— Dave in Texas I'm beginning to think Harry Reid is running out of scary political rhetoric.
Well everyone understands the gravity of the situation now. Cherry blossoms are about to be furloughed on Monday.
Funny, whenever I think of AndrewR's poem I think of Harry Reid. And then I don't think I really feel like eating dinner anymore.

(1) Both sides would have to completely agree
(2) The deal would have to survive a House Conference meeting
(3) It would not be voted-upon until later this weekend so they'd have to pass a CR tonight
(4) As Majority Whip, McCarthy would have to retain those 218 votes

That got me to thinking. PP itself claims to do 330,000 abortions a year. According to Google, the average cost of an abortion is about $500 (actually seems low to me). That means that PP eats a cool $165M a year doing abortions. Now either they have the single greatest private fundraiser in the history of the western world or they, and Harry, are full of crap. Hmmmm. I wonder which?

GOP and Democratic sources on and off Capitol Hill tell National Journal that the outline of the deal is as follows: up to $39 billion in cuts from the 2010 budget, $514 billion in spending for the defense budget covering the remainder of this fiscal year, a GOP agreement to abandon controversial policy riders dealing with Planned Parenthood and the EPA, and an agreement to pass a “bridge” continuing resolution late Friday night to keep the government operating while the deal is written in bill form

Oy, what a scene at work today--the bosses having to call every employee who wasn't on shift and tell them whether they were excepted or non-excepted from the furlough, sorting out whether contractors' companies would consider them essential. What a mess. But we're ready to go, now. The machinery's already in place--the Republicans might as well stand back and let the dems hang themselves with a shutdown. If the dems wanted a budget on their terms so bad, they could have rammed in through last year when they were supposed to.

The American people are watching and seeing who has courage and who doesn't and they are going to vote accordingly. I don't think these guys think people are serious about voting them out. They think people are stupid and will put up with sand being kicked in their faces over and over again. I think the budgeteers were such a success people will follow the model. Vote out the old bring in the new budgeteer until the Congress and the Senate are full of majority budgeteers.

Legislation co-sponsored by Tennessee GOP Sen. Lamar Alexander has Tea Party and other conservative leaders crying foul because it backs away from their goal of bringing added congressional accountability to President ObamaÂ’s czars, now 37 in number.
The bill, S 670, enjoys bipartisan support from Democrats such as Sen. Charles Schumer of New York, fellow Republicans such as Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine and Independent Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut.
This bill cuts out Senate confirmation on a great big pile of Czars.
And the hits just keep on a comin'.

Really, Nevada? As weak a candidate as Sharron Angle was, you honestly picked Dingy Harry over her?
I remember listening to Beck the day after the elections, and in between the hilarious gloating, Beck was surprised that Reid won by as much as he did. Pat Gray said it was because he was a Mormon, even if he was a bad one, and that Mormons in Nevada probably voted for him just because of that. He and Beck debated that for a while.
I'm interested in that part of Beck's personality. I'm not close friends with any Latter-Day Saints, but I enjoy listening to him and Pat debate stuff like that because I know Mormons can be very protective of their faith, just like everyone else.

Rep. Jeb Hensarling, top House GOP leader, just said a few minutes ago that there is no budget deal to avert a government shutdown.
But a press release was just posted on the website of Sen. Mike Johanns, R-Neb., saying that there is agreement between the House and Senate to pass a three-day budget that would avert a government shutdown.
There's still no official word from the White House or a congressional negotiator about the state of play. The federal government will close its doors at midnight if a deal on a budget is not reached.
The text of Johanns' news release is posted after the jump.
WASHINGTON -- Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) issued the following statement regarding the three-day budget agreement reached by bipartisan negotiators in the Senate and House of Representatives that prevents a shutdown of the federal government:
The American people sent us to Washington to lead our government back onto a path of fiscal sustainability, not grind it to a halt. I'm pleased both sides of the aisle were able to reach an agreement and avoid a government shutdown. I hope the same spirit is applied through next week as we debate the continued funding of our government.
We mustn't lose sight of the fact that we were faced with the prospect of a shutdown principally because no budget was passed out of Congress or ever considered on the Senate floor throughout all of last year, and we are now picking up the pieces. We are here to work together to solve our country's problems, and negotiators must do better than the performance this week. In the near future we are going to have to make tough decisions to address major problems, which will entail confronting bloated deficits and entitlement reform. I will continue to urge my colleagues to come together to develop a clear, comprehensive approach to bringing our country back from the brink of a financial crisis."

You do understand we weren't going to get everything we wanted on this budget, right? That we only control the House and not the Senate or White House?
We're passing *last year's budget*. Technically we're getting this instead of a budget from Obama and a Dem-controlled House and Senate.
I'd love to get a trillion dollars in cuts too but that's not realistic. Whatever the actual deal is, it doesn't matter because the win is that the budget is a big issue now and that will continue into 2012. That's good for us if we ever want to make the meaningful changes we need to make.

I agree. The issue should be spending but by making abortion the key part, they gave the Dems one of their favorite talking points.
Posted by: robviously at April 08, 2011 05:55 PM (pprkn)
I don't like planned parenthood anymore than anyone else but you aren't going to get rid of them through the budget unless we have the senate and the whitehouse. They have too big a lobby and the abortion industry donates too much to dems. Plus dems like to kill the babies of poor people.
The way to get rid of them is an audit followed by congressional hearings that show they are a scam operataion and basically an abortion mill.
In other words you need to out them for the shady fuckers they are and put that in front of the American people.

That's the problem with liberal womynz. They are OK until they say something.

Except when those liberal womyns are supposed to be conservative Republicans.
Noem has the longest list of violations, including 20 speeding tickets, three stop sign violations, two seat belt violations, and no driver's license. Noem also has six court notices for failure to appear and two arrest warrants.
Noem had warrants issued for her arrest on two occasions when she failed to pay fines.
No wonder she fit right in so quickly.

A lot of things that have been funded "for a long time" have got to be re-examined and cut. This is the new reality . We simply CANNOT afford to spend the money when we are running a 1.6 TRILLION dollar deficit.
This reality really hasn't hit most people, but it will be the underlying cause for rising inflation and the general impoverishment of most of the people in this country.
Because of this immense deficit, and those in the years to come if this idiocy isn't stopped, all our savings, investments, the value of our homes, EVERYTHING, will be ruined.
'Cause Planned Parenthood and the AARP didn't get their subsidy.
Idiots.
This message has to be hammered home again and again. The Democrats have to be portrayed as what they are, the enemies of the Middle Class and every American that is trying to make a decent life for themselves.

Interesting plan: break down the family and encourage indiscriminant sex, provide abortions using federal tax dollars, foster addiction to random indiscriminant sex to grow business, use federal tax dollars and other money generated to elect democrats who will continue to fund abortion to familyless indiscriminant sex lovers. Repeat.
1. Tear down culture
2. Provide abortions
3. Profit!!!

Well, I guess if you don't give a shit about paying fines for your own stupidity until they issue arrest warrants for you, maybe we shouldn't expect her to give a shit about the nation's debt.

Wonder how many of us Morons® they'd take on for a party cruise? That house is the perfect place to spend the zombie apocalypse. I'm torn between favorite lines, though. "If we'd had baloney, we'd have won the Civil War" is right up there with that crack about the burlap sack.
Oooooo, LTC West is on Greta.
