Disgusting Partisanship on Display After Shooting
— Gabriel Malor

When the news broke yesterday that there was a shooting at an event for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, the response for most was immediate: concern, prayers, and hope that the perpetrator is caught immediately and punished severely. Politics didn't matter in that moment; if someone shoots at one of our elected leaders, that person is an enemy of us all. The response for a few others was equally immediate: Sarah Palin.

This has become a recurring pattern for liberal commentators over the past few years. Something bad happens and somehow, without any evidence at all, it is Palin's fault and, more broadly, the Tea Party's. That was the first reaction of Markos Moulitsas and Matt Yglesias yesterday. It was widely taken up by the left side of the blogosphere who managed to convince themselves that Gabrielle Giffords had been shot on the express orders of Sarah Palin. Not kidding.

Remember, all this liberal posturing about Sarah Palin's gun rhetoric took place before we knew anything about the shooter. In fact, at that time we didn't even know how many shooters there were. Giffords had been reported dead, then alive, then unknown. For a while it was unclear whether she had been the target or the federal judge who was also killed. This uncertainty about the facts went on for most of the afternoon. But liberals kept a steady faith: this is all Sarah Palin's fault.

How is it that people who endlessly protest that they are part of the "reality-based community" can't even wait for the facts before proclaiming the state of reality? The truth is, liberals were posturing about Palin's "extremist rhetoric" long before the shooting, so it doesn't matter what the facts on the ground are or how disconnected she ultimately is from the event. She's still at fault.

And that's what happened as the facts slowly emerged about Jared Lee Loughner. Based on his internet sites, he appeared to be nuttier than Planters and it seems that his actions were based not on anything he saw or heard from Sarah Palin, but rather his own mental illness. There is no evidence, whatsoever, that he was a devotee of Palin or a Tea Partier. No evidence that he ever came into contact with the "extremist rhetoric" on the Right at all.

Doesn't matter. Liberals have assumed that he heard "right-wing vitriol", that it motivated him, and that as a result, all charged political speech should be condemned. This makes no sense at all because, at this point, we don't know anything about whether Loughner heard any of this "dangerous" rhetoric, much less whether it motivated him. And so every newspaper this weekend and all the cable news shows are fretting about "extremist rhetoric". Without any evidence, whatsoever, that political rhetoric had anything to do with the shooting.

Maybe we'll find out he was active in the Tea Party. But I doubt it. His favorite books included "Mein Kampf" and the "Communist Manifesto." He favorited a flag-burning on YouTube. Not your typical Tea Partier, anyway.

I imagine we're going to have a few years now where candidates and campaigns are going to tiptoe carefully around charged rhetoric and the newspapers will forever be linking Giffords and Palin for an explanation. Entirely without evidence. Imagine that. Liberals have used an unrelated event to confirm their liberal ideas and score low-hanging fruit off of an atrocity.

More: Definitely check out Legal Insurrection's review of the attack and the liberal response. He's got a great list of the violent attacks over the past few years where Liberals started out blaming the Tea Party only to discover that the criminals were either a-political or out-and-out Leftists.

Later: It shouldn't come to this, but in light of the overwhelming media coverage somehow linking the Arizona shooting to Palin and the Tea Party, it's worth highlighting what we all know already: "extremist rhetoric" is by no means evident only on the Right.

Here's the President dangerously suggesting gun violence to his followers.

Here's Markos Moulitsas putting Congressmen, including Rep. Giffords, on a "target list."

Do I think that these men are responsible for the violence in Arizona? Of course not. There's no evidence that Loughner even heard or read this stuff. That's the point. Without a single shred of evidence that "extremist rhetoric" encouraged the attack, the Left has decided that it simply must have contributed. Because they want it to be so, dammit, that's why.

10 I agree.  I happen to know some of the local Dems (In Tucson) who, without facts, jumped to numerous conclusions about the shooter.  I even heard local reporters stating that dirt bag was a military vet of Iraq or the 'stan.  Which also was not true. Every time they think they have an "ha, I told you so moment", they are invariably wrong.  None of this is even remarkably remarkable.  It what I have come to expect.

You dont know the half of it

One veteran Democratic operative, who blames overheated rhetoric for the shooting, said President Barack Obama should carefully but forcefully do what his predecessor did.
“They need to deftly pin this on the tea partiers,” said the Democrat. “Just like the Clinton White House deftly pinned the Oklahoma City bombing on... the militia and anti-government people.”

And what do we do about it? People have been pointing it out again and again. The internet lets us capture pictures like the Daily Kos target at the same time they are screaming about Palin using a target. Doesn't seem to slow them down a bit. So what now? Drive the MSN out of business, I guess and continue to point and laugh at the bloggers.

