Don't forget most of the NFL games are today if you're in the pick 'em league.

This company was on F&F this morning. They started a company that lets you record a video and then store it or schedule it for future delivery, Then it occurred to them that the folks who need such a service most are the men and women serving in the armed forces. So, they extended the service, for free, to active duty members of the military.
Right now they are extending the service, for free, to the rest of us, so that we can send messages of gratitude to our brave men and women in the field.
All it requires is a webcam.
I have to imagine that, at Christmas, when you're far, far from home, a video clip of someone saying 'thank you' would be most appreciated.

I guess swearing is only a sin if it's verbal or something.
I try to be patient around the holidays (including T-day and Easter) because I figure many of the clueless people are folks visiting from out of town. I guess I project a certain friendliness, too, because I tend to get a lot of people asking me questions when I'm at a grocery store or a store like Target, even when there are other people available to ask.

This whole BEST BLACK FRIDAY/CYBER MONDAY evah! bullshit and how it is an indicator that the economy is turning around is complete crap.
First, people with little money to spend would definitely navigate to the best sales of the season.
Second, there comes a point when, after scrimping and sacrificing for so long, when people say Fuck it! I'm tired of this, and they go out and charge up their cards again. (Cards that they cannot afford). A little break occurs when they simply can't stand it any longer and they can't deny their desire to give.
Third, I work part-time taking orders from home. Last year at this time of year I had an opportunity to work as many hours as I could stand, and was making an average of about $2.75 more per hour. This year, I can barely pull 10 hours per week and the pay stinks. Same job, same products. Last hour, I took three calls in the course of an hour. Luckily, I can screw around here while waiting for calls to come in.
Fourth, I went to HH Gregg (two stores), Best Buy, Walmart (2 stores), and Ulta yesterday. I had salespeople on me from the moment I walked into the store/department. At HH Gregg, I had two sales people on me at a time. At each location where a purchase was made, I walked into the store and back out with my items in less than 5 minutes.
I repeat..... I made a purchase at Walmart, items all the way back in the store, made it through the checkout line, and was back outside in about 5 minutes time.
At each location I parked less than halfway down the row from the front door.
This is unlike any Christmas I have seen.

I have a question that I posed a few months back about finally pulling the trigger on a smartphone but then my rig fell apart and I had to spend big dollar to put it back together.
So, technology being what it is, I'll ask it again.
iPhone or Droid?

I'm using an old enV, which I've really loved (the thing is a brick, it has a keyboard, and the camera interface is great even if the chip is old/slow)... but it's acting flaky so I'm switching to a smart phone next month.
I have friends on Droids who are PC people and who have complained about data connectivity (getting access to their data from their PCs to phone).
My husband has been on an iPhone for four or five years and it's been seamless. The only problem he had was at an old employer who was using some legacy klunky calendaring system, but now he's on Outlook.
I don't like the camera interface (he's now on a 4G, not the 4GS) - produces a lot of out of focus images imho (compared to my enV which rarely does) and the flash is for shit - but I will most likely go iPhone b/c we're Mac people at home.
Get a really good case.

Not as if Apple and Microsoft are really all that much better. And Blackberry has seemed to lag behind in appeal. Essentially, the companies that you really do not want having anything to do with if you can help it are the only ones making smart phones.

I was originally looking at a Droid but a co-worker bitches that his constantly freezes or re-starts itself. I also read somewhere that they're pretty vulnerable to viruses. And yeah, the whole Google thing.

Weather, maps, navigation (voice activated), calendaring, to-do list, notepad with password protection so that I could keep a gift list and be sure the kids wouldn't get in it, yellow pages, Amazon Kindle, Amazon mp3 (keep files on the cloud or d/l them), Amazon shopping app, educational stuff for the kids, star map (changes as you face diff. directions), Netflix, and games.
But I've only had it a month, so I'm just getting started! Haven't got a piano keyboard app yet...
I'd suggest poking around the Android Marketplace and iPhone app stores and see if there's stuff you might like that's on one but not the other.
I thought I might need to replace my car stereo this summer and there were some cool replacements that would only work with iPods and iPhones. The stereo got better, so I went with Android.
Posted by: Mama AJ at December 24, 2011 10:00 AM (XdlcF)
Get Pandora, which I think is on either platform. It's a free "radio" service that has "stations" that stream. For example, you can go to the Sinatra station and get him and singers like him. There's a Christmas station, an opera station, etc etc. I think for the way I listen to music, it will replace my iPod.
I like Shazaam, which is the one that 'listens' to music (say if you're at a restaurant or somewhere) and tells you want the song/artist is.
The only thing I haven't been happy with with my husband's iPhone on AT&T is a nav system. The one he downloaded is glitchy to the point of useless. I'm on Verizon with my old phone and the VZ Navigator really has saved our bacon a lot of times. I may have to break down and get a Garmin, but the Verizon phone-based system is nice because it can be used for walking etc and it talks to you. Google maps blows on the iPhone as a navigator.

Really just played around with it for places I already go to. Said "McDonald's" into the phone and it found the nearest one and gave directions.
Giggled at the coolness factor, but haven't tried to get anywhere new yet!
My husband used his new Garmin GPS in Dallas the other day and actually got traffic conditions! (We don't have real traffic 'round here...)
