From the Earth to Mars and back, nine times
— CAC

A riddle thread (since I don't feel like an art thread after painting breasts with green latex and goo three weeks ago and the current budget proposals make me equally green right now).

What would stretch from the Earth to Mars and back, nine times?

I'll edit this once someone gets it.

Art thread next week (send submissions to theoneandonlyfinn at gmaildotcom). Updated-
The US debt laid dollar-by-dollar, end to end (guessed correctly by cthulhu and a pile of other morons). Michelle Obama's belt unfortunately goes out a bit past Jupiter.

Depending on how close the Earth and Mars are, that number balloons to 18 times, but 9 should make you gag enough as it is right now.

Our outstanding medicare obligations, to scare you even more, would equal a run to Uranus and back. Twice.

72 OK. God 'o War. If you must: The number of air miles flown in combat mission in the GWOT multiplied by the number of terrorists killed in predator strikes. The stacked bodies of all people killed in recorded battles in human history. The number of miles a Roman war god travels when he forgets the milk and Aphrodite sends him back, and then for bread, and then for coffee... and then after the 9th trip when he says he's going back for condoms she says why bother? I'm already so tired from you not doing what you should have done the first time that I'm just going to bed. Hence the red planet. He cut up some bunnehs in his frustration.

Posted by: OzJohnnie at February 16, 2011 08:36 PM (RJY0+)

73 --dollar = 6 inches
--round trip to mars = 93 million miles (average orbits)
--93 million miles = 491, 040,000,000 feet
--x9 =  4,419, 360,000,000 feet
--x2 (since a dollar is 6") = 8, 838,720,000,000

So it would take 8.8 trillion dollars laid end to end to go to Mars and back 9 times.  (Average orbits.)

It's just a distance measurement. Mars and Earth should line up twice in one Martian Year, I think. If so, take the average of that. Or pick a single moment in time and use that number. When the deficit is this big, it actually will matter less and less what distance you pick.

123 As both Mars and Earth orbit the Sun (at different speeds) and both have slightly elliptical orbits this is not an easy question to answer because at some point Earth and Mars will be on opposite sides of the Sun and therefore very far apart while at other points they will both be on the same side of the Sun and therefore much closer together. On average Mars orbits the Sun at a distance of 227,939,100 km On average the Earth orbits the Sun at a distance of 149,597,888 km Thus the distance between their "average" orbital paths is 78,341,212 Km. However, they would actually only be this distance from one another on rare occasions. Depending on where they are in their respective orbits, they can be anywhere from 36 million miles to over 250 million miles apart. 126 As both Mars and Earth orbit the Sun (at different speeds) and both have slightly elliptical orbits this is not an easy question to answer

A/k/a impossible.  On the information given.  Thus, the question assumes a measuring from orbit to orbit.

Posted by: rdbrewer at February 16, 2011 09:26 PM (ebOGZ)

127 Depending on where they are in their respective orbits, they can be anywhere from 36 million miles to over 250 million miles apart. Like when they line up on the same side of the Sun.

So 3.5 x 10^19 metric tons. And wikianswers sez the Earth masses 5.97 x 10^21 metric tons. Interesting.

You can calculate how many Uranium atoms are included, how many bacteria can cover the surface, how much water they could boil, how many US economies could live off them and for how long.

136 You are all wrong.

It's the number of free condoms being requested demanded by "students," and/or given away by schools, if stretched reservoir tip to serial number.

Prediction: Thanks to stupid, leftist, teacher's union type thinking, soon you won't be able to pass Sex Ed unless you crank one off for the class.

I wish the real teachers were free to simply teach.

OT:  I read the article about the libtard who made fun of the reporter who got raped by the  "freedom fighters" in Eygpt.  I saw his name, nir rosen, and I think "that is strange name for a yank".  So I google him. I find out he is jewish-american from NYC.  He supports all the terrosits like hamas.  The left supports Lenin, Stalin, Che, Mao, and mad muslims terrorists. Sheesh

I am glad I live outside such leftist cities.

141 I used to like NYC. I thought it was awfull watching the smoke rising from the WTC while attending a sporting event the weekend after 9/11.  They are not going to sell me anymore tickets because I dont want to be there next time when the mushroom cloud goes up.

143 CAC:  What do you mean that YOU don't feel like doing an art thread? I've ben waiting a fucking week for the art thread. It's not all about YOU.

I want to know why the paints during medieval times was so much brighter.  I saw a documentary on illustrated manuscripts but I've also seen it in renaissance painting where the colors glow. I'm more interested in what they used in the manuscript.

I assume it was due to the ingredients that are now illegal. Where can I get some? You art geeks must have secret underground suppliers.   Cough it up!
