— andy The Climategate 2.0 emails continue to produce some really great examples of scientists, or maybe that should be "scientists", behaving badly. There's so much, in fact, that it's hard to pick ones to excerpt. "Target rich environment" is an understatement.
Anthony Watts has two excellent summary threads (here and here) that chronicle the discoveries coming out of this latest batch of over 5,000 email messages. And, as always, Steve McIntyre's Climate Audit is an indispensable resource. (Aside: If I were president, my first executive order would be to turn over to McIntyre every shred of climate research ever conducted on behalf of the taxpayer. Not sure we're going to get that from AGW believer-of-convenience Mitt or couch-sittin' Newt).
What strikes me as most interesting about the emails is how focused the coterie of warmist scientists are on keeping any dissenting papers from seeing the light of day. Other scientists and journal reviewers are fair game if it looks like they're not devoted to "the cause".
And of course this makes sense, given that the entire AGW scam relies on Consensus Science™. The declines have to be hidden and the data can't be questioned because shut up.
Here's just one example. Pat Michaels at Cato is a thorn in their side, so they tried to have his PhD stripped. Michaels turns the tables:
Everyone agrees that the tone and content of many of [the Climategate emails] is a bit shrill and occasionally intolerant (kind of like University faculty meetings), but there is one repeating thread, by one of your most prestigious employees, Dr. Tom Wigley, that is far beyond the pale of most academic backbiting. The revoking of my doctorate, the clear objective of TomÂ’s email, is the professional equivalent of the death penalty. I think it needs to be brought to your attention, because the basic premise underlying his machinations is patently and completely false. Dr Wigley is known as a careful scientist, but he certainly was careless here.
Unconvinced scientists need not apply. There's a consensus to be manufactured, don't you know. Here's Minnesotans for Global Warming's take on it (via Climate Audit):
No word on whether thin-skinned fraud (hmmm ... who does that remind you of?) Michael "Piltdown" Mann has threatened to sue them again. Censor this, punk!:
Until the science is conducted out in the open, the claims of the warmists can't be taken seriously. It's as simple as that.

Sunoco Inc. announced it will begin shutting down its Marcus Hook refinery Friday - a move expected to affect 500 jobs - because of declining financial returns, company officials said.
“Market conditions have deteriorated significantly and the outlook for both motor fuel demand and refining margins remains weak,” Sunoco Inc. Chairman and CEO Lynn Elsenhans said. “Our retail and logistics businesses are performing well, but given the negative realities of the Northeast refining marketplace, we need to accelerate the timeline for idling our Marcus Hook processing units.”
Dave Miller, president of the United Steelworkers Union Local 10-901, representing about 300 of the 590 employees at the Delaware County facility, expressed his discontent with the decision.
“I’m extremely, extremely disappointed that they did not honor their commitment to us,” he said about the initial summer closure deadline.”(Elsenhans is) going to leave this area to be devastated.”
Company spokesman Thomas Golembeski said approximately 100 of the 590 jobs are expected to be retained with 65 people being offered redeployment elsewhere throughout the company and 35 remaining at Marcus Hook for ongoing operations and retail support.
He added that of the 490 jobs lost, 100 workers are eligible for retirement.
In September, company executives announced that the Marcus Hook and Philadelphia refineries would be closed by July if a buyer wasnÂ’t found for the facilities because of the poor financial performance of the refining sector.

Im really kinda stunned this is all working. Lets see how this all goes. The"space bar" is kinda wacky.
oh,and AGW is bullshit and Thats why i can never vote for NOOT. How can a smart person fall for that crap? so that leaves me thinking that he cynically pushed it for some personal gain of his own. I cant bring myself to vote for people who have zero integrity.

All it takes is some prosecutor with an appreciation of intellectual integrity to find thousands of acts of wire fraud and the like among this bunch of scientologists. The fact that it is federal money should make it fairly easy to put any of them behind bars for the rest of their lives, if one was so inclined to pursue that legitimate end.
But, this is like them claiming that there are no laws to hold Congresscritters and their staff to the same sorts of insider trading laws as others. That is rich, as government insiders are the innermost sorts of insiders possible - with their staff representing the lowest sorts of leeches possible, and with no legal protections, so far as anyone with any sense would surmise.
I'm sure JeffB will be along to explain to us all how stealing is not really "stealing" in court and how lay interpretations can be so misleading ...

The pyramids were pretty close, so far as wasting resources. But, at least they were still building something - more artistic than useful, but something. The CAGW loons just want to destroy everything and leave a planet without any sign of man's existence or history of having existed. They hit this peak note in that immensely ridiculous car commercial (Toyota? Honda?) where they got to the point at the end where they said that "the best impact is having no impact at all" or something equally nihilistic.

Sorry to go OT/
Former New Jersey Gov. Christie Todd Whitman, who is leading a group to draft a third-party presidential candidate, is encouraging Jon Huntsman to make an independent bid for the White House.
“I would hope he would do it, frankly. He’s someone that I would support,” Whitman said Friday in an interview with POLITICO.
Whitman, a Republican, said a third-party effort by Huntsman is the way to go because she believes it’s unlikely he has much of shot at the GOP nomination. “I don’t see that kind of traction unless he can pull off a surprise in New Hampshire, where independents are allowed to vote,” she said.
Why would a republican ask for another to go Third party?

I read the post at the "Watts Up", and the included trigger e-mail by Dr. Tom Wigley.
The e-mail attributed to Wigley includes statements that Wigley attributes to Pat Michaels, apparently in Michaels' dissertation/research that are denied outright by Michaels.
Who is telling the truth? The answer lies in Michaels' dissertation/research.
Perhaps a severely detailed investigation of Wigley, and his past work, is in order.