I never thought liberals could sink any lower into staggering idiocy and tactlessness than they did during the Ft. Hood shooting.  Yesterday changed my mind.  It's like liberals said, why wait for the facts?  Let's just construct a moronic fantasy where a normal person is driven into a homidical rage because he saw a campaign map with crosshairs on it.  Let's take this imaginary little world we live in and present it as fact.

Yesterday convinced me that liberals are incapable of rational thought and I will never again waste my time arguing with them.  They cannot be reasoned with and should be ignored, online and in real life.

Only the left has prominent members, such as Van Jones and Francis Piven, calling for the necessity of violence.  The Tea Party and other conservative groups are not violent.  Only the right has demonstrations by hundreds of thousands of people where the end result is that they pick up all the trash.  Leftists leave a trail of wreckage in their wake.

Yep.  Alinsky with a mailed fist.  To the Ruling Class, "hypocrisy" is a weapon (among several) used to destroy the reputation of the opposition's leadership and the opposition's political societies.  Facts do not matter.  Those who control the conversation have the power to ignore the truth.  And to bury it, if possible.

Sarah Palin is the one person the Left believes must be destroyed before the 2012 presidential campaign begins in earnest. They have told us repeatedly whom they fear the most.

Yep, that asswipe posted his vile just a couple days before the shooting.   It makes much more sense that he would have been responsible for motivating the shooter than Palin posting an election strategy last freakin' March.

Plus, the left (DLC), and Marcos Mooseslips specifically, don't want to say sqaut about their own electoral maps that were posted that targeted and put a bullseye on ousting Giffords, because they thought she was too moderate.   And, those maps were posted using actual bullseyes.

84 You know yesterday was really odd here.  A poster with the moniker "Frank G" put up the link to NPR.  It wasn't clickable so I figured I would, if it was a decent link, make it clickable.  so I went to the link and read the body of the article and made the link clickable.  It wasn't until a poster named "diana" said that the NPR article said she was killed that I realized I had completely missed that. I said to my friend, "OMG, NPR has her as killed" and his response was "since when is NPR a definitive news source?"  Then in what seemed like seconds everyone else "jumped on the 'she's dead' bandwagon and then just as quickly ended up withdrawing their claims after the interview with the hospital spokesperson.  In all the times I've been on this website I've never seen the internet get a story so mixed up.  I'm trying to figure out what was different with this story.  Probably what was different is that there are usually more twitterings and iphone pictures and comments from people in real time at the scene.  I don't think there was any of that.  So the press, written and electronic, was relying on the internet and the internet wasn't getting any of its usual feedback from on the scene people.  The printed press and the electronic media (radio and television) are fighting the internet for an audience and losing.  Everyone I know gets their news from the internet and social media sites in particular.  I mean even gawker, a site which generally gets it right, didn't.  Makes you wonder, where were the "in real time" news sources that the internet generally relies on?

As regards Palin and the tea party find it fascinating that gabe, not Palin's biggest fan, because of the media response to this has been put in the position of having to defend her and the tea party as to not defend them makes you wonder about the direction of free speech.

Just heard a congressman on "meet the depressed" state that we have to tone down the rhetoric.  Most Americans are already self censoring.  Maybe the politicians need to begin self censoring too?

Horrible event. My prayers to the innocent victims of this heinous act and their families. Not a day, one might have hoped, for scoring political points. But they can't help themselves, it's what tey do, what they always do, they never rest. So, in partial response:

-We still don't know the facts of who this guy was, not near enough to label him. (After all, the left hates" labels" - except when they don't.).

-The very preliminary information indicates that this guy is far more of a total nutcase scumbag than a number of other violent offenders of this type. Everyone urged "caution" in those other instances, even when the attacker(s) clearly held a political/religious agenda.

-The sad fact is, the left far, far more often uses violence up to and including assassination to advance their agenda. Pretty exhaustively documented by Ann Coulter in (I believe) Victim.

-Someone on the conservative side of the spectrum, not just the blogosphere, needs to stand up and call BS! on this. Someone prominent, I don't know offhand who in the R party has the stones or presence.

\-Time to just say, "No, you bastards are not putting some horsecollar around anyone's neck." Not after the rhetoric George Bush heard for eight years complete with assassination films and scenarios. Not after the long standing track record of leftist violence in the name of their political views. Not after Ayers publicly regretted not bombing enough. Not after the MSM characterized the Uni-bomber as "someone who acted as he believed". Not after Whoopi hosts the Oscars and says she wishes someone had been around to do to Bob Dole what Lorena Bobbitt did to her memberless husband. If you want to count incidents tit for tat from the left and right, bring it on, lefties, but believe me, you will NOT like the record that is created.

