Declaring Victory
Video of Press Conference Now Available

— Ace

Because I goofed on that story I haven't gotten to gloat.

Ann Althouse is gloating more than me.

This is fun too:

Can we please, please, please not try to be the smartest ones in the room just this one time and play the game that Republicans always play. Let's declare victory now and talk about pushing Prosser off the stage. This is the message.

Kloppenburg won an election she should never have won. What a humiliation for the Tea Party and their media toads.

This is a total Wisonsin smackdown of Scott Walker

Prosser should really understand it is time to leave the stage.

Prosser sticking around is just hurting Wisconsin.

There is serious businesss to conduct and Prosser is just gumming up the works by trying to challenge this.

From Dan Riehl.

Oh: A lot of people have pointed out: This officially means Wisconsin is a purple state. It might even be reddish.

Even if it had been an even split -- what the hell? We heard for weeks about how outraged the left was, how animated.

Because I still get my news, even second-hand, from the media, I got the impression the left was roaring back.

But they never bothered to report how animated the right still was, huh? They sort of wishcasted that all away, huh?

So, at the end of the day, in an election the left poured money and energy in to, and had the media faithfully singing from their hymnals... we won.

In Wisconsin.

I don't know -- I think based upon this Wisconsin is officially "Lean GOP" in November.

The Presser: Good stuff, plus other gloating.

More Wisconsin Implications: Barack Obama can safely lose a lot of the swing states (and red states) he won in 2008 and still win in 2012, as long as he keeps the Democratic core, including Pennsylvania, the midwest (excluding Ohio), and Colorado.

But I'm not sure there's any likely way he can win without Wisconsin.

They probably had another 1000 or so standby ballots waiting to be found in bags and trunks and other "secure" places to pull this one out if they had too.

I love the frontloading against an obvious recount and possible challenge. I can hear a grinding transmission trying an unclutched narrative change from "repudiation" to "not indicative of anything really" like a 15 yo learning how to drive a stick.

i like how Michael Moore misremembers history. Bush didn't declare victory. The networks essentially declared victory for Gore by giving him Florida.

Also, can we stop counting on the AP for elections?

I mean if it's a blowout, then fine, but any election within 5 percent probably shouldn't be called by the AP anymore

73 Something to know and watch.
Wisconsin recount procedures

Any candidate voted for at any election may request a recount. The candidate must file a verified petition with the clerk or body with whom nomination papers are to be filed for that office. The petition should be filed not earlier than the time of completion of the canvass and not later than 5:00 p.m. on the third business day following the determination of the results of the election.  The petition must specify each ward or municipality in which a recount is desired. An opposing candidate or any voter or other interested party may similarly file a petition for a recount in any or all of the remaining wards or municipalities.

If the difference between the votes cast for the leading candidate and those cast for the petitioner is not more than 0.5% of the total votes if more than 1,000 votes are cast, the petitioner is not required to pay a fee. Otherwise, the petitioner must pay the calculated or estimated fee at the time of filing.

Let's see that union money, UP FRONT, bitch!

143 I'm trying to think about which victory felt better, this one or Scott Brown's.  (I know some of you are pissed at Brown now -- I'm not, especially because his excellent political instincts have positioned him to romp to reelection in MASSACHUSETTS of all places -- but try to remember how January 19th, 2010 actually felt as it happened.)

On the one hand, we had a Republican winning a miraculous come-from-behind victory to take Ted Kennedy's seat in one of the bluest states in the nation, just in time to stop (or so we thought) Obamacare.

On the other hand, we had this deeply symbolic vote that pretty much everyone on the ground (myself included) had thought was lost, and we DID lose...or so we thought.  Then we miraculously have it handed back to us in a legit, unquestionable way AFTER the smug gloating by Kloppenburg and her asshole union friends and national liberal intelligentsia.

Which feels better? (Let's assume that Milwaukee doesn't suddenly find 10,000 Kloppenburg votes.)  I guess it still has to be Brown, but it's surprisingly close.  Because we NEVER win these sorts of "come from behind after recounting the votes" races.  EVER.

Then, Nancy Pelosi will forget that she has no authority for this sort of thing anymore and threaten an investigation. Obama will then go on TV, say that Tea Partiers acted stupidly, and call for a beer summit between Prosser and Kloppy. 198 Cars, whole houses and even severed feet in shoes:

I find a friggin foot and someone is going to have to lock me up in a rubber room for a few days.

25 years ago a friend of mine, a police officer with the toughest beat in town, a multiple black belt, was out fishing in a small boat offshore. He and his buddy didn't return and their boat was found capsized, but their bodies were nowhere to be found.

A while later, a fisherman off the coast of Georgia pulled in a shark. In the shark's belly was Tom's sneaker. And his foot.

Rio school massacre:

Beltrami described the letter as “the words of a person who no longer believes in anything, full of sentences that made no sense and references to Islamic fundamentalism.”

