Game of Thrones Preview
— Gabriel Malor

I've still got my fingers crossed that HBO's Game of Thrones does the books -- the first of which, at least, was very good -- justice. Based on this first fifteen minutes, I'm hopeful.

The website is here. Fans of the series should be sure to check out the wallpapers from the seven houses.

Game of Thrones premiers April 17.

Could someone put me to some learnin' please?

There is a break in the rain, and I was just out walking my puppy Gonzo the Ridiculous. I was wearing my radio headphones and heard at the top of the hour news that Barky showed up at the Lincoln Memorial, and he was blabbering on basically taking credit for the people being able to visit the memorial because he kept the government open.

I know. He's a total douchenozzle..and I would expect nothing less from him, but my question is how the fuck do you close the Lincoln Memorial?

I mean, wouldn't it actually cost money to close it by staffing park police around it saying you can't walk up the fucking steps.??

I've been there several times and I don't remember any doors on the fucking thing.

...and Harry Reid was all worried last night that people that came in for the Cherry Blossom Festival wouldn't be able to see the trees. Do they fold the fucking things up at night and put them away somewhere?

OT

CNN led off their 6 PM news with a long story on the "Outmanned and Outgunned" rebels in Libya - our new friends. At one point, Ben Wedermen (sp?) spent almost 15 seconds talking about how good the soldiers looked in some of their clothes at one point using the words 'quite stylish..'.

So there is that....

12 On a sorta related note:

Southern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire opens today!

Come out and get your $8 per 10oz cup of sorta warm beer fix!
Eat some undercooked turkey legs for $7 a pop!
All for the low price of something like $30 a ticket.
See bad actors and bad singers in bad skits.
See more of BBW's than you ever ever ever needed to see.
Plus! if you act now you can see four failed high school athletes performing jousting at the speed of Wilford Brimley eating oatmeal!

Should be just the thing to make staying home and watching HBO seem like a roller coaster ride.

Check out their new marketing campaign:

This shit was fun a few years ago, so keep giving us money!

Southern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire opens today!

Ok, I'll admit it. I missed Renaissance and only saw Pleasure Faire and California. Vibrators and Jesus-shaped dildos popped into my head. But now Mohammed shaped dildos because that would be offensive.

According to the Harry Reid clip last night, they put them in Virginia. And he implied that if the federal government shut down, Virginia would be devastated. Alas, Cherry Blossoms and Cowboy Poetry are safe.

Maybe Barky was at the Lincoln Memorial for a fitting.

Yes it's depressing, but it's not supposed to be your typical hero-on-a-quest-to-kill-the-orcs story, that's what makes it so great.

It's based on the middle ages and loosely on the War of the Roses. Most people back then lived short, brutal lives.

112 "It's based on the middle ages and loosely on the War of the Roses."

Yeah, and Winter comes every thousand years. How come they didn't develop nuclear power in between? A thousand years seems plenty of time. If you ask me, the place is damn stagnant and the economics are ridiculous. I don't see how they even support the technology they do have

I could deal with all that except the story dies. Even Martin lost interest.

114 Yeah, great books, although that libtard George R.R. Martin has been too busy screwing around with side projects to get the next book in the series out.

They need to learn how to buffer on pause so that the damn video doesnt stop every few seconds to buffer than repeat a few seconds later.

116 I started reading the books about 8 years ago?  shortly before I was a moron.  and I started readinging "A Game of Thrones" and at first I thought, and was disappointed cuz I knew GRRM's work, bored at first.  I thought GRRM was using the same fantasy tripe that everyone uses, the presaging and that smarmy moralizing about nobility.

THEN!  On page 86 (might have been 82, I read it in hardback) a fucking 8 year old gets thrown off of a fucking tower!

FUCKING GUY HAD the, as yet, MAIN CHARACTER THROWN OFF OF A FUCKING TOWER! at age 8!!!!

I realized, "Okay GRRM has balls and he's actually gonna tell a story, WTF!!!"