-This is starting to become a bit similar to the race card, and there is no need for conservatives or Republicans to allow themselves be intimidated by false premises again.

-It goes on and on and on with these hypocrites and needs to be stopped short once and for all when the dust settles.

96 One veteran Democratic operative, who blames overheated rhetoric for the shooting, said President Barack Obama should carefully but forcefully do what his predecessor did.
“They need to deftly pin this on the tea partiers,” said the Democrat. “Just like the Clinton White House deftly pinned the Oklahoma City bombing on... the militia and anti-government people.”

Dagny called me a loon for pointing this out when we learned it was a 22 YO white male, but you know who these people are. I immediately posted a story on my FB wall and denounced myself. Most of my friends then realized how tacky it would seem to try to politicize it, but a couple brought up Sarah Palin in response to my post. I replied sarcastically that if you play her RNC speech backwards, she is reading the list of executions like some winking DeFarge. This was exactly what Obama needed to keep his post-holiday bounce. There was that golden-voiced black man who got his second chance at life earlier in the week. This next news cycle will be all about how dangerous Obama's foes are and how he is lucky to be alive. Last week, we heard how everyone -- but especially down-on-their-luck black men who are great orators -- deserve a second chance. Not saying it's a false flag operation, but it is remarkably lucky for him right after the lame duck session ends and Democrats who lost are leaving office.

(Including the Community-Organizer-in-Chief, Who has commanded us to “get in their face” and “bring a gun to a knife fight”.) Yet it was a single ad by Palin from nearly a year ago that caused this. The left blames everything on Palin/Tea Party right out of the gate. Except things like the Ft Hood shooting, where it was clearly a jihadist- in that case, don't jump to conclusions. Also do you all remember the fake-debate about Maj. Hasan and his 'sanity?'

Remember during the Presidential primaries when Obama was getting in trouble? One of the jackasses on JournoList suggested that they all call one of McCain's advisors a racist, no matter who? Same thing. It's a cloud tactic, it works pretty well so far.

"I know what you're saying. The USA is probably the worst place on earth to be poor and/or underprivileged (a minority too). On the coroner's report for the old media, this episode will be noted as the moment when it finally lost all bowel control.

A shooter, who is described by a liberal high school classmate and former bandmate as "disturbed... very left wing," whose FB page notes fave books as Mein Kampf and the Communist Manifesto, is magically transmorgrified into a Tea Party zombie under the mind control of Sarah Palin. And it's not just insane drooler leftwing crank sites peddling this; it's CNN, MSNBC, The Atlantic, NYT, places purportedly stocked with the creme of our nation's journalism talent. Places with 401-K plans and advertising sales departments.

What, or who, inspired the shooter? Despite all his apparent enthusiasm for "V" style, anti-globo black bloc conspiracy nuttery, I'll avoid the temptation to attribute it to his hard left politics, or pot smoking, or book fair volunteerism. The guy was, as far as anybody can say, a nut with a gun. But it's obvious he has inspired half the media to go on an indiscriminate character assassination spree.

Victims, murdered in cold blood by a guy who reads the same brain-rot communist books as democrat progressives.

Agreed.  the centerist dems who are now ex-dems already experienced this in '08, most us didn't believe it until it happened to our candidate that we supported, Hillary, who happened to be a democrat. The media is losing more and more of its power, they can spew all the nonsense they want, how effective is it when fewer and fewer people listen to it or believe it?

145 "Targeted districts" is standard political language used for 100 years by everyone. There is nothing violent about it at all. The object of the left/media here is to stop Sarah Palin from saying ANYTHING. If they can make even benign political language "hate speech that incites murder" in the mind of low information voters, they hurt her and hurt conservatism. This is what is going on here.

Courts -- at least those courts that follow the law, which are getting rarer by the day -- use what's called the "M'Naughten Rule," which uses a defendant's knowledge of right vs. wrong in relation to his act to determine fitness for trial.

That rule might well be applied to Kos, Krugman, Dupnik and the rest of the crazies who are using their personal hatreds to indict people who have nothing to do with what this killer did.

No, wait. I take that back. The leftwing goons who are frantically stirring shit to foment even more violence don't know that what they're doing is wrong.

Therefore, they should be remanded to mental institutions where their mania can be diagnosed and, hopefully, treated.

150 semi on thread

on Fox this morning there was a congressman that was asked about security, and he said that they feel most uneasy when going through airports. And that congressmen need to work with the TSA to insure they get special treatment.

wtf?

