Early Super Bowl Thread
— Monty

Apparently there is some sort of major sporting event taking place today. You may discuss it here.

UPDATE: I understand that it is traditional to post a photo of a cheerleader when posting about a hand-egg football contest. As I am nothing if not a giver, here you go:

Just turned to the local sports station (radio) and they're talking about a mass shooting at Youngstown State.

I'm right there with you, brother. Winter is nothing more than the long pause between the World Series and Spring Training.

Won't that be nice.  Means Spring is close.  Pretty excited about the Rockies chances this year as well.

And since Toonces is for the Steelers - GO PACKERS!!

Heh.  Cmon.  At least give it til June 1st or something.  I might have to get that baseball package.  Not many opportunities down here to catch the Rockies.

21 My Prayer: please God don't let the fucking Steelers win. Their bandwagon fans are an affront to your glory. Everyone of them will claim to be from Pittsburg too, a city of 300 thousand, 4th smallest NFL franchise in terms of area population somehow births people from California to DC. When you ask for their actual addresses, you will find out they came from some po dunk town 50 miles away, when they moved away at the age of four, and now lie about being "from Pittsburg". Please God don't let a rapist win another SB ring. Please God Steelers fans are some of the most obnoxupious bandwagon fans I have seen in a decade, make them lose so all the aholes I see around me that jumped the bandwagon and discovered some fifth cousin whose from Pittsburg and decided to decorate their cars with BRAND NEW SHINY Steelers gear looks like the douchebags they are when they lose. Please God in all your glory make it so.

43 The one place that a mass murderer knows that he'll meet no opposition is in one of the Liberals precious gun free zones; guaranteed to be nothing but helpless victims there.

The sane view on the subject was taken by Luby's cafeteria here in Texas. A mass killing at a Luby's helped bring in the concealed carry law in this state; a woman testified before the state legislature that she had left her gun in her car because she didn't want to carry illegally and couldn't shoot back. Luby's welcomes concealed carry holders as customers.

Fuck yeah! It's official. Also, the NY Post had a funny mention about J Lo and her Super Bowl plans. It was a very unflattering photo of her walking out of the Peninsula Hotel in a tight, short white dress, gloves and fur stole. It looked like she was grabbing her crotch, which looked like it was eating her outfit. The caption asked whether J Lo would bring "the white stuff" to the big game date with the Obamas. The current occupant of the White House gives it new meaning altogether, though he's certainly the least presidential ever.

what exactly would constitute an authentic "fan" of a team?

106 117 Well if you lived there for a short time and say you don't follow the sport that closely but now want to root for the team yes you are bandwagon jumping. Ask yourself this, if you had lived in Detroit for 6 months would you be rooting for the Lions right now? No you wouldn't cause they always lose. The reason you are a bandwagon jumper is cause you don't follow the sport and yet miraculously I am sure by total luck you pick a winning franchise to root for, and odds are you will go back to not caring the minute they start losing.

108 117 okay, so serious question:
what exactly would constitute an authentic "fan" of a team?

Personally, I don't get all worked up about it.

I think there are fans of the sport and and fans of particular teams.  I'm really more the former than the latter when it comes to pro football.  I grew up a Redskins fan - and converted my husband at the altar (from a Cowboys fan) - so that would be my "official" team, but the fact is I can enjoy virtually any football game and find a team whose style I prefer for any given game.  We've lived so many places that we have a several teams we follow.

A lot of the self-identified "authentic" fans tend to have a strong regional tie.  They're really often Chicago fans or Boston fans or Dallas fans.

I think "fake" fans are ones who are only interested in a team when they're winning and who really don't know the sport.

111 123 Of course Miss'80sbaby wants the male version of decadence, .

It's a legitimate question. Now, who's hot (skip who's not)?

Big Ben certainly has a way with the ladies.

113 I think I heard the cowgirls cheerleaders were going to perform since neither Pitt or GB had their own cheerleaders. I could be wrong since I'm usually drunk.

Watched it on our B/W TV.  Was a big Colts fan.  The picture of the QB bleeding was taken by a photographer here in NC who just died.

115 Well I want the Steelers to do well every year.  It's not like I give up on them when they aren't having a good year or something.

116 Shouldn't there be an l'homage to the greatest superbowl flick ever??? Yes, BLACK SUNDAY.

Which is already another reason I dislike the Steelers.

I still carry a torch for Marcus Allen based on a locker room interview I saw of him years ago.

I like A-Rodg.

He's been playing with his look a little bit. But the eyes are intense.

121 The thought of the Narcissist In Chief huddling with the Squish In Chief almost ruins Super Sunday.  BillbO is just like DumbO, they can NOT stand to not be The Story.
What makes it pathetic, is that BillbO is now becoming a tool of The FoOl.

123 ugh
if ever the practice of "below the fold" applied, it would be here, plus it would add to the joke. Put in a "read more" link before the pic- plus, it really uglies up the main front page, which is not really polite for a co-blogger to do to the owner's page.

Looked-up more about his career and I remember when he played against the Longhorns in the '05 Rose Bowl. We won by 1 point. Vince Young was still our QB then.

139 You know, contemplating the possibility that Kratos is actually a woman, I suddenly had a brilliant insight into human psychology: men become gay because of a doting mother and distant father. On the other hand, hot chicks turn lesbian because there is nothing hotter than a hot steaming vajajay teamed with an incredible pair of baboobshkas. Brilliant! *CoolCzech bows before his audience of fellow abject morons*

144 Meh. First, my local Fox station pre-empts Fox News Sunday for Superbowl hype, now Fox News (right after making certain that they told me who was coming up on Fox News Sunday) pre-empts it for the Reagan celebration.

All I can do is hope that I didn't miss an epic Brit Hume/Juan Williams steelcage smackdown.

Predictions:

Bill O'Reilly will mention himself at least 3 times in his interview.

152 My eyes, I am blinded by these pictures you guys have posted!!! I agree with posts above about pseudo Steelers fans. Since my husband has been a die hard Man of Steel (like 'em that way) his whole life, even when we lived in Dallas, I get tired of the pansies who jump on the train late. That said I cannot stand Ben the Rapist!!! Why oh why will they not get rid of him??

153 Heh.  Apparently right after the game on Glee they're going to shoot a cheerleader from a cannon across a football field.  Seems like a cheerleader deal that you can enjoy, Kratos.

Heather, love the Non Sequitur toon and the pic of the football player!

During the Ibama/IReilly interview (see what I did there?) I'll be harvesting my crops and clearing my property on Frontierville on FB.  That's tons more important.
