OT, but I love the Emily Miller story in the sidebar.  That will be a very informative series to follow.  I suspect navigating the red tape of legally purchasing a gun in DC will take up a LOT of column inches.

I also think that chronicling her experience in the WashTimes will mean that a lot of the red tape will actually be easier for her to cut through than your average Joe Schmoe.  So multiply how long it takes her to get a gun times... what?  Five?  Ten?  That'll give you an idea of how hard it ACTUALLY is.

It's glorious to consider, but I dunno how far things would have to go for that to happen.  Quite far, I think.  The law abiding folk in this country are getting pretty cowed.  Certainly you can bet that if the state turns its baleful eye upon you, your property and livelihood are forfeit.  We, the ones holding society together, have a lot to lose.  It makes it a lot harder for our kind to just say "f--k it" and lay down the law.

140 Some fun things to note in advance.

1) The CPD is seriously undermanned (at least 2,000 short). Rahm made a campaign promise to put an additional 1,000 officers "on the street". He has added several hundred officers to the patrol division, but he did most of it by disbanding the Tactical Response Unit and Metropolitan Strike Force - who were already working the streets. The CPD has no money for new hires, and there is a steady stream of retiring veterans.

2) In 2008, the CPD asked suburban departments for help in coping with the election night celebrations in Grant Park and elsewhere. (In my neighborhood, which is <i>not bad</i>, the announcement of the result was marked by a volley of gunfire.) The CPD however refused to indemnify the suburban departments for possible injuries or equipment damage. Some departments sent help anyway - and those chiefs got reamed by their mayors and city managers for accepting the potential liability. Several had thousands of dollars in overtime and fuel costs - which Chicago did not reimburse for.

CPD is already hinting that they will need help during the NATO/G20 summits, but again not offering to indemnify or reimburse. The suburbs are saying "Hell no!"

3) Obama could use this as a "Sistah Souljah" opportunity. There he is, trying play host to world/Euro leaders, and there's the crazy Left outside, screaming and breaking things. So he orders the National Guard to crack down on them, getting even more abuse from the crazy Left, and it makes him look moderate and responsible.

Fun times ahead.

Just sitting here thinking about it, I don't think anything is going to happen.  The CPD will probably cordon off a very large sector of the city and start breaking up crowds before they get too large.  They'll also probably be monitering FB and Twitter with the use of CPD moles. 

I have a feeling security during those events will be tighter than a frog's asshole.

Yes, this is the most likely scenario.  Chicago has been pretty good at being pro-active about this crap.

The flash mob shit was nipped in the bud really fast.  Gone.

CPD will not allow this to get to the point they have allowed in NYC.  When I see those videos of NYC, with the cops moving around a flexible orange plastic barrier, it looks like a joke to me.  There will be metal barriers.  There will be limited access to any sensitive areas.  And CPD will not allow looting and busting windows to even start, much less get out of hand like in London.

In addition, there will be no unions joining the creeps.  The unions are too well controlled - the word will go out and they will not be anywhere to be seen.

The fact that Obama will be here will probably be the biggest reason this will be a non-event.  The agitators behind the scenes (Soros?) seem to have made it clear the NYC protests don't blame Obama at all!  Have you seen one anti-Obama sign??