I'm guessing he was thinking beyond all the other dems in trying to figure out how this can benefit their party, he was trying to figure out how it could benefit him.  Maybe a private jet? or a special line where he can avoid scanners?  or maybe we should just evacuate any building before he enters so he does not have to smell the public at all.

But even posts such as this countering the left wing blogosphere concede too much by saying that we don't know the shooter's ideology.  It doesn't matter what it was.  John Hinckley cited Jody Foster as his inspiration.  Palin is as responsible for this as Foster was for Hinckley; i.e. not at all.  Even if this guy was an avid tea partier (and he clearly wasn't), the actions are his.  Does the left ever say it has blood on its hands when a lefty goes off?  Of course not.

I think the most rational response may be retreating to the boonies for the next several years, given the grave danger to which we are about to be subjected.  Sometimes, life and limb are more important than mixing it up with the insane.

Didn't you think it was weird that Rosen on Fox News said he spoke with Jared Taylor (Yale educated) founder of American Renaissance and the description of the organization was quite different from what it is being portrayed by the leftwing?  Even the DHS said it had some very bigoted views and such but that is was some sort of a think tank quasi-scientific research group all about finding out whether blacks are inferior to whites.

Seriously, is this group really the big bad wolf here or is the Government trying to come up with something to pin the right wing down on.

176 After the bodies are buried and the families are consoled, we need to fight back.

First order of business, all the politicians who tried to blame this on Palin or Tea Party or whatever need to be hounded out of office.  They need to have their phone lines completely overloaded with constituents calling for their immediate resignation.  They need to be publicly shamed such that they can never hold a position of public power again.

Second order of business is the media.  The immediate blame game bullshit needs to be thrown back in their faces.  Buy billboards, ads, infomercials, whatever it takes to show the perfidy of the media.  We can no longer afford to let the MFM get away with setting the agenda with the "low information" voters.

Each and every one of us knows a bunch of low information voters.  It is now our duty to educate them whether they want to learn or not.  It's not just our future on the line, it's theirs too.  Interrupt people in bars and restaurants when they start going off on leftist lies about Palin.  Be rude.  It's time to force the leftist meme generator off line.

If we don't do this, then every time someone important is shot, we're going to be blamed and the statists are going to gain more power.

I want to agree with you but I have seen so many parents delusional about the character of their own children that i think expecting parents to access the danger posed by their children is unrealistic. people have an enormous capacity for self-delusion and denial.

No, I think this is either one of those cases that are unfortunate but there is nothing a free society can reasonably do to prevent, or the it is a case where the mechanisms are wanting. My guess is the latter since as soon as the college and police decided he was a danger, there should be a way to keep him off the streets and guns out of his hands.

Here too I argue against instinct and think maybe the gov should be better at keeping someone like that under control instead of worrying about incandescent light bulbs, salt, knives longer that 4", and rate plan ISP's.

210 Very obviously mentally ill. There's a conspiracy site called "above top secret" where some of the participants are convinced that the shooter was a poster there using the name erad3. If that's true, there might be another connection. erad3 had some, umm, issues with NASA: http://tinyurl.com/2wt4ksc http://tinyurl.com/26fejrc It's very convoluted so not clear but it seems like he didn't think the Mars rovers or the Space Shuttle flights were real. Giffords' husband is a NASA astronaut, shuttle pilot. I have no idea if this means anything or if erad3 is even him but there you go.

211 I'm shocked Politico published this:

President Obama and his wife left Valerie Jarrett's house at 11:11 p.m., after spending five hours at his senior adviser's residence, the pool reports.

The Obamas left the White House for Jarrett's shortly after the president spoke about the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

The pool adds: "The two stayed for nearly five hours tonight, coincidentally leaving minutes after the conclusion of two incredibly close NFL playoff games. The Seattle Seahawks upset the New Orleans Saints 41-36, and the New York Jets just eliminated the Indianapolis Colts 17-16 with a late field goal. No news on what POTUS was actually doing."

229 "extremist rhetoric" is by no means evident only on the Right I'm not sure there is much actual extremist rhetoric on the right. There's a big difference between me speculating that Obama has AIDS or that we should all stock up on guns for some hypothetical tyranny down the road and what the Left does. Frances Fox Piven came out recently and said violent action was necessary for revolutionary change. Van Jones has been stoking that fire too. Two days ago someone at Kos wrote about how the congresswoman was dead to him and implied violence. Some leftist nut job finally took their advice. The Left advocates violence. Every day. Every hour. I'm not sure the right engages in this sort of push for transformative change at the barrel of a gun in any top down, here's your orders sort of way. These attacks by leftist whackadoos will continue. And the Left will continue to blame them on us. It gives them cannon fodder for taking down the 1st and 2nd amendment. And with it the nation.

