Climate Czarina Carol Browner Leaving WH
— Dave in Texas

Maybe she didn't get any phone calls from Obama either. Or was that just the cabinet heads?

She's had her fingers in the negotiations for new auto emission standards, was a player in the GM and Chrysler theft bailouts, but she couldn't get Cap and Tax across the goal line. In the current political climate (see what I did there?), that's even less likely, so she's off to chase the next pretty colored balloon.

Those polls are fucked, for one thing they are polling adults now and not registered voters which always gives the sitting president hight numbers.

The ones that have him over 50% are polling 10% more dems than repubs, 11% more obama voters than McCain voters and 20% of the polls are union households. Only 12% of households in the us are union.

The ones that have him under 50% are only polling 7% more dems that repubs. If someone did a poll with a 35/36 split and polled registered voters you would find him around 42%

Gallup has the dem/repub split right now at 35/36.

75 I would guess that the poll bump is due to natural fluctuations, especially with a fellating MFM putting up as many Potemkin Villages as possible. There has been a perception that the economy is doing better, again more to up and down fluctations than to long term improvements

You heard from the MFM that this past Christmas season was a return to the shop till you drop blowout for the retailers. It was mild and under expectations. Initial unemployment claims were dropping but went back up in January, which wasn't trumpeted of course since they did a Jim Cramer on the laughable ADP report.

A lot of people were holding off purchases and paying down debts. I think the improvement came from replacement purchases by people whose debts were paid down, not from new purchases coming from a feeling of prosperity.

Food prices are going up, fuel prices are going up, but pay isn't going up because we're a very long way from 5 percent unemployment again, and if anyone thinks their home values are returning to 2006 levels, they're in for a nasty whiplash