231 This election of a SC justice has had more drama in it than any Super Bowl or World series Game.  It has had more political twists and turns than any election I have ever seen including the Bush/Gore hanging chads election of 2000.  It shows a weaking of the left.
They pulled out all the stops but couldn't hang onto a state as it swung to the left.  Republicans should be emboldened.  The Tea Party should be emboldened and hold rino's feet to the fire.  The Wisconson legislature should open immediated investigations into voting irregularities.  Voter fraud should be treated to big dose of justice.  The Tea Party and conservatives should be growing a third nut right now because we are the ones that will return the greatest, freeist, most innovative country in the history of the world to its senses.

Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen asked the state Supreme Court to throw out a lower court case where a judgeÂ’s order bars enforcement of a law limiting public workersÂ’ ability to engage in collective bargaining.

Van Hollen filed his petition with the state’s high court today, saying he is not appealing the order issued by Dane County Circuit Court Judge Maryann Sumi on March 18. He is instead asking the top court, behalf of Mike Huebsch, the secretary of the state’s Department of Administration, to “take jurisdiction” over the matter and dismiss it.

With this win by Prosser, and if the SC negates that moonbat judge's RO, unions will go more batshit crazy than usual.   Look for some bad shit to go down in WI.

I was amazed during the last election cycle listening to Chris Matthews castigating PA Democrats for not spreading more "walking around money" in Philly and hurting Sestak. They don't think there's anything wrong with bribing inner city minorities to vote for them, its just how they do business. Kennedy never would have beaten Nixon without the Chicago machine and the money they spread around. That's not conjecture, it's historical fact and even the Dems don't deny it. 280 More Wisconsin Implications: Barack Obama can safely lose a lot of the swing states (and red states) he won in 2008 and still win in 2012, as long as he keeps the Democratic core, including Pennsylvania, the midwest (excluding Ohio), and Colorado. But I'm not sure there's any likely way he can win without Wisconsin. -ACE Ace, correct yourself- THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL HE WINS WITHOUT WISCONSIN. Thanks to the shift of the south to the Republicans in the last 25 years, there isn't a single election one can point at aknowledging that shift showing Obama winning without carrying Wisconsin. He has to carry it. Because of the political makeup of states like OH,NC,IN,VA,FL and even NH and MI (thanks to that loss of 250,000 Detroit residents, so that big fraud is no longer available), a Republican win in Wisconsin already assumes Republican wins in the "Bush00/Obama08" states.

See, I don't agree. Maybe I'm cynical living most of my life in their backyard but I think they play a different game than us on everything. I'm not naive and I don't think Republicans are pure as the driven snow but when Republicans do something outside the boundaries it's an anomaly. When Dems do it it's pretty much business as usual. Look at the thug tactics they have been employing in WI last couple months. Dem politicians literally running away rather than doing their elected jobs, mobs taking over the State House, death threats, stalking, the whole nine yards. The media gave it all a collective yawn and yet any one of those tactics done by a Republican would have been front page news for weeks. The left has programed the public to use a different level of expectation for them and for the most part we let them get away with it. It takes a breaking point for us to push back. As I said earlier, we've clearly hit one.

The difference is that our corrupt guys have some hint of patriotism left over from an idyllic childhood or something, and they learned that America is noble and a beacon and grew up with fireworks and baseball and apple pie.  So if it enriches them and hurts America, they're more likely to refrain.

Their corrupt guys don't have any patriotism left over, because it's been squelched by the leftist teachings that America is unfair and racist and sexist and blah blah.  So if it enriches them and hurts America, so much the better.

360 The Scott Brown victory was about an exceptional candidate beating a weak candidate which allowed a win in a place where a Republican is never expected to. This win is 10 times better for us. It was party + ideology of one side versus party + ideology of the other side. Scandals, debate, quality of candidate were non factors. Just raw power vs. raw power. Wisconsin might not be a "red" state yet but it's getting there and that has enormous implications for politics in this country.

The Dems, thinking the final tallies were in from Republican strongholds,  then found JUST enough votes for Kloppendouche to win. That would explain why she was so confident as to declare victory with just a 200 vote margin; she'd been told the fix was in. Surprise, next day, oh my goodness, we forgot an entire town! No vote fraud necessary on the Republican side, simply add in the validly cast votes and close the margin of fraud! Brilliant! Rove must have been in the state.

I believe it was commenter Pogo who was commenting on "Franken Units" the other night.

Each unit is 500 previously uncounted votes for the trailing Democrat, mysteriously found in the trunk of a car after the election is over. (or something of that nature...i hadn't heard that term before and it still cracks me up)

This puts Prosser up by 15 Franken Units.

"Franken Units" lol

369 335 "Good point greg, Walker needs to strike while the iron is hot - pass a voter ID bill right now - they can't get any more angry.  Might as well kick them while they are down, rather then get them all riled up later on."

Voter ID would be good, but for the ideas that followed (concealed carry, etc): might I suggest taking a page from the Democratic playbook and ignoring some of the regulations already on the books?

I've noticed that a particularly effective technique is to reassure people that things are tougher and safer than they've ever been as a result of vigorous enforcement.

370 Ha! Just watched Kloppy's "victory speech" again - she said her campaign focused on being "respectful?" Oh, sure, accusing Prosser of being a kiddy-diddler and in cahoots with a kiddy-diddler and refusing to pull the ad after the actual sex abuse victims asked you to was really respectful... If that's a leftist's idea of respect, I'd sure hate to be on the receiving end of their hatred...