And they don't even mention the killers own profile what we do know about the shooter - his favorite books: Marx, Engels "The communist manifesto"  and Hitler's struggle.

So when Mr. Obama brags about listening to the gangster rappers, Nas, Lil Wayne and Jay Z who all glamorize gang violence with F this N that and misogyny, it is somehow alright?  Where the world is the media calling out the president on the disgusting influence this stuff has on the culture and the mores of the youth?

The left is orchestrating a disgusting attack on conservatives.  The left is engaged in spreading lies.  We must continue to speak the truth and expose the left for who they are.

The left is going to move the horrible events of yesterday into a truncated news cycle that will be furthering their anti-conservative meme.

Perhaps Sherriff Dupnik should look at the leader of his own party and then their media mouth pieces before he vents his partisan screed.

My prayers go out to the victims and their families and to our nation in this hour. And hour in which the mainstream media is coopting to further its agenda, how very sad indeed for our nation. The fourth estate no longer exists and those that do speak up doing what the media is supposed to do, are the ones being blamed and castigated for society's ills.

253 You know last night I was listening to Batchelor.  What struck me was that he appeared to be upping the rhetoric even more than he normally does.  His program was where I heard that the little girl was born on 9/11/2001 and was featured in some book about babies born on 9/11/2001.  I didn't believe my own ears but he subsequently repeated it many times.  Oddly enough he then appeared on the program that follows his to talk about how the rhetoric is getting out of hand.  I found myself laughing thinking to myself "my God, this guy should listen to his own show tonight before he begins throwing stones at others".

I listened to his show the sunday night when all the stock market crap went down, it's not a rhetoric filled show, mostly total shock and disbelief.  I expected a similar program, total shock and disbelief and instead I got a lot of verbal ravel rousing.  When jeff bliss came on and said that the report on the little girl was that she was shot when kneeling and it would eventually come out so he was going to say it and they presumed she was hiding behind something seeking cover, well then I personally cried and cried.  Batchelor is known as a conservative commentator.  Makes you wonder if the entire world of journalism has gone stark raving mad.

260 I'm so consumed today with horror at what has happened to and in this country.  So disturbed by the left, and I quote iowahawk, losing all bowel control, over this.  They are a combination of giddy, sick, vile, vicious and hate-filled for reasons that remain thus far completely and totally unsubstantiated.  My mind has completely blown...aghast at what I am witnessing.  This country's soul is so very sick to the core.  I want to believe we can overcome, I want to believe we're not being destroyed, I want to believe we are strong and resilient and have overcome worse times.  But what I'm seeing play out is just unreal.  The disconnect with reality is astonishing.  The left machine is so powerful, so large, so all encompassing.  The media is complicit in these lies, having abandoned all objectivity, all investigative instinct in pursuit of their agenda.   I feel as though we are hanging by a thread.  How do we overcome such entrenched evil?  I put little faith in the low information American to be able to see through it all.  What a depressing day.

My salvation lies in the fact that recent reports show conservatives outnumber liberals, who are on the decline, as an identity in American politics.  I'm really praying that our numbers are growing and that, while we have little voice in the media, that doesn't negate the fact that we are there and growing.  And most importantly, not falling for the left's tricks anymore.

266 From Rick Moran at the American Thinker:

And the winner of the most bizarre, overwrought, hysterical denunciation of Sarah Palin by a brainless lefty is...

It's not Paul Krugman, although I know he has many fans on the right who were hoping he would win the prize because he fits the "brainless" description so aptly.

Nor is it any lefty blogger who, over the last 24 hrs, has stretched, and stretched, and stretched the point some more about Sarah Palin's "target" list actually meaning that she hoped someone or someones would grab a gun and off the congressmen she wanted defeated.

Sorry - you're all wrong. The winner is the NY Daily News' Michael Daly.

The headline on his column: "Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' blood is on Sarah Palin's hands after putting cross hair over district;"

Here's the passage that nailed down his victory:

270 Just read the sidebar so let's do a recap: 1) The Left demands violence. 2) LEFTIST nutjob shoots people. 3) The Left blames Palin and Talk Radio and Guns. 4) And now LEftist Phelps is going to ruin a child victim's funeral. And frankly I'm really tired of these moral relativist douchers who say the Right is just like the Left or that this guy had no political motivation because he was crazy. You can't be crazy in a vacuum. Hinckley shot Reagan because he was obsessed with Jodie Foster. Loughner killed because he was leftist. Crazy isn't a motivation it is a condition. And the fact that he mentioned being called a terrorist shows a capacity for determined right from wrong. Which blows any chance at an insanity defense. And the Right is nothing like the Left. The Left is a group of violent Communist revolutionaries willing to take lives to achieve their agenda. The right are people who want to save their nation and their liberty. You'd think for a group as "angry and intolerant", don't forget "racist", lots of peopel would be dead by now. We on the right are inherently peaceful. The Left by their ideology is always violent. We are nothing alike.

