— LauraW “Our American institutions have been friendly to her, and at this moment, I esteem it a chief felicity of this country, that it excels in women.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Cathy over at Innocent Bystanders recently met Allen West and put up a report about her experience. Please go on over and visit. There are pictures.
One thing to know about this lady; she is ON FIRE to save this country from our ruinous path. She is committed, she is passionate, and she is delightful and lovely too. I have personally seen her confront strangers with the Tea Party message. She is direct and firm and persuasively pleasant, never bitter or enraged.
If you look at the ranks of the Tea Party, you will see that it is chock-a-block with ladies in leadership roles. It has often been noted that it takes an awful lot to rile conservatives to massive political action. But a sleeping giant has been awakened. And his wife is PISSED.
H/T scott.
And thanks to
Rosetta for the Emerson quote.

Why do so many women want to take healthcare away from children and force grandma to eat cat food?

NOW works feverishly to destroy conservative women, and to cover up the misogyny inherent in many of the Left's most popular cultural voices. <.< Maher is but one example.
Palin '12, or nothin'. No one else can do it. No one else has the audacity.

It's been a long journey from ideologically-lazy leftism as a college English teacher to someone who will spontaneously show contempt for the utter dissociation of personal responsibility from whatever bill is being pushed by the Dems. Indeed, the first adult glimmering happened in class as she was forced to teach remedial 8th grade English to most every student.
That said, she is still wandering a little lost politically, most everyone she was friends with during her march through higher education, or who mentored her and she therefore holds a great deal of professional and personal respect for, are of course Liberal to the bone.

I can confirm that in my own household: Mrs. Cop went from being apolitical to being even more of a rabid conservative than I am. Hell, she routinely listens to "Savage Nation" and I can't work up the enthusiasm she has for Michael Savage.
I guess we can mark this trend on President B+'s short list of accomplishments that have had a positive affect for the nation.

I don't think that's really what's going on with conservative men.

As one of the bitter, old white guys, smeared & booted out the door for, first the women then green card minorities, over pay, it's a most welcome development to have appealing, intelligent, devoted, multitasking women joining the ranks in opposition to government.

Yes, the Tea Party movement has some fantastic female leaders. But when it comes to politics, women generally are left-leaning, overemotional, uninformed, and extremely lazy thinkers.
The upside is that their ignorance makes them ideal candidates to flip to conservatism.
I was able to flip mine and it was pretty easy--I just got her tuned in to what was happening. Once I filled in the gaps for her, she mostly came to her own conclusions.
It's not an intelligence thing--it's a paying attention thing. It's also a naivety thing. I think women tend to trust authority a lot more than men and also seem to be more willing to believe that there are people out there in the political world who just want to "do good."
As far as I'm concerned, it's every conservative husband's patriotic duty to make sure his wife understands what the fuck is going on in this country (assuming she already doesn't) and make sure she votes accordingly.
Since I've already done this, I'm now working subtly on my sister-in-law who is recently married and just had a baby and is now finding out just how fucking expensive it is to raise kids in this economy.
So I'm always pointing out the CRUSHING effect taxes have on our personal finances. I don't get overtly political, I just point out that all these goodies COST money and that the burden is borne by people like her and me, not the ones who mostly benefit.
Nothing turns a woman into a conservative like motherhood. Well, that is if she happens to be married and self-supporting instead of single and sucking on the government titty.
Oh, and Big Giant Disclaimer: I'm not indicting all women here. I'm just relaying what I observe. I know that there are many smart, engaged conservative women who have done far more than I have to push this country in the right direction.
Posted by: Warden at April 04, 2011 07:08 AM (fVIlG)
Once they get their sights set on something, they are absolutely relentless.
And do you know what they advocate for like nothing else? Their kids.
Every married guy knows what I'm talking about. Wife wants a new swing set for the tykes, but you think it's an expensive, pain-in-the-ass overindulgence that will barely get used? Well good luck.
You aren't going to stop hearing about it until you get ground into a tiny nub and finally give in. She will use every dirty trick at her disposal -- guilt, hyping the purchase to the kids like it's already a done deal, getting her mother involved, questioning your commitment to your kids' happiness ...
The drive and the commitment is unnerving. Never fuck with a mom when she's advocating on behalf of her children. Never! She'll tear your shit up.
So I guess the best way to mobilize women for conservatism is to convince them that the future of their children is in peril. If we can do that, we have a fighting political force equivalent of Sparta.

Whatever else, it shapes up to be an interesting turn in political events -- think of it: a massive, national cat fight.
And who knows what side women will fall on: I've seen some interesting developments in the last few weeks.
Watching some women get drawn into a very nasty confrontation and essentially switching sides is interesting to say the least.

Warden, I met Michele Bachmann and have heard her speak several times. I will tell you that she is this^kind of woman... business woman, tax attorney, mom, decent, charming, focused but kind, sense of humor, and dang good looking too.
Assuming that a woman is first and foremost emotional, probably humorless, and therefore not viable... well you know what they say about assumptions. Emotional and humorless sounds more like a lefty of either gender.

Good point Warden,
About women being liberal by default and not paying attention: that was me a decade ago. Another observation: there's a correlation between how hot a woman is and the amount of stupid that can she can spew unchallenged. I can recall conversations with very smart young men- the ideas I had, honestly my eyes would roll out of my head if I had to listen to myself today.
Of course, when I was the one being flattered, I didn't notice that the more I praised the genius of Michael Moore, the more my co-conversationalist would be staring at my rack while he nodded that Oliver Stone's JFK really made you think, you know?
When I started dating my now-husband, he wouldn't back down and forced me to defend my positions. It took a few months for me to start realizing that my entire world view was based on emotional assertions, and I didn't have any real principles or facts. I started reading political blogs initially looking for ammo for my ideological battles with Mr. Paint, which were incredibly fun (even though I didn't seem to win much).
Oh, also I came from a liberal family because it was more important to be nice than to be right. They were horrified at my transformation to a social-libertarian fiscal-conservative who made fun of their unrealistic ideas and had a lot more information to back it up. They have come around now though.
