9 Because it needs to be posted again until we get a thread about it: http://fxn.ws/ocAU7N

The family of the murdered Border Patrol Agent was denied 'crime victim status' by the US Attorney.  From the same US Attorney office which oversaw Operation Fast & Furious (which, just as a coincidence, I'm sure, was the same BATF operation which put the guns in the murderer's hands- but I'm sure that had nothing to do with their reasoning).

While seeing this kind of discontent from a probable Obama/Dem voter is encouraging and shows the tension that Obama's more sane base must be feeling at the moment, it is but one step on a long path to our nation's "salvation".

The first step is admitting there is a problem.  The next step is determining ways to solve said problem;  FM did not give any ideas on how the government should "balance the F****** budget".  Would he be open to spending cuts (I mean, cut-cuts) to some of favored social programs, or would he go down the "soak the 'rich'" path?

Plural of ancedote =/= data etc.

I've noticed more and more people are willing to talk about this with little to no prompting from me and, to a person, everyone is all balance the damn budget! There's nothing more kitchen table accessible than understanding that I can't just up my credit limit whenever I want.  There may be huge disagreement as to what should be cut but the concept of stop spending so much damn money is fairly easily grasped.

Mind you, the liberal assclowns who flitter around me here in New England are still of the opinion that, "We have to spend money for the CHILDREN!"  They conveniently ignore the fact that we are, in fact, spending the children's money.  And the grandchildren's money.  And the GREAT-grandchildren's money...

Eh, I took that part of his rant  as the government doesn't pay their bills, why should I pay my bills to the government. That would include taxes, fees, etc.

What exactly do you think 'going Galt' is? If you barter labor for goods or goods for goods, you still owe taxes on the perceived value of your barter. Per the law.

I guess you could also phrase it as 'starve the beast'.

You don't stop bad behavior by doing it in turn.

Point of order: Yes you do.

Take war - following the Geneva conventions while your opponents don't does not 'lead by example' it takes away any incentive to bargain with us and set mutual limits.

London riots - stand down and get rolled over, or defend the neighborhood?

If I am punching you in the face, and you say 'hey, that's not nice! Please think about what you're doing!' I'm prolly just gonna hit you harder.

But if you punch me in the face back.... well I might stop. No one likes getting hit in the face.

Often stopping bad behavior requires exactly that - doing the same thing right back.

RE: the sidebar article about the idiot on the JetBlue flight who peed on an eleven-year old fellow passenger.   All you have to know about the guy is summed up in his statement:

"I was drunk, and I did not realize I was pissing on her leg,"

It's the inclusion of the "pissing" that gives it such a ring of class, don't you think?  I can tell he's really, really sorry for traumatizing an eleven year-old girl and forcing her to fly for five and a half hours with his "piss" all over her.

("Piss" is one of those words that I really hate.  I'll swear like a fucking sailor, but I just HATE that word.)

Also, I find it interesting that the guy is 18, yet he claims to have had EIGHT alcoholic beverages.  I guess being underage doesn't matter when you're buying your liquor in flight from Portland, OR, to JFK?

I went to Boston University law school.  It was every Ivy League undergrad's "safety" school.  (It was my affirmative action fallback - they refused to use AA.)  Those Ivy Leaguers?  Not terribly impressive.  My torts prof was Troy Brennan.  The guy makes MacGuiver look like Rutgers' most famous alumnus (Mr. Magoo).  Brennan gradumacated first in his class in law school at Yale, and med school at Yale, at the same time. (!)  He said that lawyers who went to middle tier schools generally ended up more successful than the Ivys.

From Lacey's link:

“Unless things change and Obama can run on accomplishments, he will have to kill Romney,” a prominent Democratic strategist aligned with the White House tells Politico.

And how exactly is Obama planning to do that? The president’s re-election team won’t simply focus on the usual knocks against Romney — including his flip-flops on abortion and other issues. They are going to hit Romney where it really hurts: They are going to make fun of his jeans.

Romney's response should be:  "Mr. President, please take this open umbrella and walk through that gate.  Take your time.  No rush."

Yeah, it would be hilarious to watch if it weren't for the whole actually being a super villian who actually freaking kills everyone who gets in his way.  Kinda takes the fun out of it.

123 Can someone explain to me, because I'm a moron, how by any reach of the imagination that unemployment insurance payments could create 1 million jobs? What it means is that they believe in "trickle down economics" now. That if they put the government's money in the hands of the unemployed, they will spend it on stuff, and that stuff will need to be made/provided by someone. Now, I am not going to say that there isn't *some* merit to the idea - but it seems like a pretty inefficient way to do it - and oh by the way is that the government's job in the first place? How about roll back some of the dumbass regulation and let people get off of unemployment - they'll get bigger paychecks and buy higher value items. Maybe let US producers produce oil and refine it into gasoline. Stop diluting the dollar's value so that the money they make is more useful.

124 Can someone explain to me, because I'm a moron, how by any reach of the imagination that unemployment insurance payments could create 1 million jobs?

The idea is that people who get unemployment $ would have no money to spend on things that it's other people's job to sell them, so that makes those (latter) people have jobs.

This of course ignores many things, but especially the part where all that $ is stolen from other people who'd also spend it.

Well, it doesn't ignore it, exactly. It assumes that because that money was stolen and skimmed by the government, it's magically touched-by-a-bureaucrat SuperMoney whose expenditure is more job-makey than regular spent money is.

That's it, really.

Economists of course use other words when explaining this dumb idea, but the dumb is the same.
