Gingrich: Please Don't Turn America Into Massachusetts
— andy

Via Michael Graham, the Gingrich soundbite of the day.

As a resident of the Bay State, I wholeheartedly agree.

7 Newt should go on record that all of his bright ideas need to be filtered through the question "Is this something that government should do?" Then if the answer is "yes", there is another question filtering those ideas: "Should this be something the FEDERAL Government should do?" Filter with consideration of the constitution, the enhancement of liberty, and the limits of reality.

13 Did Romney turn MA into MA? Stupid.

It really wasn't a cut on Romney, just Massachusetts. But even that isn't the smartest thing to do when running for President. Like it or not they're still part of the U.S. and a Presidential candidate shouldn't really be insulting any of it's citizens. I think Andy thought this was a plus for Gingrich but really isn't.

Posted by: lowandslow at December 21, 2011 04:01 PM (GZitp)

14 Even if he wasn't carrying several tons of baggage, I have a feeling that Newt would still have a difficult time in a general election thanks to having the personal likeability and charm of a syphilitic hyena.

In the all important "who would you rather share a six-pack with?" test, I don't see Newt scoring very highly.

Posted by: Hollowpoint at December 21, 2011 04:04 PM (SY2Kh)

15 If Newt doesn't win the nomination and Romney does, Mitt's first act as president should be to appoint Newt as the Disrespectin' Czar.  He is brilliant at it and entertaining as hell.  It might even get Newt to train his fire away from Romney.

Posted by: pep at December 21, 2011 04:05 PM (6TB1Z)

16 That actually plays very well in New Hampshire, where they have to deal with all the Massholes moving there and fucking up their state, too. And Newt can totally afford to diss Massachusetts. He's not winning any of these electoral votes.

40 Answering my own question...kinda.

So does that mean only providers who take in state-subsidized children have to pay? Or everyone?

Unionizing recipients of welfare dollars, that can't be good.

State-subsidized childcare has huge potential for fraud, no wonder SEIU's tapping into it.

41 Must say, give Newt kudos for that.  He's certainly made more sense than they're making over at HotAir on this (except for Tina - who is the best they've got right now).

As for Romney - I have to ask: With all the money he's got; if he wants to go into politics, and he says he wants to do it as a Republican, why in the Hell would you choose (because with his money he could choose anywhere) Massa-freaking-ChewsIt??

Yes.  Yes I do.  I think most people are really tired of all the political correctness.  What he says has a lot of truth to it and I think that's one of his attractions.  He has his gaffes, but most of the time he's saying what so many of  the voters have been saying for years.

73 A lot of the campaigning in NH is done in the south which has the larger cities and population. A lot of those people either have moved from Mass or work there and aren't real conservative.
Up in northern NH it's a different story and people are very skeptical of Massholes (like me) and it takes a while for them to trust that you won't try to make their state like The Peoples Republic to the south.
Mitt's place is in the lakes region more to the south and very affluent. He's not really reflective of the more rural and northern NH thinking.

82 21 Oh, you wouldn't believe what is going on in Connecticut these days.

Did they pass the thing where all home daycare owners would be forced to pay SEIU dues?
------------------------
Oh yeah. It's a huge sham of a vote, and payoff to the union. People in the industry are reporting having received unannounced visits from union reps where they were intimidated. This means an additional couple million dollars in dues, of course.

How, precisely, are people who take care of kids in their own damn home going to benefit from union representation?

Malloy is a filthy tool. When one union- the state troopers- rejected his 'concessions' deal, that was the one union that got layoffs. Then when all these state workers got in trouble because they were lining up to wrongfully take FEMA money because of that last storm, the only workers identified were a couple of state cops. Oh, and Malloy specified that it was DSS that did the investigation- the very department that was named as having a large number of employees who ripped off the FEMA funds. The original tally of 800+ public employees shaking down the system was revised down to about a dozen. That seems plausible.

Surprisingly, we haven't heard anything anymore about the results of that 'investigation.'

I could go on...and on. Even after the biggest tax increase in history, the shakedown of the taxpayer has just begun.

The only reason why this state has cash is because of all the industries clustering around 19th century institutions. If those institutions were to relocate elsewhere or lose prominence, we'd be an instant backwater.

Like it or not they're still part of the U.S. and a Presidential candidate shouldn't really be insulting any of it's citizens. I think Andy thought this was a plus for Gingrich but really isn't.

I think that Newt has just successfully appealed to every Mass. refugee and everyone who is aware of the tax / Romneycare situation in Mass.

