— Ace It was a scam, of course. Drudge's crafty headlines make it clear, on the off chance it wasn't before.
Jesse Jackson says the budget fight is the Civil War all over again, because apparently we have $4 billion earmarked to enslave blacks. Or something.
"[T]his really is a Civil War fight,” Jackson said. “This is making the federal government dysfunctional on the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. These guys will support three wars. They’ll support tax dodgers. They’ll support the wealthiest Americans getting tax breaks. They want to cut into education and health care. This is an ideological battle.”Jackson said those trying to shut down the federal government are doing so to make an “ideological-religious point.”
“This is a Civil War fight,” he said. “I think Time magazine has it right. This is the 150th anniversary of the 1861 Civil War. Now those are determined to shut the federal government down to make their point — their ideological-religious point.”
He repeats "Civil War fight" twice in case you missed it the first time.
Tally: 2 war, 1 fight, enslavement 1
Eleanor Holmes Norton says the proposed budget cuts are like "bombing innocent civilians."
“We are absolutely outraged. This is the functional equivalent of bombing innocent civilians,” she said.“It’s time that the District of Columbia told the Congress to go straight to hell,” Norton continued...
Tally: War 2, fight 1, enslavement 1, bombing 1, war crimes 1, straight to hell 1
Granny Rictus McBotoxImplants says it's a "war on women."
“There is actually a war on women,” the California Democrat said...“We have to create a drumbeat across America.”
Tally: War 3, fight 1, enslavement 1, bombing 1, war crimes 1, straight to hell 1, drumbeat (for war) 1
A lefty FaceBook campaign to dump trash on Boehner's house.
Tally: War 3, fight 1, enslavement 1, bombing 1, war crimes 1, straight to hell 1, drumbeat (for war) 1, campaign for malicious vandalism 1
Dingy Harry Reid says the GOP wants women to get cancer.
"Republicans want to shut down the government because they think there's nothing more important than keeping women from getting cancer screenings. This is indefensible and everyone should be outraged," Reid said on the Senate floor.
Tally: War 3, fight 1, bombing 1, enslavement 1, war crimes 1, straight to hell 1, drumbeat (for war) 1, campaign for malicious vandalism 1, gender-discriminating bioterrorism 1
Dingy Harry also says this is throwing women under the bus.
Reid, D-Nev., said it is "shameful" that Republicans are trying to move "an extreme social agenda" that will "throw women under a bus even if it means it will shut down the government."
Tally: War 3, fight 1, bombing 1, enslavement 1, war crimes 1, straight to hell 1, drumbeat (for war) 1, campaign for malicious vandalism 1, gender-discriminating bioterrorism 1, gender-targeted vehicular manslaughter 1
Louise Slaughter says GOP freshmen were elected to "kill women."
In Â’94 people were elected simply to come here to kill the National Endowment for the Arts. Now theyÂ’re here to kill women.
Tally: War 3, fight 1, bombing 1, enslavement 1, war crimes 1, straight to hell 1, drumbeat (for war) 1, campaign for malicious vandalism 1, gender-discriminating bioterrorism 1, gender-targeted vehicular manslaughter 1, government conspiracy to commit serial killings of women 1
Okay, now I'm just being sort of silly because I'm bored. And that's just today.
But whatever you do: Don't use heated rhetoric that conjures images of war and might inspire violence!
On the other hand, Obama merely calls the budget fight -- which most other people would call his "job duties" -- a "distraction."
A "distraction"? His actual job duties are a "distraction" to him? A distraction from what?
Why, scenic Williamsburg, of course!
Thanks to lacyunderalls for pointing out the Louise Slaughter claim, which really buttons it all up.

In fairness, the Democrats have no idea what was in the bills they passed from 2008-2010, so who knows what kinds of crap we are currently funding?

Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) said today that the new Republicans elected to the House of Representatives last November came to Congress "to kill women." She also likened Republican efforts to prohibit federal funding of abortion except in cases of rape, incest or where the life of the mother is endangered to actions taken by Nazis.

