Bumped
— Open Blogger You may wonder why I keep writing posts like this. "Surely these Global Warming advocates have no credibility anymore! This is a dead issue."First off, don't call me Shirley.Second, even though a large and growing part of the general public has had it with the Global Warming movement, many of our leaders and wannabe leaders still buy into it! Entrenched bureaucrats make decisions based on this. Light Bulbs. Light Bulbs! So it's not enough to be skeptical about the GW movement, you have to crush it.Therefore even though I consider this a dead horse, I still beat it.Here's a couple of stories you should know about that need a little more space than the sidebar. There's been a lot of speculation recently about the effects of cosmic rays on global weather. The idea is that cosmic rays create little specks of crap in the upper atmosphere which promote cloud formation. And that cloud formation has an impact on the Earth's temperature. And increases in cosmic rays could lead to more clouds. It's reasonable to want to know more about this if you want to understand current and future climate.CERN is working on this. However the director of CERN has issued an unusual edict to researchers.
CERN Director General Rolf-Dieter Heuer told Welt Online that the scientists should refrain from drawing conclusions from the latest experiment."I have asked the colleagues to present the results clearly, but not to interpret them,"...The unusual "gagging order" could have been issued because the results of CLOUD are really, really boring, muses Calder. Or, it could be that the experiment invites a politically unacceptable hypothesis on climate.
(use the comments to insert your own sarcastic comment at this point)
The rest of the linked article has a pretty graphic showing cosmic rays making little specks of crap and a chart comparing cosmic ray little speck of crap creation and temperature. Then there's this short article in Forbes about the lack of global warming over the last 15 years. Not a lot new to readers of this blog but I wanted to highlight something. He's talking about the idea the Chinese sulphate emissions have counteracted expected Global Warming.
The United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which grants itself climate authority, states that our "Level of Scientific Understanding" of the effects (of the sulphate aerosols) range between "low" and "very low,..."
And There We Go. If you're going to ask us to do things like spend 40 trillion dollars over the next 30 years to reduce emissions, I'd like a better understanding of what the hell goes on in the atmosphere than "low to very low".
Rest of the article has interesting things such as - if Chinese emissions are cooling things off why is it that most of the cooling is in the Southern Hemisphere while the emissions are in the Northern?

Maybe the cosmic ray guy is smart enough to realize that a crapload of so-called geniuses have stuck their tenured dicks into the pencil shapener, and he doesn't want to share that particular bonding experience. Especially since his area of expertise sounds like a comic book based upon Ray Charles as a crime fighting, piano playing blind superhero.

I know that it's hot this year, but really, does no one remember 1980? It's really not that bad.
Besides, I still need to bake the cold from this winter out of my bones.
My real issue with the Warmists is: why do I care? Higher global temperatures might (but only might, we're not sure) inconvenience people in coastal areas, but over all, warmer weather means a longer growing season, which means more food for people, which means less starvation.
I thought less starvation was a good thing.

Not if it means more people.
But here is the real problem for the warmists. They claim they worry about the Maldive Islands going under because of sea level rise. But that just ain't happening.
If AGW was a real problem, real estate in the Maldives would be a real bargain. It isn't. In fact, it is just the opposite.

You know, I've got CFLs for my livingroom and my bedroom- but they just don't fit in that many of my outlets- so they suck.
Also, they don't cut down all that much on my electricity, since I leave the lights off whenver possible (including when I'm in the room if there's enough light coming in through the windows)- so they suck.
Finally, they don't actually last as long as advertised, and they're far more expensive than that "19th century technology"- not to mention hazardous to your health if you drop one and it breaks- so they end up costing me more in the long run. So they suck.
So, since CFLs suck, I want to be able to buy affordable lightbulbs that don't suck. If you want to buy more expensive lightbulbs that do suck, that's your business.

All intercontinental jetliners have multiple fuel tanks. During take-off, reaching cruise altitude, descent and landing, they would use tanks with low-sulfur jetfuel.
But at cruise altitude, flying in the lower stratosphere at 35,000Â’ or higher, switching to tanks with high-sulfur jetfuel would create denser, wider contrails with sulfate aerosols serving as cloud condensation nuclei, mimicking the effect of cosmic rays. The clouds so created would be long-lasting, and brighter with a high albedo reflecting more sunlight back into space.
Thousands of jetliners flying high over the planet every day would create a cooler earth, and no more global warming. The sulfate aerosols are high enough in the stratosphere not to precipitate and cause acid rain - and high-sulfur jetfuel is less expensive than low-sulfur.
This solution to global warming isnÂ’t just cost-free, it saves money. ItÂ’s perfectly designed to drive human-hating eco-fascists completely nuts.
ItÂ’s a solution too good for rational conservatives to pass up. Even the ones in Congress.

The problem I have with this argument (I don't know specific to the Maldives, but I've heard the same thing said about coastal California and Florida) is Federal Flood Insurance.
There is no risk involved in building on the coast, so even if GW is true and your house gets swept away by the rising sea levels, the American Taxpayer will just subsidize your new house anyway. And it's not like you won't have plenty of warning that the problem is coming.

I have it on pretty strong authority that the guy who accidentally coined the term "global warming" says he didn't want to imply it was all for the warmer, and that since the trouble is in adding energy to just stir the pot in general, it should have been called "global weirding." This change in terminology is spreading quickly, and it would behoove the forces of sane science to adjust the attack to match.

