. treasury bonds that have been sold to investors. If Joe buys a bond that has an interest rate of 0.5% if current interest rates go up to 1.0% it doesn't mean Joe gets any more money.
So if interest rates go up it means new bonds will cost them more money.
So what would happen is they would have to quit borrowing more "new" money. Something they need to do NOW.

In our sound bite culture and with a hostile media, that is the only way to get heard.
I think part of that is because they don't all share the same ideas and some of them are unwilling to go on-record as being individually publicly supportive of measures they voted for, e.g. the House Budget. So combine differing goals and approaches with varying degrees of willingness to discuss certain issues and you have a problem.

Use the talking heads like them for what they are good for, but don't trust them to care about anything but prestige and money.
Every now and then one of them will let the mask slip and let their utter disdain for the common man slip out.
Like Kondrake and Will saying that securing the border with Mexico and fighting Amnesty is "mean".
Or Krauthammer bashing the Tea Party people and Bachmann and Palin as a bunch of lightweight nuts.
Krauthammer and Co. are tolerable and useful only when we remember that they would run our nobody-ass over in a heartbeat to save Juan Williams or Alan Colmes. Because they protect their own class and the folks they'll see tonight at the cocktail party.
It's about the status and the chess game for them. Not about the country.

We occupy a very unique time in history for we are presently operating in completely uncharted waters with a national debt spoken in the parlance of nearly 15 Trillion dollars with, as incredulous as it sounds and it is, fiscal budget deficits of 1.4 Trillion projected over the next 10 years.
This is indeed completely uncharted territory to begin with but then when the government's unfunded liabilities are thrown into the mix of over 45 Trillion with trillions more in government absorbed toxic banking investments. And on top of that throw into the mix that we have become world's largest debtor nation currently monetizing our own debt, this no longer becomes a complex problem as much as one of clear and present economic danger.

That won't even do it. Even if we had 10% growth in GDP that is only about another $250 Billion a year in tax receipts. Our deficit is $1.6 Trillion.
It will take massive cuts, tax increases and insane growth to get even to balance much less start paying off debt.
Posted by: robtr at July 16, 2011 12:34 PM (MtwBb)
The tax increase Obama is posturing for is a fat sacrificial calf. He'll easily let that go, claim centrist bipartisanship, and brand the Republicans as protectors of the fabulously rich in exchange for spending cuts coupled with a raise in the debt ceiling that extends past the 2012 elections.
The good news is that Boehner and McConnell know this too. Short of Obama fully embracing a Paul Ryan budget plan, Boehner and McConnell will do their level best to make sure that the debt ceiling must be addressed again in the middle of the election cycle. That's the reason Obama made the preemptive move of promising to veto any short term plan. And that's also why Obama will never go for the McConnell backup plan. - Not once, but three times Obama would have to personally raise the debt ceiling between now and the election. He'll never sign on to that.
Obama knows he can't get a tax increase under any circumstance. That's his bullshit-giveaway-bargaining-chip in exchange for not having to address the debt ceiling again in his first term.
It's an open question as to whether Boehner and McConnell can hold out for a short term increase in the debt ceiling. If they can, Obama's chances for reelection will go from quite vulnerable to outright bleak.

He can easily take care of an extra $6T in debt. Well why didn't he start there? Start from the assumption of balanced budgets as a necessity.
You have one of two options:
(1) If it's only balancing the discretionary side, you have a whole number of things you can cut and/or combine as necessary. Far more simple.
(2) Balancing the entirety of the budget would be more difficult because mandatory comprises 63% of federal spending. You could do it if you made cuts to everything in mandatory while fast-tracking reforms, but no one is going to like it.