It is clear that the liberal left, in some regards cannot bear the fact that everything that was rammed through Congress the past two years, their "Holy Grail" policies are going to be undone and/or stripped of funding. They are saying basically that if we continue to attempt to roll these policies back then it is our fault if some of their self immolating fire flies pop off here and there. Hence, we are resisting(and starting to win) via political discourse which is "causing" their side to go pop. So from their point of view....It's our fault for starting the ball rolling by resisting).

276 Fox just reported that, because a federal judge was killed, no warrants will be issued from the federal bench, due to possible conflicts of interest other federal judges might have.

That sounds too stupid to be true. I can see a judge recussing himself if he was a personal friend of the slain judge, but nothing else.

298 Read over the "official" news reports this morning, since they've had time to catch up and here's what I noted:

1) They are still mentioning the tea party, although not as a "suspect", so to speak. But they are keeping the tea party linked to this story.

2) They've managed to interview some people who went to school with the shooter, but somehow completely missed the girl who tweeted yesterday that she knew him well and that he was "very liberal" and a "political radical".

3) No mention, NONE, of the libby leftards being pissed at Gifford for voting against Pelosi. If you're looking for political motivation, it's tea party related or nothing.

299 I pray for all of the victims and their families.  I also pray for swift and lawful justice against the killer.

For anyone on the left to be consistent on this, they need to prove that they campaign tirelessly against:  PRON, rap music, heavy metal music, gratuitously sexual teen television shows, pop music (Lady Gaga, anyone?), most any major Hollywood film studio producing violent images, Islamic clerics, and movie makers like Michael Moore and Oliver Stone.

Prove you've done all of those things, which obviously can incite rape, violence against women, acts of terrorism, and countless other anti-social behaviors, and you'll have some credibility.  Otherwise, go pound sand.

302 Why the outrage?  This is simply campaigning by the MSM.

This is their job.

This is what they are paid to do.

They are leftwing political orgs, who only hire leftwing reporters who have but ONE duty; to run a 24/7/365 political campaign against the Right....for 30 years running.

Do rightwing voters not know this by now?

I guess not...since Republican/Conservative voters continue to nominate and elect only men who are "clean" of any MSM battle scars.

Only men and women who are acceptable to the MSM/DNC/Hollywood/Academia war room.

Only men and women who get "good press", and are therefore unable and unwilling to fight back.

What a racket the left has going.....and we fall for it everytime.

As for Palin, as long as she keeps herself alive (and I unfortunately mean that literally, since I'm sure every nut in the world is planning on k*lling her,) she is actually I think serving a very important purpose.

She is the vessel of all of their hate. She is the embodiment of it. As long as she is in the public eye, she is their focus.

Which, in another way, could mean that a strong candidate may be allowed to emerge for 2012.

You should have seen it before.  The left and the MFM ran with this exact same line, and the same map, about a year ago.  They stopped quickly because it was so stupid.  People understand what normal usage of these words and symbols are.  CNN had Crossfire, with crosshairs as its logo, for years.  The argument is just too stupid.  That's why I was so surprised that pulled the same exact thing out.  It is truly odd.

Posted by: iknowtheleft at January 09, 2011 12:49 PM (G/MYk)

But they fertilized the ground with that map.  That was the point, to set the stage so that any action at any time for any reason could be blamed on the map.

The whole "atmosphere" and "rhetoric" argument came out during Oklahoma City, too.  They couldn't blame anybody specifically (McVeigh was way out on the fringes) so they started on the "atmosphere."  The real target then was Limbaugh and he pushed back.

Note: Not Newt, but Limbaugh.  Similarly, they go after Palin, not Boehner.

What they are really trying to do is separate the base of the Republican party from the elected officials.  They're trying to make the rabble so unsavory that the "reasonable" GOP Congressman will want to bend over backwards to not be associated with their base.

I don't think it will work as well this time.

I have read what this guy posted. The stuff on AboveTopSecret is undoubtedly him too.   I have to take issue with the meme that this guy is insane. He isn't.  I take issue with the idea that simply because someone is irrational and violent they are insane. He is first and foremost a real anti-government liberal. A 60's-70's era liberal. Not the kind we know today who are actually pro-government. He has a perfectly rational motive too, fame and attention. If guys like Bill Ayers can go on to become famous writers and professors then why shouldn't he think he will too?