Okay, just because the stupid is too strong...
Point 1- Republicans were only in control for 6 years of that (really 5, but who's counting?)- so, if it was so bad, why didn't Democrats de-fund it? They kept calling for us to come home anyway- they could have put (or not put, as the case may be) our money where their mouths were.
Point 2- Medicare Part D (while I hate it) has actually come in under budget by every analysis I've seen.
Point 3- How retarded are you? Wait, I'm sorry. I know people with real Mental Retardation, and they wouldn't fall for that crap, you sub-literate sponge-fungus. Tax rates between about 18 - 35% don't move tax receipts as a percentage of GDP by any statistically significant amount. Indeed, lower tax rates tend to boost GDP- which then raises those receipts as an absolute number. Therefore there is no such thing as an "unpaid for tax cut." Further, that would assume that money was already the Government's by right- and it isn't. It's mine because I had to work for it.

Medicare drug benefit- the one that King Putt will protect via veto if it is touched in any GOP written budget proposal.
"Unpaid for tax cuts"- first, taxes are not "paid for"- they are our money until the gov't rips the money away from us- ergo, your premise is bogus. Second, Obama fought to extend these tax cuts, and they were passed by a Dem controlled Senate so who again are you blaming here?

Re: that CERN story: I'm ok if the direct doesn't want his people 'intrepreting' the results so long as the details of the results themselves are published. There are plenty of people out there who are capable of interpreting scientific findings. The problem with the AGW movement has always been that they have refused to show the details (in violation of the scientific method, I might add). AGW science reminds me of Dark Ages 'science' where everything was referred to an authority (to hell with actual observation), the Church at first and then later Plato. I don't like that we're being dragged back into that mode.

To be accurate, it was the Church that first dragged Europe, kicking and screaming, into paying attention to the scientific method and evidence-based inquiry. I'm not a huge fan of the Catholic Church, but I'm not going to suggest they were as obdurate about such things as modern thought would have you believe.

I particularly liked Ann Coulter's remark from a few years ago:
"Liberals believe that you can change the temperature of the ocean by flipping a light switch."
And who can forget the silly competition between Reynolds and Kos as to how many readers would commit to changing to CFL's?
Sure, I have CFL's in my house, and they last somewhat longer than regular incandescents, but so what? The electrical savings are really about nil.
The effect on the baseload power consumption in this country with respect to CFL usage is about nil. Because people are math and engineering illiterate and impaired. The effect on the required power output to maintain the AC current in high tension transmission lines cannot be affected by changing light bulbs from incandescent to CFL's. Not possible.
Shut down steel mills and aluminum smelters - sure. It's Obamanomics.
The global warming hysteria is not dead. I get daily e-mails (in technical journals) about
1) Going "green"; green technology, windmills, yada, yada, yada.
2) CO2 sequestration - hugest waste of money imaginable
3) Global warming updates - are the Maldives under water yet?
This will never die, because there are too many rice bowls to be filled.

Enjoy your new higher electric bills.
Oh, and BTW, all the new, more efficient bulbs (including incandescents) are already out - so don't be fooled into buying those. Be a true American and insist on only certified 19th century technology!

Thanks JEA for your concern about the lighting I choose to use in my house. By that I mean you can go hang.
Congratulations to the House Republicans for respecting the rights of the people to live their lives how they want.

Though you may have a point about the wars on borrowed money, I see you left out the unfunded and unconstitutional wars out of your war equation. Could it be that you are selective about who's spending the money on wars? JEA's Credibility: Zero.
If it were up to me I would have conducted the war on a much more cost effective basis but you wouldn't like that either. So your solution is weakness and subservience. The second choice that is politically correct is the nation building crap and pseudo-COIN with idiotic ROEs that cost so much in American lives and treasure.
Furthermore, the Tax Cuts aren't things that are paid for, it's the things the government decides to buy that have to be paid for. Fool.
The problem is the spending, not the taxing.
But you're one those who believe that it's all the government's money, but they let us keep some. So the relation between you and the government isn't one of a citizen, it's one of a slave. You are a very weak person.

"two ten-year wars on borrowed money. "
Why yes, I think your Messiah has done that. And added 6 more to the mix. Wait. The DimTards great accomplishment - Pay Go. Never used once.
And shit, Obama has been handicapped by those evil BusHitler tax cuts. Same as Oblunder, but Bush's biggest deficit was $400 billion. Odipshit's - $1.6 trillion.
But, but, but. Sorry that $1.1 trillion Porkulus isn't included in that last figure. Nor the vast majority of TARRP/Obama saving and rewarding his largest contributors. Sorry, Bush had no idea how corrupted Obamaoist could make it.

To SEE the effect, check out "Cloud Chamber."
These gizmos were early methods to actually SEE the tracks of ionizing radiation (alpha particles, beta, yes, even cosmic rays) inside a little jar., with the NAKED EYE.
They worked by the particle MAKING CLOUDS (ok, fog as tiny contrails) inside the jar's atmosphere.
Yes, let's stiffle historical nuclear physics, by all means, in service of the global climate change mission.

Chinese Sulfate Emission:
Back in the 1970's The soot from coal electric plants was the Environmental pollution problem of the day. The companies built taller smoke stacks and installed scrubbers to control the soot. This cleaned out the basic components for the exhaust from power plants leaving the sulfer still there. Now the sulfer was the main compontent in the Next Environmental Issue "Acid Rain". This made sulfer and other molecules containing it bad guys.
Mercury from coal is bad but in the new lightbulbs just forget about it.
Today we have Low Sulfer Diesel Fuel to curb pollution issues so that the exhaust will meet Federal regulation for Diesel engines. Sulfer in the fuel acted as a lubricant for the fuel pump and fuel injectors which will now go bad.
Environmentalist dont look at what the Unintended Consequences are of the issue they are against. They see the hear and now. To fix the unintended consequences requires more government regulation. All of which cost you and me more money.