371 IMO, this wasn't planned to circumvent Democrat fraud.  The local news reported tonight that the City of Brookfield had the results on their website election night and they were also posted on a local Brookfield blog.  They just never made it into the Waukesha County totals that the AP used.  But it did have the effect of lulling the Dems into thinking they needed a certain amount of votes to put Kloppy over the top.

The real fraud was occuring in the city of Madison with the overvotes.  That mayoral race was where the "heat" was in the town.  They voted Kloppy because they were supposed to.  But the return of Soglin had the whole cities' interest.  There is no way there would be 10,000 people who would vote for Kloppy but leave the race for mayor blank if they were truly Madison residents.

372 Excuse the rambling train of thought here, but I think there might be some way to legislate this sort of event to nullify Democrat fraud after the initial real votes are in. (Although it won't do anything about Dem fraud by dead voters, illegal voters etc. it should stop them from "discovering ballot boxes" that take a 1-3% GOP win and turn it into a 0.25% Dem win as with Franken.)

Something like all the votes are counted (as they were here) on Election Day but the results are released for let's say only 80% of the districts at once through the evening/night with the remaining 20% having been recorded but not reported until say 12 hours later. Then they get their results reported at random so that the final results aren't known statewide until the next morning.

When the difference is 1,000s and 1,000s of votes there will be no way for cheaters (hey, even if they're GOP cheaters) to convincingly "discover" (using WI as an example) another 9,000 net votes for the cheaters (hey, even if they're GOP cheaters) on Election Day itself or the morning after. It'd be a pretty obvious fraud if another x number of ballot boxes were discovered containing just the amount of votes needed to cover the late-reported-ballot advantage held by either party 12+ hours after most of the results were reported.

And this is nonpartisan--the only group this would hurt would be cheaters--it isn't affected by race, class or any other potential "racist etc." accusation that would be (and are) levelled against mandatory photo I.D.s or the like by the fraud-covering Left.

374 How dare the Republicans hold back votes and therefore making it look like the Democrats can go home early instead of staying up all night filling out fraudulent ballots.

Posted by: Frank Sinatra at April 07, 2011 08:57 PM (tvs2p)

376 Yeah, I think that's the lesson here.

Unless there is a law mandating prompt reporting of election results, there's a real disincentive for honest places to report tallies early because it just results in the cheats (and we know they're out there...and I feel pretty confident in saying they're mostly Democrats) producing only what they need to win.

If they had no clue what they really needed to win, they'd either have to be honest (nahhhh) or they'd have to crank up the grave-robbing to 11 in an effort to be certain, thereby (hopefully for the good guys) making the fraud so obvious that no one (well, except the Obama DOJ) could ignore it.

377 Wow. Today was FREAKY. I wonder how this will all ultimately turn out. Presumably Kloppenburg will go for the automatic recount she was trying to say that Prosser should avoid back when he looked 200 votes down. Wisconsin is crazy. I'm glad I don't live there. I'd be a shivering wreck every election. Too many Goblins lurking around spinning ties into wins.

If you topped off your real dairy pudding with wrigglers, that would consitute a mixture of milk and meat. Definitely not kosher. See Deuteronomy 14:21.

If you didn't complete, but contributed crabs the mix, as morons are wont to do, also not kosher. Leviticus 11:9.

381 At first, I thought this meant Prosser had actually lost. I was prepared for that ol' shot-in-the-foot GOP'er feeling again.

I scanned what you wrote and nothing leapt out and said "Prosser Won!" But, of course, I watched the video at HotAir and found out different.

From the Valley of Lows to the Mountains of Teh High ... I hope this is not a preview of the election. I'm not young anymore and my heart may not take this.

I plan on kissing MKHammer for her beautiful Tweet headline (of course, I'd kiss The Hammer to celebrate National Potato Day and will probably get arrested for either).

Who would have thought Wisconsin would start leaning ever so slightly to the right???

386 I am down with the first to claim victory is the winner - but how does 'ol Mikey Moore feel how having to be on the ballot in the first place? If he is okay with that, I now declare myself the winner of the general election for President next year. As I will need a few dollars to advance to my family friend Bill Ayers to write my autobiography, maybe Mike can advance me some dough (say, a dollar for each pound he weighs?) until I start pulling down that sweet, sweet four hundred large in January of 2013.

387 There are two ways to look at this: 1. that Klop - a professional prosecutor of very long experience in a state which has a very long history of hotly-contested electoral politics - unaccountably went completely nuts and turned herself into the modern version of Dewey Wins; or 2. that there is something discoverably wrong with the late-reported ballots in Brookfield. The latest actual news is that the Klopp forces have made the request for the whole public data base on the Brookfield ballots, and have retained Elias and his team to contest the outcome, and that Prosser in turn has retained Ginsburg and his team in response. The last time these two teams went head-to-head was in Minnesota in the US Senate election contest of 2008-2009. And we know what happened there. This is not over by a long shot.
