Gasoline Prices
— Dave in Texas

Always, always tied to worldwide demand for oil.

The price of a gallon of gasoline is driven 55% by the price of a barrel of oil. That's the deal.

A barrel of oil that isn't produced from the Gulf, but is being explored off of Brazil, thank you President Wonderful. It cant be produced off of ANWR because of meeces.

Cap and Trade Coal Preznit wants your electricity bill to skyrocket.

Remember this in November, no matter who the opposing candidate is.

I will.

3 Gasoline and oil is a commodity. The price of both right now is being driven by the dollar being worthless. Gas should be down around 2.50/gal because demand is low.

Posted by: Vic at October 09, 2011 02:28 PM (M9Ie6)

4 Unfortunately up here in Da 3-0-3, the majority don't have the concept of "value of a dollar". They're all students, or faculty, or in Green Jobs, or in Diversity, or just plain ol' government wankers, um workers.

So whatever the price at the pump, it gets expensed or else Daddy is paying for it.

I repeat: cut this place off. Coloradans are not going to vote themselves out of this paradise they've created at your expense.

The Saudis are enemies as well.

There is enough natural gas in the Utica and Marcellus Fields underneath Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia to power the region for 300 years but the cocksucker environmentalists make shit up about contaminating groundwater when the technology (frakking) has been around for a 100 years and there has never been a single example of contaminated groundwater.

I don't think he reads too well, or he wouldn't be saying that under the current administration. Vic, how are you doing? Let me know about the chemo-I'll be starting it in a few weeks.

Perry has, he needs to lay out a plan showing how many jobs drilling and coversion of heavy trucks to nat gas will make and how it will decrease our trade inbalance. He also needs to lay out a plan for mining rare earth metals and doing the same thing China does with them. If you want our rare earth metals you have to build your factory here.

9 I just got a notice in the mail that my electrical provider is seeking a 20% increase in rates.  While that will suck for me, it's really going to hurt my parents.  I know I keep hammering away at this, but when I think about how my parents spent their whole lives saving and scrimping and doing without so that they could have a decent retirement and now watching as they're getting squeezed on all sides because of the SCOAMF and his fellow travelers, well, it makes me want to go all something something.

15 8-invest in MolyCorp. From their website: Molycorp, Inc. is the only rare earth oxide (REO) producer in the Western hemisphere. We own and operate the worldÂ’s largest, most fully developed rare earth mine and oxide manufacturing facility outside of China, located in Mountain Pass, California. They've just announced a huge discovery in California of heavy rare earth metals, that generally sell for around $2600 per pound. This company, and one in Australia are the only things standing between China and the rest of the world from being completely dependent on them for all electronics. (Full disclosure: we own Molycorp stock, precisely to support them in maintaining REM stock for the US.)

I'm absolutely bullshit that my elderly mother gets less in SS benefits from having to claim early to keep her tiny condo than some 20 year old deadbeat claiming phony back pain for disability. And the leeches get cost of living increases while those who technically earned benefits by paying into the system do not.

All the lefty pricks who decry "capitaltism" ( I put that in quotes because we've had so much governmental interference with the free market, it hardly qualifies any more) are more than happy to see it die. Or so they think.

Personally, I don't want to be the unwilling victim of their stupid, Marxist theories that have proven to fail every time they've been tried. But they, having never lived under anything else and without the temerity to pick up a history book that was written over 75 years ago, think it's all so simple to discard. Their idiocy is plainly evident to anyone with two functioning neurons to rub together.

There is no other viable alternative to capitalism: the world runs on money and there's just no other way to function without it. The gullibility of the "Teat Party" babies occupying Wall Street who're getting their 15 minutes of fame is astounding.

My fear is that we're moving away from what works so rapidly that there are too many who will forget what acutally does work (economically speaking) that we might never return to it without a real revolution.

