David Frum, Building The Conservative Party One Hit Piece At A Time

Look, I know he despises Sarah Palin.

I can guess he hates Herman Cain.

I have no doubts that he is disgusted by Donald Trump.

It is obvious he thinks Mike Huckabee is uncultured and beneath him.

If he's said a kind word about Romney, I don't know about it.*

And of course even the suspected RINO Tim Pawlenty is now the subject of a full-spectrum full-page Two Minute Hate.

So who exactly does David Frum have in mind for the presidency?

The only two answers I can imagine are:

1, Barack Obama

2, David Frum

And I hate to be uncouth about this and disappoint him, but David Frum actually has a serious birth certificate issue going on, so honestly, who the hell does this nitwit actually like?

I guess it's option 1 -- For great conservatism.

Some of you are probably asking, "So what? Why should we care? Why do you even bother noting his predictable every-ten-minutes snits?"

Well I don't care. But he is very loud. He's a famewhore.

I know "Do not feed the trolls" but he is an especially vigorous and attention-seeking troll.

* Ah, I See Now: In the top left corner, he announces the GOP's choice is Romney or Obama.

Well, okay then, at least David Frum has found one single person in the whole conservative movement he doesn't despise with sneering disgust.

Honestly, I am kind of shocked that David Frum has something kind to say about any conservative, besides non-conservatives like Meghan McCain and Kathleen Parker.

So he's on Team Romney. At least that's some progress, for Frum. At least he can actually name a nominee that wouldn't cause him to renounce the American citizenship he actually doesn't have (he remains a ~~proud Canadian~~ Canadian).

But... I have a feeling that Mitt Romney is not exactly psyched to have the uncoveted David Frum endorsement.

Hm. Maybe he's smart. Maybe he's actually on Team Pawlenty, too.

Mitt just disgusts him the least for the moment, but as the primary season goes on, odds are he'll fall further and further out of favor by trying to do something crazy, like courting Republican voters to win the Republican nomination, instead of aiming to gain the nod of the heretofore unknown Frumican (or is it Frumocrat?) What is destructive about wanting to be taxed less? About opposing a government regulation of health care that creates new bureaucracies and taxes and doesn't really solve anything? This is a truly grassroots movement that wants to diminish the power of government in the lives of average people -- nothing nihilistic about it. More deregulation, more tax cuts for upper-income earners, and while we're at it, cut spending without any real plan as to the long-term impact. Regulation is choking us -- choking energy production, choking industry, choking the productivity of state after state; you need only look to California, the most heavily regulated and, not coincidentally, most dysfunctional state in the union, for a lesson in why most deregulation is positive and creative. As for spending cuts, the long-term impact is to release money from government to the people, who will use it as they see fit, which is the proper role of both government and the people. In 2008, I sent an angry email to Frum... he sent me back a nice response saying Mitt Romney was his second choice after John McCain. So he has been a fan for a while. Frum was actually quite polite.

I thought it was cool he answered me directly. Seems like a nice enough guy.

And since when don't conservatives bash each other? That's is all I hear from Palin people, how awful everyone else is. In fact I don't think there are any real Republicans, except for Sarah, of course. We are a party of RINOs, accept for them, and Sarah of course.

Bashing our own candidates so they can't win a General election seems a long held conservative tradition. Even a Canadian can pick up on how to do it.

So, against so much competition, Prokofiev takes his perpetually hurt feeling marbles and returns to the USSR to complete his life's career in the State Communist Music Committee he'd originally escaped, working alongside Shostakovich, Tcherepnin, Kabalevsky, and so many others, being directed into group think for the children by a NON-musician who literally prosecuted/imprisoned any interesting or original thought or expression. That's Frum's Ideal.

The point of the gentry is the exercise of finesse, polite mannerisms that maintain the elite class as "above it all" or above the fray of commoners, the elite being too good to get involved in actual work or responsibility themselves. Wear the "better than you" facade with pride. Act "compassionately" so long as such costs you nothing and allows you to take more ground for yourself. Use the sweet tone of voice with a smile, and play the Pied Piper leading rats and children. Or sing along with Nanny Mary Poppins, Just a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down in the most delightful way.

It isn't as if every authoritarian plays the maniac raging into microphones. Hitler was the singular NAZI FÃ¼hrer anomaly. There are as many contemptuous and mocking "smiles" that sneer as there are warm and friendly smiles. And a single person can use the entire repertoire of grins. Like so many, Frum wields his fine elitist stylistic mannerisms in public and private in order to either persuade or browbeat subservience from his "lessers" in society.

I'm reminded of Michael Savage taken in by the likes of Donald Trump because Trump was publicly nice to Savage and paid him a compliment. As politics go, "Vanity, vanity, all is vanity."
