68 38 the new oddball crop of bin laden sympathizers is getting hilarious. theyre totally clueless as what to feel or think sometimes. its like their eyes are bulging out of their widdle headz.
I've had no less than 3 relatives post on FB about something the Dali Lama "hinted at". Didn't even SAY, mind you - just hinted at.   Now, how bizarre is it for people who were raised Catholic to be hanging on the words of a Tibetan monk, who almost told them that it's OK that Bin Ladin was killed by the US?   One of them also posted regarding the big debate on NPR about whether it's OK to celebrate the death of the worst terrorist the world has ever known.   I guess I got the good genes.   Anyway, like I said on the other thread, it's ironic how Barry's staunchest allies are conflicted about this, while his biggest opponents unreservedly applaud (despite it meaning a bump in the polls for him).

My level of cynicism is so high that I figure he decided to do it because he thinks we will get more terorist attacks.

I am not liking the new SEAL narrative started by Obama and now cranked up to 11 by the Obama media. Bob Woodwards article went so far as to say that SEALs usually killed everyone they encounter but were ordered specifically in this case not to kill women or children in the Osama crib unless they were armed or posed a threat but still two women were shot.

This is a bum wrap, everyone is talking about them like they are an assasination squad.

We are better educated on political matters than 98% of the population.  I'd say we are well outside the mainstream.

People who don't know the difference between a tax cut and a tax rate cut for just one example are probably easily fooled and easy prey for demagogues.  Even those who generally lean to the right.

Successfully washed a horse (I ended up having a very competent helper, so it was no biggie), planted a watermelon (Charleston Grey) in the garden, played a dozen "innings" of Wiffle golf with a buddy's grandson, watched the Kentucky Derby (great race, underdog surged from the middle late). Now I'm watching an episode of Monk with the wife, after which I'll tune into the Celtics/Heat Game 3 (must win for the good guys).

All in all, not a bad little Saturday.

Fox is reporting more on the Bin Ladin thing.

I have to laugh when they outline how they identified him, a process which included measuring the size of his eyes, and the distance between them.

Now, call me crazy, but didn't they say that the photo of his that they won't release is especially gruesome because one of his eyes was gone?

Anyway, go Celtics.

This is my first try with a watermelon. We had great (to my meager standards as a rookie) success with canteloupes last year, so I figured I'd expand our melon horizons. I still have a different variety of w-melon, canteloupe and (my wife's personal project) pumpkin seeds to plant.

My pet project is a tiny patch of corn. If I can get even one ear of delicious corn-on-the-cob out of it, I'll consider the project worthwhile.

Not suppose to be there as the times were not right then. One of their guys were captured and they were told to hold back. They listened and from scopes watched as a guy was stripped of his flesh. Do you think that most people could even understand this horror. She told me that he had nightmares from this and I know it sounds strange and probably far-fetched but I promise you ... these guys just do what they are ordered to do .. nothing more and nothing less. 83  My level of cynicism is so high that I figure he decided to do it because he thinks we will get more terorist attacks.

As much as I despise this guy I don't buy that, and neither should you. For one thing, your theory presupposes a level of planning and decisiveness that does not seem to exist with this president.

There is a story out there that says he was manipulated into it, partly be someone pointing out that the intel would inevitably leak, and he damn well didn't want to be caught red-handed with his thumb up his ass. That may or may not be BS, but what it shows is that there are multitude of ways that a "pull the trigger" result could come out of this WH, without the "courageous and gutsy" theme we've been sold. Perhaps some day it will come out what really happened. Is there even an executive order that he signed to give an explict order for this to happen? Someday that will come out. This is the guy they dragged off the golf course, remember?

I also get irritated by this idea that we shouldn't apprehend terrorists, because it will make them mad and they'll do more attacks. By that argument, we shouldn't have a police force, because it inspires other criminals to commit more crimes.

Two reasons.

One, they wanted to be sure.  How many times did we waste Chemical Ali before he was actually hanged?  There was no way to know if a pissed-off Paki government was going to let us in there for DNA samples after we flattened a house only 38 miles from the capitol.

And two, for the intel.  The SEAL team scooped up documents, five computers, and a bunch of hard drives.  All of which would have been spread over the surrounding area had we used a bomb (hellfires are too small for that kind of target).

Posted by: a goat at May 07, 2011 07:23 PM (Rwudm)

In a pitcher mix a cup or two of Epsom salts and crush Extra calcium tums into the water.  make sure most of it dissolves.

