DeMint's Candidate Forum
— DrewM

It's on CNN right now.

No Perry, he had to head home and actually be a Governor.

DeMint, Steve King from Iowa and Robert P. George will be asking them questions.

Bachmann is up first. DeMint is asking about constitutional limits on the government, jobs and right to work.

Best part of this 3 questions in? Questions actual Republicans care and think about.

20 I love how the Lib-dem-socs always claim Rick Perry's success in Texas is just dumb luck.  Perry's campaign add response should be...

"Well my fellow Americans, if I would have implemented Obama's policies at a state level in Texas, such as preventing oil companies from drilling and refining oil, if I would have let the EPA have a free hand in Texas as they wanted to do without any push back, if I would have supported labor unions over the interest of job creators and taxpayers, if I or my administration would have established the same anti business anti growth policies as the Obama administration, then I too would have the same dismal record in Texas as Obama has at the national level."

Posted by: Paris Paramus at September 05, 2011 03:33 PM (kfz40) You do realize McCain was a Senator? Had absolutely no executive authority? Couldn't do anything more than sponsor a bill? And really, not even that, because every bill related to the financial crisis would have been an appropriation, and thus must originate in the House. Perry, OTOH, is the Chief Executive of Texas. He can direct state level resources, call out the Guard, reassure his residents, and use the bully pulpit of his office to marshal resources not directly under his control. If you can't quite grasp the nuance of the differences, I have to say, you're not as smart as I've long considered you to be.

109 I know Perry felt he needed to be in TX, but I would have liked to hear what he had to say to some of the questions at this forum.   They are getting into much more depth than any debate we will hear.

Always after me Lucky Charms!

I like to call him "malignant dwarf" except that Victor Franko managed to be somewhat heroic at the end of that movie.

112 @102 Yeah, I think it's a great way for someone to get egg on their face. Somewhere like Hot Air, where vocal Palinistas make up at least a sizable plurality of commenters, and has closed registration, one could get away with it a bit more. Here, on the other hand, with open reg 24/7, assuming someone supports any candidate without knowing their history is a risky proposition. But hey, 3-4 months ago, anyone who criticized Palin was labeled a Romneybot by more than a few Palinistas. It's a go-to way to dismiss someone without thinking about their argument by supporters of all candidates.

Yeah, this does seem like a missed opportunity. I wish they'd schedule something like this in Jan/Feb during primetime, so more people would be paying attention. Also, I sort of wish Santorum and Huntsman were here. I like this format.

131 BTW -

Sarah Palin's latest facebook post (sarahpac)  LINK

Excerpt (emphasis added):

Yesterday morning I joined the "Jump Right in and Run" half marathon in Storm Lake, Iowa and last night in Manchester, New Hampshire we enjoyed a lovely dinner at the Puritan Back Room. The local folks we met with were wonderfully nice and true American patriots. Their concerns were common - the massive burden of government on small businesses, the abysmal economic and employment rate and their strong desire to restore America.
