— DrewM It's about
He's like an evil Bluto...he's rolling.
Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi vows to fight on and die a "martyr," calling on his supporters to take back the streets from protesters demanding his ouster, shouting and pounding his fist in a furious speech Tuesday on state TV.Gadhafi, swathed in brown robes and turban, spoke from a podium set up in the entrance of a bombed out building that appeared to be his Tripoli residence hit by U.S. airstrikes in the 1980s and left unrepaired as a monument of defiance. The speech, which appeared to have been taped earlier, was aired on a screen to hundreds of supporters massed in Tripoli's central Green Square.
Shouting in the rambling speech, he declared himself "a warrior" and proclaimed, "Libya wants glory, Libya wants to be at the pinnacle, at the pinnacle of the world."
What does President Present have to say about the turmoil that is rocking the world oil markets? Nothing.
There are reports that Libyan naval vessel has defected to Malta.
Added: CNNI says they think Gadaffi is speaking from the compound we bombed (no thanks to the French) in the '80s. One thought: Prompt Global Strike...When you have to kill someone within an hour, accept no substitutes.

I, too, back this 100%. But instead of dying a martyr, he should realize that he will, in fact, die a bloated, frog-faced buffoon.
How long before Mummer Gadfly has a Chauchesku moment?

Oh, well, if that's the standard, I guess we can all feel better about the lack of movement at ground 0. I had no idea we had accepted the muslim standard..........leaving it unrepaired should really shake them up. Thinking like a troglodyte is hard. But Barky knows just what to do. I actually heard, once, that it's a Dictatorial thing to do. By saying he's "only" a Colonel, he can pretend only to be "safeguarding" (or somesuch) the nation, instead of "ruling" it.
As for how well it works? IDK.
And HBDGAS.

How do you find those, as a dictator, anyway? Is there some Machiavelli Public Relations, LLC or something?

Forget air strikes and land forces. Just send in a pissed off honey badger and tell it Qadaffi is made of food. Honey badger will take him out. Honey badger don't give a shit, because he's a hungry little bastard.
But even with Qadaffi gone, Libya would be a complete wreck. Whatever government gets installed after his ouster (provided it happens) isn't going to be much better than the one they've got now.

The alternative will be another islamic terrorist state. One that will join with the other newly created terrorist states across North Africa. Those will not be rational.
Once the moderate muslims (assuming that they actually exist) are beheaded by the True Followers, it will be jihad central.
It's starting to look a lot like 732, 1529 and 1683.

Didn't we kill his daughter in that strike?
Gadaffi will probably go under, but i imagine its going to be a long bloody fight. If the protesters took Benghazi, as reports say, then that means they took all the weaponry there. So they're fairly well armed.
If the airforce stops bombing civillians, there will be nothing between Gadaffi and the mob.

Sobieski saved Vienna and the West with his Polish heavy cavalry destroying the light cavalry of the Turks.
As for preserving Qaddafi's power because he is semi-rational? That's irrational. Why would we lift a hand? He is pure evil. Any government, no matter how fundamentalist and anti-West would take years to consolidate power and extend their influence.

Why? It's best used for energy when we can't get oil from foreign sources. Why tap into it now? I would prefer that they hold off until we actually need it to fly our warplanes and fuel our ships and tanks.

Today, the state Senate is going back in session and pressure is growing on Democrats.
First, the 17 Republicans have planned votes on non-budgetary issues that donÂ’t require a Democrat to be present, including a measure vehemently opposed by Democrats that would require voters to show identification at the polls.

The current middle east turmoil, regardless of outcome is good for the west and the US specifically.
Obviously, it democracies emerge, the benefits are clear for the west. However, if islamist governments emerge, there is too much cultural and religious strife in the region among the players for a cohesive and united muslim world to coalesce. Turks won't stand for Arab supremacy; Arabs won't stand for Persian supremacy and Persians won't stand for either Turk or Arab supremacy. Then fold into the mix the Shia and Sunni rivalry and long standing tribal rivalries and you have layers of conflict in the region that are likely to never be sorted out.
The negative outcomes of instability that I see are an interruption of the oil supply to the west and serious danger for Israel. I think the oil supply thing can be dealt with easily by implementing an "all of the above" energy policy. There will be a short term spike in energy costs but once North American sources are accessed along with nuclear power, etc, prices will come down. Prices would drop if the US just announced it was considering an "all of the above energy" policy (recall what happened when GWB allowed the off shore exploration ban to lapse before Obama took place).
Israel is a bigger issue in the long term. We would necessarily have to unequivocally support any action Israel feels is necessary for its security. However, I do see that as do-able policy shift when an adult administration is in power.
OK, rip me a new one...what have I missed?

Heck, we can't even have a cohesive *Arab muslim only* world. The factions and infighting among that subset alone are numerous.