Then when you first replant the starters into ground/pot pour some of this water 1/3 pitcher in the bottom of the hole.

Then every week or two mix the stuff up again and pour at the base of the plants.

Works well on cucumbers (later in season) tom, peppers.

After my daughter poured it on my plants I was almost in tears.  I ran inside, googled it, and sure enough - people have been using these two things for years. It works so much better than M. Grow or even in conjunction with it.

I loved him and he loved his country .. G-d I am crying ... I hope this all ends soon for the SEAL guys ... they do so much and I just hope that they and all the military get the respect they deserve.

IIRC, Obama is said to have chosen the SEALs option because he was concerned about civilian casualties.

In other words, he was more concerned about the safety of bil Ladin's friends and family than he was about the safety of our SEALs.

So right call, wrong reason. The right reason is that we needed to be able to prove that we got him. So what do they do? Immediately bury him at sea, and withhold any pictures. We can prove to ourselves that we got him, via the DNA testing, but haven't really proven it to anybody else.

I could probably get away with chickens as long as the neighbors did not complain. But I kinda like the restrictions on farm animals here. Among other things they have managed to keep out those large hog farms that so overrun NC.

I found out about the farm animals when I bought the lot next to me and it was overrun with weeds. I wanted to get a goat and let the goat take care of the weeds (and any stray Muslims that came by).

309 Gross Point Blanke had some good scenes. Damn shame John Cusack went moonbat. I used to like him.

The scene where he kills the guy with the pen is like a real fight. Dirty and mean and nasty.

Great movie! Minnie Driver is smokin' and cool and Cusack plays it well.

My fave scene is when he visits the mini mart where his home used to be and has the shoot out with Eurotrash.

Yeah, it sucks that Cusack went tard but it's still a cool flick.

Better Off Dead is also a classic.

359 Oh, and I saw Thor also. Puzzling out why I don't like it more. 2 problems so far: SPOILERS BELOW, BUT NOT REALLY BIG ONES 1 - The character arc. Thor is arrogant and bellicose to start and not so much at the end. He better appreciates that there are "unknown unknowns," as Rumsfeld put it. Fine. How he gets there more or less works. But I have a couple gripes. First, he is stripped of godhood and exiled and even told, basically, he's responsible for his own father's death but we never really get the character stripped down to the wires. Maybe gods don't hit rock bottom or even feel depressed. But we see him go from charismatic price to really likable stranger in a world that doesn't seem so strange to him to a somewhat more mature charismatic prince. OK, but don't expect my emotional reaction to outstrip his emotional journey. Also, about Dad's death. This should have been utterly crushing but after the facial muscles relax, the guy is tossing down boilermakers with his girlfriend's father figure and carrying him home with a laugh to sleep it off while he spends some quality time with his mortal honey on the roof. Really? Maybe Vikings are used to death (although the whole "immortal" thing implies differently in this case) but even by those standards this would have been a "straw death" that denied his own father paradise. The lack of meaningful reaction was a problem for me. 2. Problems with the BFG. Really, if you trot out the hero's monster weapon, it is kind of a rule that your audience should covet it. Think about Jesse Ventura's mini-gun in Predator, for example. Or Conan's sword. Light sabers. Clint's 44 magnum. Mjolnir is nice enough as hammers go. It kicks up pavement admirably and doesn't look so ridiculous in flight that you would stay grounded. But in a world where such hammers exist, my arsenal would still feel satisfyingly complete without it. Unlike the mini-gun if I have aliens to fight in the jungle, a light saber if they pop up anywhere else, etc. The BFG is always a prop, but it is supposed to be something you would really want. Because it is an expression, as extension, of a character you want to be. Even if it is just for a little while. The link between Thor and the hammer is clear enough here, but it feels thin. Thor without the hammer is a charming guy from heaven. With the hammer, he's a charming guy from heaven with more more muscle and a cab whenever he needs it. And he can make wind. I can get the same from a brawny designated driver and Mexican food. (rim shot) Really, just as Thor's inner workings remain unknown and so he never connects fir me, his BFG is never more than a prop and, given its prominence, a bit of a distraction. It's not a bad movie at all and I suspect it played better on the page than the stage. It just doesn't deliver the grandeur the subject matter (gods in conflict!) and the director/cast teased me with. Quality-wise, it's Iron Man 2, not Iron Man. Potentially, a lot of elements here could be developed in the Avengers movie. If so, the movie is divided between being about payoff later (something I hated in Empire Strikes Back) and payoff now. On it's own merits, though, it's just OK.