What the Journolist scandal showed is that the cockroaches in the media all band together until someone comes up with a half-assed lie that sounds believable - then they all run with it. People who are working with the truth as their basis of doing things don't do that - which is why we have no coordinated talking points.
Please understand that coordinated talking points are all the Democrats have. Without the MSM flying cover for them they would poll in the mid 30's in every election.
The Democrats talking points mostly come from their minister of propaganda. This used to be David Axelrod - who was a true grand master of Bull Shit; it took effort to unravel his stuff. The current minister of propaganda is barely able to weave enough Bull Shit into whole cloth to get Obama through a press conference in front of true believers who don't even get to ask him utterly softball questions.
The Democrats fundamental problem is that the structural qualities of Bull Shit are rather poor and everything unravels if it is put under any stress. The Democrats can't tell the truth about what they are doing - for fear of literally being tarred and feathered.
The fact that the assortment of Morons, Pudding dippers and Honey Badgers here are able to utterly eviscerate El Presidente's every Bull Shit proclamation is evidence of how weak the Democratic party position really is. WE are more than they can handle. The entire modern progressive movement is a collection of frigging lightweights - there isn't a decent Professor Moriarty in the lot of them. In many ways Anthony Weiner is the archetypal modern progressive; a loud mouthed dick waver and nothing else.
Soros' blood money is all that is propping them up. When that foul Judenrat's time has run out, things will start going even farther downhill for the Democrats.

This would involve unpopular cuts in Social Security and Medicare, possibly depriving congressional Democrats of the cudgel they were hoping to wield against the House RepublicansÂ’ plan to replace Medicare with a system of subsidies for private coverage. A grand bargain would mean settling for smaller tax increases on the wealthy than if Obama simply let the Bush tax cuts expire at the end of 2012. And it could impede the economic recovery by ratcheting back government spending, thus reducing demand."

"Let’s be honest – neither party in this town is blameless; both have talked this problem to death without doing enough about it. That’s what drives people nuts about Washington. Too often, it’s a place more concerned with playing politics and serving special interests than resolving real problems or focusing on what you’re facing in your own lives."
He then went-on to talk about those evil wealthy people and corporations who are failing to pay their fair share because of loopholes (not those exact words, but close enough).

Canadian, actually. But your point is still valid.
Difference is, we've finally elected a solid Conservative majority up here (the word doesn't mean the same thing as down south, of course). Partly because our Prime Minister decided a while ago that he wouldn't play the media's game... but that they would play *his.* He simply doesn't care if they call him a big meanie, and his government ministers regularly refuse to grant interviews with the fifth column. Hasn't hurt the party in the least. Quite the contrary.
American politics is just a spectator sport for me. And I'm rooting for "your" team. But I just don't see any of the "electable" Republicans with half the guts it'll take to stand up to the onslaught of the 2012 election campaign. You had a real opportunity with Palin, I think, but instead of protecting her and grooming her the GOP just piled on with the Dems and Media (but I repeat myself) in trying to marginalize and ridicule her. Good plan. See where that leads next year.

K-hammer is rather a odd duck. From what I know of him he always takes the conservative view. It gives cause to pause whenever someone always supports a conservative or liberal view. His recient response for Republicans to call Obama's bluff is highly irresponsible and rather silly. The consequences of not raising the debt ceiling would be very sever. To encourge a party to play chicken with the debt ceiling is absolutly reckless and disingenous. If any thing we should be encouraging the parties to stop posturing and put country before party. The fact that the Republican party, taken over by Eric Canter lunatic fraction, refuses to clinch the deal unless there are no limiations to corporate welfare or no taxes on the uber rich in this kind of a economic setting should stur the ire of most of the middle class to such a degree that they would hammer (no pun intended) the Republicans at the polls in 2012 and 2014. Perhaps the seniors might take note but for the most part the citizens of this country are politically lobatomized.

10% and 25% income tax
0% capital gains
8.5% business consumption tax
Hold a press conference every day explaining why this type of tax reform would save the economy and generate enough income to actually start us on the road to running balanced budgets again.

When the MBM carries the JEF's water and covers his ass, it's not so much him personally, but a defense of their own philosophies, policies, and viewpoints. If the epitome of the leftist elite educated class fails, that would be psychologically catastrophic
It would mean they'd realize that no matter how educated they are, everything they know is wrong and their credentials are nothing more than a journal of how and where they killed some time

Unlike Clinton's centralized response team, the CRRT it's dispersed like swarming bees that can't be taken out with a couple easy shots to a centralized core. Plus, most of the big targets (like Rush) own a 3 hour per day window to respond to any take out attempt. Yes, the swarm can't easily get face time on the PRESSSSidential media.
