DOOM! ... It's What's For Dinner

Monty may have taken some time off, but doom sure didn't because there's a smorgasbord in the headlines today. There's unemployment doom, stock market doom, consumer confidence doom, domestic debt doom, foreign debt doom ...

I feel like Bubba in Forrest Gump, but I'm naming all the different kinds of doom instead of shrimp. (Sorry, there's no bacon-wrapped doom. Yet.)

I'll limit this quickie post to that nasty 3-letter word: J-O-B-S. Today's unemployment report showed that we, Unexpectedly™, added only 54,000 jobs in May and the unemployment rate shot back up to 9.1%. Backing out the 62,000 jobs added by McDonald's leaves ... a one-term president.

Additionally, coblogger emeritus Geoff pointed out that we've shed 430,000 full-time jobs in the last couple of months and are now back where we began the year. It's as if the entire population of Reno cried out in terror and was suddenly ~~silenced~~ given a pink slip.

I'll pick up the DOOM! beat again next week in deeper detail since we'll likely be done beating on Weiner then. Obligatory Kitteh for humpy.

13 According to Sen. John McCain, Americans won't work at jobs in agriculture that pay 50K per year, bu they apparently line for jobs that pay $9.00 per hour.

And, personally, I've noticed a marked decrease in service quality.

What I was saying in the other thread. Our nominee really is irrelevant regarding beating Obama. All of them will win. The trick is picking one who will fix the mess Obama has left.

Presidents aren't reelected with this level of economic misery, and nothing that Obama WILL do, will improve things.

(Obama does have the power to change the game and acheive reelection, but that requires that he open up energy exploration and kill the alternative energy crap he has been spouting. But he won't.)

17 Bill D.- Not right away. The price of the ending of QE2 has already been baked into this mess. To me, it would be "unexpected". But If things go as badly as I think they will, by the fall the political panic may force it. And it's a terrible idea.

19 P/R/O killed the economy on 3/21/2010 when they passed the abomination commonly known as obamacare. The drilling moritorium, porkulus, epa threats to regulate CO2 etc contributed also to the death but that 2000 pages of crap was the fatal blow. And the economy aint going to recover until we destroy obamacare.

Dang, a new thread. Brief bit of DOOM.

As always, one of the main DOOM debates is whether the DOOM will be a long drawn out Japan DOOM or a sudden, even though we knew it was coming, where the hell did that come from type of DOOM.

I'm going to put my chips on fast DOOM when Spain can no longer be supported on whatever lies and crazy accounting they try after Greece and Portugal go belly up. Once Spain goes, the masks come off and we enter global Depression.
