Claim: Christie Reconsidering Entering Presidential Race, Will Decide in Days
— Ace

What can I tell you. This is what Newsmax says.

I doubt it myself. But... there is an opening.

A big, round opening.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is reconsidering his decision not to enter the 2012 presidential race — and he says he will let top Republican donors know within days about his plans, Newsmax has learned.

During the past few weeks, several leading Republican donors and fundraisers have been urging the popular Republican governor to reconsider his decision not to run and to enter the GOP primary.

These Christie supporters note that significant GOP support has remained on the sidelines of the primary fight. Many leading fundraisers have yet to commit to any current primary contender, including frontrunners Rick Perry and Mitt Romney.

Newsmax has learned that the effort to draft Christie culminated in a hush-hush powwow held in the past week with Christie and several notable Republican billionaires.

A source familiar with the meeting suggested that Christie seemed inclined to enter the race but said he needed more time.

Christie promised to make a final decision "within two weeks," the source said.

Thanks to Dr. Spank.

He will try to "waiver" his way out of it and the Democrats will take him to court for violating separation of powers or some other (likely valid) reason arguing that a President cannot defy so broadly existing laws duly enacted by a Congress and a President. The waiver strategy won't work. It's a gimmick. The heat he'll feel for that will send him running for cover. When Obamacare became law, it came to stay. That day our nation slit its wrists.

Not since the days of William Howard "Maximum Displacement" Taft have we had the prospect of such a man of such stature at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

The exisiting Republican field has made itself look pretty marginal. Whatever drawbacks Christie might have appear smaller than any of their drawbacks at this point. Of course, nobody has seen him as a threat before now.

But, even if worst comes to worst, any Republican becoming President is going to be dealing with a conservative Republican House and Senate and a conservative national mood. This will tend to focus their attention where it needs to be focused. Even Romney, for example, shape shifting squish that he is, will have to get his mind right.  He will squish into the correct conformation for our purposes.

I don't mean to imply that I see an R President in '12 as a done deal by any means. Gentlemen let's not start sucking each other's etc. etc.

Regardless of those thoughts, I would throw in with Christie in a second.  Perry cannot convince anybody of the reasons why we need a conservative limited government approach.   And I beleive Mitt is a big government RINO.

At least with Christie, you know you would get a balsy no-nonsense head on fight against entitlement structural deficits.  His fiscal con kung fu and straight talk is good enough for me.

Posted by: California Red at September 23, 2011 06:59 PM (DXTKe) I hate the purity wars, but it isn't like he's weak on one or two issues, there are gaps or red flags on almost everything but money. Christie isn't a real conservative, I'm not liking his positions on gun control just as I had concerns over Giuliani's gun control positions.

I like Christie for the same reason I liked Perry, spunk and balls.  He would be able to take Obama to the preverbial woodshed in a debate.

However, adding Christie to the list just makes that list longer not necessarily better and certainly doesn't make it any easier to pick one of them from the herd.
