Confirmed: Stagflation™ on the way
— Purple Avenger

Wholesale prices are heading up.

...Shoes, clothes, tires, plastics and other products all cost more at the wholesale level last month, putting pressure on businesses to pass the increases along to their customers...

...Drug prices rose 1.4 percent, the most in almost three years. Prices rose for products throughout the economy...

See, its just "pressure" at the moment, kinda like a zit starting to form. Being patriotic and all, those businesses will of course try to resist that pressure as long as possible, take profit hits, maybe even run losses or go bankrupt as part of their national obligation, right? They just need to cowboy up and embrace the vise like squeeze of higher taxes and higher costs. This is the new normal.

1 I just was wondering if we'd see stagflation. Anyone who's fortunate to be too young to remember -- get ready, it gets worse.

Ben Bernanke = Rudolf Von Havenstein, mad money printer of the Weimar Republic. He monetized a lot of German debt in WWI. They thought he was a genius, calling him "der Geld Marschall" (money field marshall), sort of like they called Greenspan the Maestro and now sing Helicopter Ben's praises. He was great until the hyperinflation hit.

31 This is why I sold my restaurant in December 2009. In the middle of the deepest recession the state of NC raised sales tax by 1% which took about $1,000 out of my pocket, then they decided raise the liquor prices (in NC we have something called ABC stores, liquor is sold by the state at only those stores) 20%. I got an offer to buy my place for about what I paid for it 4 years earlier. So, for the first time in 17 years I no longer own my own restaurant. (also owned one in Chicago from 1992-2006)

Not to mention the fact that "global warming" destroyed produce crops so vegetables will now cost more than an ounce of gold.

Well, the cure for inflation is to raise interest rates, like the prime rate. That what Uncle Paul Volker taught us that one in the '70's.

Oops!  That huge debt overhang with that monster debt service will just get a lot bigger if the prime goes up.

I wonder if Barry O!  thought of that? Naaaaaah.

when I saw those charts they reminded me of when I think his name was geoff was putting up charts here and before that it was someone else.

I sent it to my friends and posted it for you guys and then went back to read the comments.  Geez, they are saying the charts might not be accurate as the data comes from you know who and might be manipulated to make it look better.

Can't remember which clever pundit said, "So the future is...railroads."

The liberals so desperately want us to be Europe.  If they were smart, they'd be trying to build a Maginot Line for protection against Texas.

97 I'm so glad someone else is thinking about this.  I just sent all my peeps the link to this article on Zero Hedge.  I'm starting to think they are all visual learners so thankfully, someone provided the visuals.  LINK

Excellent Link. Scary as hell though. And it does just reinforces my beliefs that I'm taking the right steps personally. Thanks for the link.

Canada's also going to suck when the crap hits the fan. I'm already planning on leaving both countries and getting citizenship elsewhere.

I'm not thrilled about giving up US citizenship, but I can't predict how confiscatory the US government will get, even with Americans living abroad. I believe I'm safest to sever all ties now and have papers showing I'm not American when the government gets really grabby. They can keep (and have already spent) what I've already paid into Social Security.

We live in interesting times. Sadly. Good night everyone.

Longer than that.  I was just thinking, how many years is it going to take to make up for just two years of Obama-Pelosi dafucits  (Anybody remember the dahfucit awareness ribbon)?  I'm willing to bet it'll take longer than 20 years.

I really wish the electorate would develop a memory so that they could tell themselves no, anything is not better than Republicans.

125 Got into a brief argument with a FOAF about inflation, they said it wasn't inflation, things were just getting more expensive. Also, that sales tax would go up because of it.

I said, because people spend the same amount of money on less stuff.

They said, not they buy the same amount of stuff with more money.

I said, where does this money come from?

She said, "I don't know."

I said, "Exactly. And nobody else does either, because there's no more money."

And she said "Oh, there's always more money somewhere."

I stopped because any further and I would have been arrested for felony battery.

Zerohedge has been on this story since B4 Xmas.   CPI is crap.  Last year USD on FX lost 3%.

Reported as growth.

Somewhere along 2005 Office of Truth added home prices to CPI.  Well they've been diving, for a while.  Last year took a full point off CPI was 1.9% shoulda been 3%.

Reported as growth.

Back-of-the-envelope calc yields 6% inflation last year.

China has had 5% inflation of food stuffs-in the last 10 days!  Odd, they just reported inflation of 4.9% short of expected 5.4%.

Our Office of Truth isn't quite in their league but we persist.

139 So, ... when Gov. Palin told us this was going to happen and the smartest people in the room said she was stupid .... ?

What I don't understand is how she could have been right and a blogger could have been wrong??  I didn't think bloggers were ever wrong.  I thought they could predict  determine the future?    I mean they make these pronouncements about what will be and what will not be and who is and who is not electable.

I'm so disillusioned.  I mean, what can we do?  Gov. Chistie says he knows how to fix it, but he's not going to step up and actually do anything about it.  The bag man for Eli Lilley also says he's knows how to fix it.   But he won't say that he's willing to step up and actually try.

Palin also says she knows how to fix it and is willing to try; but the bloggers say she's unelectable.   So, she's out.

So let it be blogged; so let it be done.

The private sector is weeding out mediocrity, retaining and hiring only the best and the brightest, who will give them the biggest bangs for their bucks.

It's gotten to be that the only jobs left for mediocre people are President Of The United States,  Secretary Of State and Attorney General.

Or, they are keeping people who are incompetent but handicapped to avoid a lawsuit, or keeping someone who is related to the VP and whose citizenship they have sponsored, the contract for that which probably includes a can't fire timeline that meant others had to get laid off instead.

Yes I'm still pissed about it.