The guy thinks he's a genius and society will recognize him for it, even if he has to force them with violence. That isn't insanity simply because he isn't a genius.

His argumentative style has nothing to do with schizophrenia either. It's just really bad Sherlock Holmes posing "questions". He's trying to make you think and wake you up just like every other lame ass liberal you meet  on a college campus.

400 From one of Loughner's professors:

McGahee said he had to make several complaints before administrators finally removed Loughner.

“They just said, ‘Well, he hasn’t taken any action to hurt anyone. He hasn’t provoked anybody. He hasn’t brought any weapons to class,’” McGahee recalled. “‘We’ll just wait until he takes that next step.’”

On his first day in class, McGahee said, Loughner yelled out a random number during a lesson, then asked the instructor a strange question. “How can you deny math instead of accepting it?” he yelled…

On another test, McGahee said, Loughner wrote the words “Eat+Sleep+Brush Teeth=Math.” “He just miserably failed the test,” McGahee said.

If I do so because I don't like the students' face, I'll have to defend it, but all the professor would have to do is get a couple of student witnesses and this guy could have been kept out of the classroom.

Prog logic 101 -

AZ shooter Loughner sees/reads Palin's political target map, but not Kos' political bullseye list, and clearly acting on this info alone, however fleeting the impression, goes on a shooting rampage.  Palin is complicit and must stand to account for her crimes.  Also all talk radio.  Also Fox News.

President Obama sits in a church (or not) for 20 years listening to "GD America" rhetoric - no effect on Obama.  Knows Ayres and Dohrn from the neighborhood, launches his political career from their living room - no effect on Obama.  Mentored by Frank Marshall Davis as a young lad - no effect on Obama.  Steeped his entire life in lefty fringe thinking and associates - no effect on Obama.  Why, he's just a good ol' American child who grew up to be a politically moderate, post-racial, post-bipartisan President.

What is truly, almost mind-numbingly astounding is that Krugman is considered a Nobel prize-winning intellect.  From what I've read, he was one of the first to fabricate the meme that Palin is responsible for the shootings.

I can barely bring myself to talk to delusional Democrats anymore.  I now just break out in laughter when I hear B.S. like this.  There is no point in trying for a rational discussion.  Just point and laugh, then walk away.

Grijalva said that Tea Party leader Sarah Palin should reflect on the rhetoric that she has employed. “She — as I mentioned, people contributing to this toxic climate — Ms. Palin needs to look at her own behavior, and if she wants to help the public discourse, the best thing she could do is to keep quiet.”

^This is why.   Why they are going batshit insane trying to paint Sarah as being at fault for this.    They have tried everything they could to shut her up.   They truly believe this will do it.

They're right to an extent.   Their vitriol makes me hate.

470 A surprising article from Slate:

Snip~

The lead spokesman for the anti-inflammatory movement, however, was Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, whose jurisdiction includes Tucson. Said Dupnik at a Jan. 8 press conference in answer to questions about the criminal investigation:

I'd just like to say that when you look at unbalanced people, how they are—how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths, about tearing down the government, the anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous. And unfortunately, Arizona, I think, has become sort of the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry.

Embedded in Sheriff Dupnik's ad hoc wisdom were several assumptions. First, that strident, anti-government political views can be easily categorized as vitriolic, bigoted, and prejudicial. Second, that those voicing strident political views are guilty of issuing Manchurian Candidate--style instructions to commit murder and mayhem to the "unbalanced." Third, that the Tucson shooter was inspired by to kill by political debate or by Sarah Palin's "target" map or other inflammatory outbursts. Fourth, that we should calibrate our political speech in such a manner that we do not awaken the Manchurian candidates among us.

And, fifth, that it's a cop's role to set the proper dimensions of our political debate. Hey, Dupnik, if you've got spare time on your hands, go write somebody a ticket.

Sheriff Dupnik's political sermon came before any conclusive or even circumstantial proof had been offered that the shooter had been incited by anything except the gas music from Jupiter playing inside his head.

For as long as I've been alive, crosshairs and bull's-eyes have been an accepted part of the graphical lexicon when it comes to political debates. Such "inflammatory" words as targeting, attacking, destroying, blasting, crushing, burying, knee-capping, and others have similarly guided political thought and action. Not once have the use of these images or words tempted me or anybody else I know to kill. I've listened to, read—and even written!—vicious attacks on government without reaching for my gun. I've even gotten angry, for goodness' sake, without coming close to assassinating a politician or a judge.

507 "Was the shooter given special treatment after making death threats because his mother is a local politician?"

