— Ace Frank Miller doesn't like barbarians threatening civilization much.
EverybodyÂ’s been too damn polite about this nonsense:
The “Occupy” movement, whether displaying itself on Wall Street or in the streets of Oakland (which has, with unspeakable cowardice, embraced it) is anything but an exercise of our blessed First Amendment. “Occupy” is nothing but a pack of louts, thieves, and rapists, an unruly mob, fed by Woodstock-era nostalgia and putrid false righteousness. These clowns can do nothing but harm America.
“Occupy” is nothing short of a clumsy, poorly-expressed attempt at anarchy, to the extent that the “movement” – HAH! Some “movement”, except if the word “bowel” is attached - is anything more than an ugly fashion statement by a bunch of iPhone, iPad wielding spoiled brats who should stop getting in the way of working people and find jobs for themselves.
This is no popular uprising. This is garbage.
By the way, Occupy Portland is getting ready to riot. A protester tipped off police that other protesters were stockpiling stones, gathering boards with nails in them, and even digging a trench-line for a pitched fight.
Portland will be evicting them tonight, supposedly.

As one becomes an adult and takes on personal responsibility, one of the first lessons learned is the difference between a want and a need. This is a lesson that none of these regressive people have learned.
These lay-abouts, professional students, and welfare careerists aren't doing this for their needs. They are doing this for their childish fantasy-world wants.
They should fail and will fail because what they're doing is so far removed from being noble; it is a temper-tantrum. The only reason they can squat in parks and sit around for months banging on drums is because a) it is not an inconvenience in their already unproductive/noncontributing lives, and b) it is purely by choice rather than necessity.

The Right assumes the Left is strictly in sympathy with the OWS crowd. I am beginning to suspect I also see some pandering from the loons in charge.
It also fits with my translation of the Left when they pillory any political conflict or even a war. I believe they are just saying that if there's a fight, they are going to hide in the back room.

Miller didn't take Batman out of 'Holy Terror.' DC Comics owns the character and chickened out when it got too rough for them. Note that they didn't mind in the past when Miller did stuff at least as nasty from a left-wing approach.
I've never seen any indication of Miller feeling any regret for his depiction of Reagan or his ridiculous stance in the Martha Washington series. He is a perfect example of a liberal who got mugged by 9/11.
Another time DC got cold feet and killed a storyline was in Swamp Thing. Rick Veitch (who is a lunatic Truther these days) had an arc where the Swamp Thing was dislocated in time and trying to find his way back to the 'present' while getting pushed farther and farther back in history. One issue called for him to be present at the Crucifixion. In fact, since he manifested in plant life the idea was that he would actually be the crucifix and share in Jesus' suffering and helping fight off temptation. Some people got very worked up over this and DC killed it, causing Veitch to depart and a very clumsy reworking of the remaining portion of the storyline.
An interesting aspect of this is that this arc was designed to take advantage of various DC characters from past eras and DC had a character who was a Roman legionnaire present at the Crucifixion. This character, whose name escapes me, went back decades but somehow wasn't cause for controversy.

Given Wiscon's disinviting of Elizabeth Moon over the very mildest of criticisms of Islam, I'm guessing the latter.

Alex at 130 - Iremember a year or two before the housing crash started there was a thread here at the HQ that turned into a debate about housing finance. It was in the summer and was one of the first mult-ithousand comment threads I had seen.
A few people were going way out to defend the view that you could just keep flipping, borrowing and refinancing. The view borrow, pay just the interest, and when the loan comes due get another loan for even more money - and expect to keep doing it forever because prices were on a one way climb was prevelent, to the extent that a few commentors were calling anyone who was not doing so a chump.

Anybody remember that issue of Captain America a couple years ago, where they were gonna have Cap denouncing a Tea Party-like that was simply expressing freedom of speech? I remember Marvel needing to perform a quick change because of the backlash and the writer (Ed Brubaker, I think it was him anyway) whining about the intent being misunderstood. So thumbs up to Frank, who not only expressed his opinion but wasn't a weenie about it.

The hippie marchers are on the move towards Andalusia, PA, having crossed the NJ/PA border over a river. Currently, they are outside Levittown, PA. per their GPS tracker.
They have covered about one-third of today's trek, a total distance of 15 miles per their website, but 20 miles per point-to-point Trenton to Andalusia on googlemaps.

Just because a comic mocks Saint Ronnie does not mean it is Left.
In DKR's case, the primary concern of the book was that there were no supervillains - corresponding to Murder, Inc. and the Mob - but that there were, instead, nihilistic urban gangs. The concern in the middle 1980s from those of us who lived in cities at the time, was "crime". "Crime" was overlooked in Democratic-run cities and actively encouraged by the local Democratic leadership, by which I mean Al Sharpton and his like. Up the chain of command, there's the leadership of the state --- oops, quite often, that was Democratic too. The buck eventually stops at the Oval Office.
DKR's critique of Reagan was that he was hampering Batman from doing his job. I don't know that Reagan did actively hamper crimefighting. However, as of, I suspect, 1984, Reagan had pretty much given up on that whole "decade of crime victims" and concentrated more on winning the Cold War.
In short: DKR's critique of Reagan was from the Right. We can argue that it was blinkered - that the cities are the locals' responsibility and not the Federal Government's. Maybe that's true in the case of New York. I can think of some other cities, though.