Pull out the Federal dollars, and what does Romneycare do to Mass. taxpayers?

92 31 Does anyone really think talking like that is a way to win an election? --------------------------- Oh geez. Newt's not going to win MA in the general and he's not going to get the gay vote. It's amazing to me that people who aren't going to vote for Newt insist he keep their feelings in mind. That's too freaking hilarious.

96 Newt is the best we have.  This clip is sheer brilliance.  I'm fucking sick of cornpone bumbling.  Newt balanced four national budgets in a row for Crissakes!

98 This is what I'm talking about.  Newt's zany proclamations will alienate every Republican voter away from the GOP toward Willard.

Not if they are fun proclamations.

99 Good Lord, What was this country thinking when it elected this deplorable moron to the Presidency?

That it would be cool to vote for the black guy.

If some homos decide they will sell the country down the river so their boyfriend can wear a dress, Newt told them to have at it!  Besides they fired the first shot with that Glitter Attack!

101 Being a Rhode Islander, I wouldn't mind a little Mass-holing. At least they have a state Christmas tree.

I'm a Rhode Islander who moved to Clinton MA in 2004 to be closer to my job in Marlboro.  I couldn't take the commute up 495 anymore so I moved as close as I could get and still afford to buy a house.  It's the biggest mistake I ever made.  Massachusetts sucks and is NOTHING like Rhode Island.  Nothing.

Last May I moved to Port Charlotte, Florida.  I used my retirement account to buy a house for cash and sell the hell hole in Clinton at a loss.  It was worth every penny.  I got a 3 bed, 2 bath house with a pool, pool cage, 2 car garage, nice yard in a nice neighborhood, 5 minutes from the Tamiami Trail which has everything I could ever possibly want.  I paid $83K for it.  It's like living in Warwick except it's flat, has palm trees, and beautiful weather.  The drive over the bridge to Punta Gorda is like going from Jamestown to Newport.  It's gorgeous.  I love it here.

Massachusetts was a bad dream I've woken up from.

Anybody who thinks this is going to hurt Newt is a concerned Christian conservative who has no idea what people outside the 93 / 495 belt think of Massachusetts.  They don't think "oh, Cape Cod, Boston, Concord and Lexington," they think "sanctimonious asshole racists, gay-marriage freaks, Kennedy-fellators, illegal-immigrant-coddlers."  Believe me, leave New England and tell people you're from this fucking hellhole, they immediately ask "what's wrong with you people?"

Massachusetts has some nice areas and good people, but they're swamped by the Volvo-driving, Globe-reading, Barney Frank-excusing, Joe Kennedy-fellating, BSO-season ticket holding, little-place-in-the-Berkshires jackholes who put morons like Deval Patrick in office.

Think Carly Simon without the talent.  Or an even smugger Paul Simon.  That's your typical Masshole.

105 @114: lowandslow - are you really that fucking stupid?

OK, genius, why don't you tell us how this hurts Newt?  Anybody in MA who's considering voting for him isn't going to back off because he's telling it like it is.  And if your answer is "we can't afford to piss off the moderates," then just admit you've got a hard-on for Mittens, because you think being a flopping squish is the way to the Oval Office.

106 "Seriously, though.  I don't have an iota of respect for Mormons.  None.

Posted by: garrett at December 21, 2011 08:31 PM (GUwij)"

I know several Mormons.  They are good people.  They care, more than anything, about their family.  They love gun rights.  They hate abortion.  Not everyone agrees with that... perhaps that's not objectively right, but I agree with that.

I think the way Mormons tend to live their lives actually commands respect.  What America needs is strong nuclear families, love, values.  Mormons get it, and I respect them.

do I think some of their religion is wrong, even goofy?  Yes.  But I'm not God and that's not my concern, and I think things many would find goofy if they didn't have my faith in them.

Anyway, Romney is easy to bash without worrying about good folks who share his faith.

Thank god for New Hampshire that they have a progressive state next to them. They boast about low taxes but leech off of Massachusetts for jobs, education, healthcare, hell they haven't got a real airport. Newt can pander all he wants to this backwater state, but leave Massachusetts out of it. It;s one of the finest places to live in this country.

Michael Graham's interview was pathetic, almost sounded like he had a Chris Matthews " I feel something running up my leg" moment. Graham should just move back to south Carolina if he thinks it's so bad in Massachusetts. seriousli, why does he live in Mass if it so bad? Total fraud.