As best I can tell, there's two reasons: one political, and one ideological.
The ideological one came first, "Abortions BAD!" the political one came second- once it had been latched on to as a "sticking point" by the media, anything other than sticking to their guns would look like capitulation. They've received a lot of heat from their constituents (us) over such capitulations already this year- I doubt if they're in any hurry to take any more.
My answer is to take that exact amount of funding, and offer an alternative whereby NEA, Dept Ed, ect. have their budgets reduced (or eliminated) by amounts designed to offset PP funding. Then you can ask, "So which sacred cow will it be?"

I realized a few weeks ago why "57 states" has sounded so familiar for so long. There are 57 member states in the Organization of the Islamic Conference, which has a permanent delegation to the UN, and which "...attempts to be the collective voice of the Muslim world (Ummah)" (Wikipedia).
Perhaps the 57 states debacle was simply Obama's first inclination toward showcasing his blatant dhimmi-tude.

Why don't the Republicans propose that Planned Parenthood be split into two independent parts -- one for women's health care and family planning, apart from abortions, and another for abortions only. Then have the government only fund the first part and codify that the second part will never ever receive federal money. That should be fine with the dems. We have compassion, we just don't want to fund abortion mills.

I'm sure the Dems would accept that if they had to because they are the masters of money laundering. They'd easily find a way to funnel money to the abortion side of the house.
Stripping the moral factor out of the equation, why exactly should my tax dollars be used for an elective procedure? Don't tell me that Planned Parenthood is performing thousands of medically necessary abortions. Real doctors do the medically necessary ones, not abortion mill doctors.
It's a legal procedure but 95% of them aren't necessary, so that 95% should be paying for it themselves.

From Big Government:
Planned Parenthood CEO's Mammogram Claims Are False
In the wake of undercover evidence revealing Planned ParenthoodÂ’s abusive and illegal activity, the AmericaÂ’s biggest abortion business unrolled a massive PR campaign to defend its $363-million-a-year taxpayer subsidies.
[ . . . ]
Planned Parenthood has been insisting that they provide invaluable health services to “millions” of America women.
[ . . . ]
Yet this is blatantly false.
We got a tip from former Planned Parenthood director, Abby Johnson, that Planned Parenthood does not provide any mammogram services. Just to be sure, our investigative team called up 30 Planned Parenthood clinics in many major metropolitan areas. Every single one of the clinics told our actor that no, they do not provide mammograms. “We don’t provide those services whatsoever,” one staffer in Arizona said. Another in Wisconsin remarked, “We are just a surgical center, we don’t really do health services.” In Overland Park, KS, at Planned Parenthood’s “Comprehensive Health Center,” they said, “We don’t actually have a, um, mammogram machine, at our clinics.”
We called 27 states total. In none of those states does Planned Parenthood provide mammograms.

Because that would be completely ineffectual.
Let's say you have a company that has two major functions. Right now, your company brings in X amount of funding from the government that can be spent on either function, Y amount of funding from "private donations," and Z amount of funding from services sold. Now, the government changes things, and says your "X" funding can only be used on one of your two functions. Don't you just take all the money from Y and Z and put that towards the second function?
You either have to defund it completely, or ignore it. Funding "only part of it" is the same as funding all of it.

How is this an issue of civility, Ace? Jesse Jackson uses interesting parallels to make his point, drawing upon an anniversary of a major event. And his analogy, though perhaps not spot on, has some merit.
For you to say otherwise is the Bataan Death March all over again.

More:
This is only the latest in Planned Parenthood’s abusive and deceptive activity. Planned Parenthood claims to provide “pregnancy options” to women, yet over 97% of their services to pregnant women are abortions. The corporation aborts 332,278 unborn boys and girls each year, gives false medical information and manipulative counseling to women, covers up the sexual abuse of young girls, and cooperates with the sexual trafficking and commercial exploitation of children.

But country fried steak also sounds great...with the same trimmings as fried chicken, maybe brown gravy and cob corn grilled...or pork steak schnitzel, with carmelized onions and mushrooms and some dilled carrots, peas, n taters...