These remarks were included in the memo put out by DHS yesterday at 6:00pm.

* suspectÂ’s mother works for the Pima County Board of Supervisors
* the suspect has multiple arrests Â… But no criminal record? Intervention by someone?

Looks like there are definite questions.   Maybe the good sheriff is trying too hard to place blame?

You should read the memo the DHS put out yesterday.   Looks like they were already doing a lot of speculation.   In what direction, you ask?    Well, that's easy.

Most of it has already been debunked, of course.

510   Tami, Jane, I agree about the timing. But one thing occurred to me is that I just don't have any idea what I'd do if something like that happened to my family. I think all the family members get an automatic pass. That includes Giffords' father who blamed the Tea Party yesterday. He's hurting and afraid. It was an uncool statement, but he's entitled to be distraught right now.

511 Agreed, Gabe.  She sounded incredibly calm, too.

(Wish she'd have stayed off MSDNC, though.  That's just me.)

512 sifty - 491 Kyl was on board for the failed McAmnesty bill. He was all for it - on the radio out here every day trying to sell it as "the best we could do" Kyl is another POS career politician. Nothing more.

513 Never liked Kyl. Not since I lived out there. Fake like a Swartzenshriver.

I definitely think this sheriif is hiding something awful in this kids record.

515 From Steph's link:

Even Mark Potok of the SPLC was
quoted today as saying, “Jared Taylor is not an anti-Semite.”

Of course, now that it is beginning to appear that the shooter was their boy, antisemitism must be ruled out.

516 CDR M, I bawled my eyes out hearing the mom on with Gretchen on Fox this morning.

It just got weird to me, and my husband, when an hour later she was on MSNBC.

Of course, everyone handles grief differently.  She may still be completely in shock.

Posted by: Jane D'oh at January 09, 2011 11:34 AM (UOM48)

517 CDR M, I switched all around this morning between Fox, CNN, and MSDNC.  CNN had me so enraged I could barely breathe.

I'm imagining the "fun" that idiot Joyless Behar will have on the subject on "The View" tomorrow.  I'll have to find out from commenters.  My brain can't stand being subjected to that much stupid and hate.

Posted by: Jane D'oh at January 09, 2011 11:40 AM (UOM48)

518 Oh, and I had MSDNC on when the friend of the killer was describing him as a far-left lib.  The blonde on MSDNC (Alex?) quickly tried to skim over the point.  It was teh funnay.

Posted by: Jane D'oh at January 09, 2011 11:42 AM (UOM48)

519 It will be interesting to hear Rush tomorrow, as well as Beck.  My husband is watching "Sarah Palin's Alaska" right now (switching back and forth to the game) and said if he were Todd he'd have a hard time not going after every single lib with their vile comments about his wife.

Oh, I'm giving them a pass.  I'm just saying that I would not even be able to construct a sentence, let alone go on news programs and be interviewed.

522 534 "A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on." Winston Churchill ------- I believe it was Mark Steyn who explained a few days ago (while Rush was on vacation) that this is because the truth has too many shoes; it takes too long to figure out what to wear.

Well, the lefty meme is slowly, but surely falling apart.   Looks like they found a letter from Giffords to the shooter in his safe at his house.  Dated 2007.  Another envelope with that letter said, in so many words, I have solved my problem, assassination.

Where were Sarah and the Tea Party in '07?   This sick shitbag was just using Giffords to achieve his own annihalation.

Junk science = Junk politics

Yet another thing to add to the "Caused by global warming" list ...

Best to stand back and let the left spin out of control on this one. Facts do not matter to them (never have), because they make their own rules as they go along, as we were told by a certain Congressman during the ObamaCare vote/debate. To call them "retarded" is not only inaccurate, but does an unfair and cruel disservice to actual 'retarded' people who have higher IQs than these people and levels of common sense these people could only dream of. No, these people are pathological sociopath arsonists. They are 'bots' for the cause/agenda. Soon this "strawman" in the image of Sarah Palin and the Tea Party will be ignited by a spark of truth and it will completely turn to a pile of ashes at their feet. Fuck`em all.

If it turns out that Dupnik had ANYTHING to do with dropped charges against the shooter...

I can't even finish that sentence. It's bad enough that he's a false-accusing ideologically-driven idiot, if he turns out to be covering his own ass...

531 Expecting leftists to be honest is like asking fish to go rock climbing. It just isn't in their nature. Leftists aren't just wrong, they are BAD. Theirs is conscious and deliberate evil. They are the existential enemies of anyone who desires liberty.

Otherwise, you will not enjoy an exciting football match. Anyway, it is necessary and essential to prepare for the football match in a good way.(yang)
