Our leadership says he is the best we got, and he is fit for active service.

12 It's ALL a setup for massive tax hikes and new taxes so they can spend even MORE money!

Now they can say "See we cut spending so now we get to raise taxes".

You KNOW this is what's going to happen.

And The Weeping Boner will go right along with it cause hey, it isn't going to matter to him and his portfolio/gold bullion/dacha or his connections to corporate biggies who'll supply him with a sinecure when/if he gets unelected.

36 what are our options? what do we do as americans? how many can wait out 6 more years of this?

Posted by: willow at April 12, 2011 04:10 PM (h+qn8)

37 Yes, it sucks. Yes, it should be more. And, yes, it's the first budget cut of any kind in 50 years. So heap on all the sarcasm, but the fact is that the only thing that will get 1.5 trillion cut quickly is financial collapse. And we get that if Boner does nothing. So the worst case is pretty much guaranteed. And that guaranteed worst case is the only tool we have to get Washington to move. I think you're too doom and gloom. It's too easy to point out what's wrong when you don't have a hand in making it right. Boner has accomplished something never accomplished before and that's worth more credit than you give it. If Ryan's plan passes is all forgiven? If he ends up cutting 4 trillion over the next ten years instead of 6.2 will it be a failure? Will continued cuts not be possible? Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was it torn down in a day.

43 If the debate has actually shifted, Boehner I suppose did something. If it doesn't lead to STRUCTURAL CHANGES in how Congress budgets and spends, it is a colossal failure. Like being mayor of Toothopolis and inviting the Cavity Creeps for a kegger. That sort of failure.

Well, you could print it up. But in your case, it would result in a visit from the Secret Service and a long vacation in a federal prison.

But when our government does it, it's called "sound monetary policy".

Posted by: "Race" Bannon at April 12, 2011 04:17 PM (gJNMj)

48 Spot on, Willow. It doesn't. And I reckon nothing will quickly short of gov't failure. So this doesn't stop failure, but it doesn't perpetuate either. There is no argument from anyone that this is the last step. In fact, the next step is already in the market: Ryan's plan. And there is no argument that Ryan's plan is the last plan. There will be another before the election. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Rand Paul's signature on it for the particularly hard hitting cuts. So, are we fixed. Probably not. We're screwed. But for the first time ever Washington offered a little KY with the special service they give us. I reckon it's a step in the right direction. The first step in that direction I've ever witnessed. It's buys a benefit of the doubt from me.

Seriously, you should never apologize for having a strong opinion, especially one that you can back-up.  You weren't rude or otherwise impertinent to anyone, so there's really no reason that you need to apologize, although it's obviously up to you if you feel you need to anyway.

/But if you do feel burned out by all this, perhaps a break is warranted.  The DOOM will still be waiting for your superb analysis and explanation when you return, .

I know you weren't. I just can't imagine, at all, how that would be. And the thing was, my Mom was at an agonizingly painful visitation and said, well at least you have the rest of the kids. At first it was terrible to contemplate, but when I actually started thinking about it I understood.  And it's like you say. You have other reasons to go on. Doesn't make it any worse, just gives you a reason to get out of bed I guess and something to look forward to? Needless to say, all horrible to contemplate and hopefully neither of us ever has to deal with that. My baby boy is getting letters from West Point and Annapolis. YIKES!!!  And the crappy thing is, I cannot, given the current ROE and policy, give him the slightest encouragement to do what has been the family tradition for the last two generations. 227 Be Bold, Republicans: It's Time to Step Up and Really Take on Obama And I want to put this in perspective. When the Democrats fight among themselves don't think that the factions are liberal versus moderate. Whatever the factions, they all have the same objective, and that's totalitarianism, authoritarianism, big government controlling everybody, whatever you want to call it. The anger stems from other things like how fast or slow Obama's getting there, how deferential he is to Republicans. Don't forget, that side over there, they want Obama to basically chew Boehner's head off in the negotiations and they want to hear about it. They have a visceral hate for us. This notion of showing respect, that's not them at all. Now, here's the thing. Obama is not a capitalist. The Democrat Party is not a party or the party of capitalism. The end that all of these different factions on the left have is the same end. They're not the party of constitutionalism. They are not the party of individualism. They are not the party of prosperity. They are not the party of freedom. They are not the party of liberty. They are not the party of equality. None of that. What are they? Radicals. At least within our system and based on our history, they are utter radicals. So that's the left. Now, on our side we are still fighting the battle of the establishment Republicans, the ruling class, the RINOs versus us, the conservatives and the constitutionalists. Now, the moderates on our side had as their goal avoiding a government shut down. We know it because they said it. Boehner said it over and over again, and the editors at National Review had a lead editorial today praising the end result of this budget deal precisely because it avoided a government shutdown. Now, the conservatives and the constitutionalists are you, the people, the people who make the country work, the people who voted in November, the people who handed the House of Representatives to the Republicans. And who are you? You demanded some real substantive action. The Tea Party movement is also you and us. It sprang up, it came to life from the ashes, the primordial soup of the Republican defeat two years ago in 2008, and to a certain extent even 2006. Now, the moderate Republicans, the establishment Republicans, the RINOs, the ruling class and the wannabe ruling class Republicans have as one of the main aims of their existence controlling you, the Tea Party, controlling the freshmen in the House of Representatives, controlling the message and controlling the public relations. And that's what's going on today. We can talk about the internecine battles on their side, but we've got them, too. But the people, you, you're well aware of what's occurring. The very existence of the Tea Party is proof. It's an illustration that you, us, are much further along in our understanding of where the country is than the people representing us in many cases. You're well aware of what's happening. Contrary to what's said about you, you're not perfectionists, you're not purists, you're not ideologues, you don't have this rigid "my way or the highway" approach. The fact that you want the government to stop destroying your children's future is not an extreme demand.

235 My brother's Alienware computer died and I tried to use his old flat screen monitor a couple of weeks ago, but it had some screwy cable that wouldn't connect to my old computer. It's called DVI.

So as I was calling around local computer shops today, looking for a used LCD with a VGA connector. One of the geeks told me all DVI monitors also have a VGA connector so I looked on the back of my brother's monitor and she was right!

I now have a big, (used) new, bright monitor!

With all of the political shit that's been going on the last few days I've now mostly tuned out of the blogs and have returned to FPS gaming. I haven't gamed for years. It's a great break from shitty political news and arguments -- it's really a great relief.

I don't want to be a part of the problem, willow, but one of my biggest goals right now is to be a government worker (not politics*). I know that sounds odd for an AoS participant but...

I'm in my mid-40s. I'm a single woman. I am a workaholic (working on that...). Every single one of my prior bosses has called me and asked me to come back to work for them. All I want is a bit of job security. I know that I could make a difference in my field (defense). I wouldn't be the typical "sick, lame, lazy" government worker.

My motivation is re-enforced every day when I walk in my office and see my dad's helmet on my bookcase. Unlike Lockheed Martin and their self-serving motto, I never forget who I'm working for.

In the meantime, I'm gardening, stockpiling ammo and booze, and hoping for the best while thinking it's not going to happen.

I really picked a bad day to quit smoking.

*Seriously. Can't. There's probably video... ;-)