I think 55 Days at Peking is one of Heston's under-rated movies.
The opening as eash embassy band plays each nation's anthem and one Chinese asks the other what the noise means. The other replies, "They all are saying the thing. We want China."
And David Niven is priceless when he utters, "It doesn't take a military genius to crawl through sewers." Great movie.

Since I had to go to bed last night before the raid on the St. Louis Obamaville, I drove by Kiener Plaza after work today at 4 pm.
I am happy to announce that St. Louis is no longer under occupation. All the tents were removed. A few dispirited hippies were standing around, and a few more were down by the courthouse trying to make bail for the folks who chose to get arrested last night. The city power-washed the Plaza and started putting up Christmas decorations. It was a beautiful evening, with lots of normal folks walking around, and the horse-drawn carriages beginning their routes.
As someone who camps, I hold out a thread of hope that some of these dupes will go home, take a hot shower, and go to sleep in a bed, inside a safe climate-controlled structure where your every material need is taken care of, and be just a llittle bit grateful for the comforts western society provides. It might be their first time to feel gratitude. I know as much as I like to camp, I always appreciate the comfort of my house when I get home.

Ummm, dude, if you actually do become a gourmet chef, most of the people you'll be cooking for aren't in the 99% as you understand it...
Also, L'Ecole Culinaire isn't in the city. Most of these idiots weren't, but they felt fine with intimidating city residents from using parks that their taxes pay for.

I work with a gal who I refer to as "two face". Like the Seinfeld episode.
Certain days, when she is dolled up she is a solid 8, but than others days she's barely a 7. Her looks swing pretty wildly, which is unusual.
She's in her mid thirties, so I'm sure she turned many heads back in her early 20s. Her southern accent adds to the package. Unfortunately for her, she's a divorced mom at this point and probably won't attain the level/ quality of man her looks could once easily attract.

So I had a "get off my lawn" moment yesterday. I was trying to decide if it was worth the six bucks to go see Tower Heist so I was looking for reviews. The first one I pulled up made it sound "ok," but what struck me was how the reviewer was talking up Ben Stiller like he was some big star and then went on to comment about how nice it was to see Eddie Murphy, who was known for Doctor Doolittle, in a more serious role. I almost fell off my chair. Then I saw that the byline was from some college journalism student. Egads.

Nothing wrong with not being the prettiest person in the world. Beauty is only skin deep.
But ugly goes all the way down to the bone!
Which made it more insulting to me as an actual African chick.
Yeah but you are pretty hot. 3 or 4 points higher on the looks scale than Obama. (shes an age adjusted 4 or 5)

This contradicts what some have said up-thread. Attitude shows through on your face and can be attractive or repellant.
There was an article in the Daily Mail recently about some celebrity froo-froo thingy that was attended by Sinead O'Connor and Deborah Harry. Despite her short hair, Ms O'Connor is quite pretty. The best photo of her was a close up of her wearing a genuinely happy smile. She was smoother twenty years ago, but I found her more recent pictures much more attractive.

Yesterday in St. Louis, the hippie line was "The First Amendment is our permit."
Well, yeah, it used to be. Then entitled freaks took advantage, and crime shot through the roof, and people started suing people left and right. They used to teach that idea as "the tragedy of the commons."
...and now cities require permits and insurance to protest, and we have curfews. Liberal actions have consequences. These guys were allowed to flout the law for 6 weeks with no consequences. I hope the authorities have learned the lesson for next year. This was only a rehearsal.

I opted out of going through a naked scanner at Phoenix. The TSA woman assigned to feel me up was very professional. Funny, though--she said "You know, those machines don't put out all that much radiation(!)." I replied, "I'm not worried about the radiation, I'm worried about my Fourth Amendment rights." She said "oh," and just finished what she was doing.
I've been told by my work that they're sending me to Omaha for a short trip. I'm trying to convince them to let me drive. Let's see: get to the airport two hours early, park the car, ride the shuttle, get your boarding pass, stand in line to be felt up, then a scary uncomfortable 2-hour flight, then another hour to get off the plane, get your stuff, and get the rental car.
...or I could drive 6 and a half hours and rest when I want and have good tunes.
Decisions, decisions...

Listening to the Denver live stream, when I heard the chants:
'We are' 'WE ARE'
'The 99%' 'THE 99%',
all I could think of was the recruitment scene in Blazing Saddles:
'I' 'I'
'State your name' 'STATE YOUR NAME'
These idiots have no idea their oh so serious view of themselves is fodder for humor.

The 'wandering jew' origin is only one of several. They did an issue of Secret Origins about twenty years ago where the Phantom Stranger had four different origin stories, with the added suggestion that all and none of them were true.
And it wasn't Alpha Centurion. He was created about fifteen years after the Swamp Thing story in question and decades after the character first appeared.

I call bullshit. I bought those when they were published and read them repeatedly. Reagan is plainly depicted as similingly instigating WWIII. But then, in this universe the President can call on Superman, raising the question of why the Soviets were even allowed to get to that point.
IT was a great internal contradiction of the book that Miller liked the idea of an individual going vigilante but not a duly elected public official standing up to evil.
Also, look at the Martha Washington books Miller did not long after Dark Knight. Those took a very left wing approach to the issues of South and Central America. Remember that lefties in the 80s were convinced that the next Vietnam was going to be in Nicaragua.

The outlandishness of the charges lent even more credibility to them , at least in Ace's mind. Hell Cain was supposed to refute the charges detail by detail to satisfy Ace ...
And of course Gloria Allred is the Good Housekeeping seal of approval on any allegations.