27 22- The colonoscopy did, but the CT scan showed a tumor on my kidney. Tests showed it was renal cell carcinoma. I found out on Friday, and am 1) waiting for the specialist to call with an appointment for what he's going to do and 2) wrapping my head around it. All blood tests were excellent, except for kidney function, which was only slightly raised, which means they have caught it early. Apparently RCC is similar to ovarian cancer in that it is a silent killer. Most people don't know they have it until it is very advanced-UNLESS they have tests for something else and find it. I am so grateful for my bellyache that started all the testing, but now I am beginning to stress a bit.

47 The Democrat Political Party is the Kill Coal! party.  Why the R's in West-by-God Virginia didn't hammer the crap out of that point in the recent Gubinatorial race is exactly why many call the Republican Party the Stupid Party.  Its like they don't want to win or something.  Oh sure, the individual Dem's will claim that they support coal but none of them can deny that their Prez, and therefor their national party, are firmly in the Kill Coal! camp.  So, voting for any Dem down ticket is tacit support for the Kill Coal! movement that is run from the Prez on down through the national party.  And that is a message that needs to be incessantly repeated in WV, western PA, southwestern VA, WY, southern OH and any other place that produces coal in this country.

Missouri gets 60% of our energy from coal, with one nuke plant and a few dams making up the difference. It's not sunny enough for solar and not windy enough for wind.

The upshot of this is 1) the hippies' electric cars are, in fact, coal-fired and 2) as the EPA seeks to destroy the coal and power industries, electricity will become prohibitvely expensive for many of Missouri's poor.

The more easily led of those poor people will believe that the reason their costs are rising are due to evil Ameren, not because the beloved democrat party  engineered their misery.

97 Thanks guys. Your prayers are very appreciated. This took me by surprise. but I intend to make the absolute most of it. My kids want to give me grief about housework or doing their homework-shut up. I have cancer. The booster club at school yells at me to sell more football programs? Shut up. I have cancer. I see endless opportunities that bode slightly ill for my husband (new furniture so I can recuperate from my surgery/treatments/etc? I have cancer.) Seriously, I have friends who have survived much worse. Heck, my mom survived lung cancer ten years before I was born, which means she went through treatment in the dark ages. I've got nothing to complain about. But I appreciate, and frankly, crave the prayers so I can stay positive and keep my family stable. They've been through a lot the past year, and this doesn't need to bring them down. Oh and, 57, that will certainly keep me, uh, uplifted. I'm sure Vic will appreciate it too.

Ahh yes, the EPA and its mission to take us back to the stone age...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that the EPA's power to disrupt our economy with feaux green garbage regulation is inversly related to the pain Americans feel...If this economy downshifts significantly from here, all but the most committed phantom $hitters within the OWS crowd will be demanding that we unleash the kraken in terms of domestic energy production...Obama's war on domestic energy production is a hidden tax on all Americans afterall...

Don't count on it. At the height of CA's energy problems a few years ago when they were paying monthly bills in excess of a $1,000 and enduring blackouts daily the enviro-tards still would not allow them to place on line several gas turbine plants that were being held up in court.

145 The price of a gallon of gasoline is driven 55% by the price of a barrel of oil. That's the deal.

Don't forget to include weather, refinery shutdowns, refinery fires, winter blend, summer blend, Arab uprisings, terrorism, tanker truck accidents, down stock market, earthquakes, tsunamis, cosmic rays, and sunspots.

146 "--Well, the O-tard is capping our domestic drilling, and trading away the oil drilling business to Brazil." Actually, domestic oil production is increasing again, after seven years of stagnation. Here are the actual figures: 2003: 2,073,453,000 2004: 1,983,302,000 2005: 1,890,106,000 2006: 1,862,259,000 2007: 1,848,450,000 2008: 1,811,817,000 2009: 1,956,596,000 2010: 2,011,856,000 We're also issuing a large number of deep and shallow water drilling permits - over 200 in the past two years. Of course, many more important factors than presidential policy affect oil production, but you're making a characterization of the industry that isn't supported by the facts.
