Did Salon Just Get Hacked Now?
— Ace

You tell me what other possible explanation for this article, stating that fossil fuels may be well-nigh inexhaustible and therefore there is no compelling reason to pursue alternative energy, appearing there.

Is it some very subtle kind of irony I'm missing? Does Salon do Opposite Day?

Update: Oh, I just got word back. @joanwalsh hit "@" when she meant to hit "d." It was a very private article, meant to be shared only between two consulting adults, but then... hackers.

Thanks to dri, from the sidebar.

Who should be hacked next to distract attention away from our plot to kill Gaia by means of the Big Evil Oil Companies?

Surely someone will catch on if we follow through with our plan to pump high pressure water into the Earth until it bursts like a big fucking ballon, killing all the grandmothers in one fell swoop as directed by Ryan... unless we hax0r a Twitter account.

Does Schumer have a Twitter account?  I suggest posting a photoshopped picture of him having sexual relations with a TV camera- it has to have an air of plausibility if it's to work, after all.

I'll have Murdoch run it by Breitbart to see what they can do.  Even if they catch on, those dumb liberals at DKos will just accuse us of trying to divert attention from Christie's helicopter use, so they pose no threat.

How much fracking could have been accomplished over the last 3 years, if we put in, oh, say $5 Trillion dollars?

But as toby928 points out, who needs prosperity. Decline is a choice and so far, Western societies have for the most part been choosing, decline. Even Canada, although it pulled out of Kyoto, part 2, still parrots climate change.

I think all of this will be adopted someday. I just think it's going to be after the collapse. Once the welfare state collapses, environmentalism will follow. That cleansing fire is going to be something to see.

So.... that oil would have been pumping for the last 10 years...

82 The left has been blinded by fossil fuels for a long time and inherent hysterics only cause most of us to tune out to any topic they go off about.

Unfortunately that means most of us are missing this rising issue.  As concerns our way of life, other rare metals, water, gasses, and food are simply not plentiful enough for 7+ billion people to live the way we do.  We mostly live in 2-4 bedroom heated/cooled homes 1-2 vehicles.  A quickly rising apprx  2-2.5 billion of earths 6.8 billion people right now live like us, and the price of basic metals, food, and fuel, have been increasing year on year for awhile now.  Copper as a core building and industrial material that used to be more plentiful above needs is now running shorts.  As China/India combined 2.6 billion people have more of their people leaving shacks to buy homes and cars shortages and price jumps are going to become more frequent.  Communism kept a few billion people to poor to compete for resources over the 75'ish years thus artificially delaying the effects of earths population.  There are ways to keep our current consumption levels:

A. limit earth population to 2-3 billion
B. keep all but the privileged 2-3 billion living in shacks on 2-3 cups of rice/wheat a day
C. reorganize our lifestyles into lighter resource use and maybe max 4-5 billion can live comfortable modern lives.
D. Make the western money so valuable we get first dibs on everything.

There is only so much that can be done to build cars and homes out of less materials.  Unfortunately what is happening now is that we are devaluing our dollar as our need to compete for resources is ramping up.  Its a bad confluence of events.   I am an "all of the above" guy.

*start making birth control free the whole world over for anyone who wants it
*end foreign aid of food and money (it props up dictators while exploding birth rates)
*Shrink or switch to more plentiful resources for homes and cars
*stabilize the dollar
*Western World start stock piling rare materials (very necessary in electronics and manufacturing)
*Start building thorium power plants
*Manhattan project on solar and battery technology
*A slew of new dams to store fresh water for drought years

Anyway that would be a good start to a "healthy Civilization" that would have hopes of being around 200 years from now.  Of course I think we are just going to go down like the post-Roman world did, so none of this matters.

Those Prius drivers are an enormous pain in the butt. If you are behind a car that is going too slow it is either a senior citizen or someone in a Prius. They don't understand the basic concept that you are SUPPOSED to drive at least five miles over the speed limit.

112 Calling biomass fuels CO2 emitting is extremely disingenuous. Yes, burning wood or other crops releases CO2, but that CO2 was in the atmosphere just a few short months or years ago before being captured by the plants that are being burned. And when more plants are grown to replace these, they'll absorb the CO2 currently being released.

I stole this from the comments over at Salon.  I about shit when I read it.  These people know absolutely nothing about combustion, energy, science or life.  When you burn a carbon fuel such as gasoline, natural gas or even wood in air(21% O2, 78% N2, less than 1% other shit), you get HEAT+CO2+H2O+N2(already there)+ trace amounts of other shit(including NOx, SOx,CO). You don't merely release CO2 that was absorbed by the plants.  These idiots can no longer be permitted to dumb down real science with their obscene stupidity.  The most depressing part is that I bet these people learned this in high school.
