6 Yeah, Ace. Can't you hear the organ? Get up and dance for our amusement, monkey-boy.

Posted by: Empire of Jeff at May 18, 2011 08:32 AM (OW0nw)

7 How the hell did she just sit there?? I would have gotten up on the chair and started looking to the back of the theater screaming 'give me the damn ring!!!!!!!'

This of course has no correlation to the fact I'm still single.

16 heh that was pretty good

17 Rat bastard makes the rest of us look bad.  I hate it when people raise the bar.  I prefer to keep people's expectations of me low.

18 That dude is so in, he could bang his fiancee's sisters and get away with it.

19 That was cute!  But...who's Charlie and why is she at the movies with him?

At one point she says "is that dad?", so I'm assuming it's her brother.

Posted by: yinzer at May 18, 2011 08:37 AM (/Mla1)

20 If the girl was fugly would anyone think it was the greatest?

Posted by: Rocks at May 18, 2011 08:37 AM (Q1lie)

21 That's a great proposal that she bang other dudes.

"I do!"

22 My wife's exact words were, "You're fucking shitting me!" Then she jumped all over me, ripping the nail off my right big toe, and I limped back to my truck trailing bloody footprints.

Posted by: Empire of Jeff at May 18, 2011 08:38 AM (+61wI)

23 Ugh.

sorry.  I think the idea is great, and the execution is not so great.

She knew what was happening instantly.  You need suspense for this to work, and maybe less catering to the father (it's great to ask his permission, but not great to go on and on about how you're not taking her away from him... which arguably isn't even true... he's giving permission for his daughter to move on for her own good despite his attachment to her).

I dunno.

Posted by: Dustin at May 18, 2011 08:39 AM (Q3nWV)

24 Not bad. Still, I need a 2000-word review of this trailer.

- the popcorn part was drawn-out and ineffective
- somewhat trite musical selection - O Fortuna is more overplayed than "Stairway to Heaven"
etc.

Posted by: Waterhouse at May 18, 2011 08:39 AM (fsGgs)

25 Too much running walking, getting in car, etc. That should have been compressed more. When I was in film school in the 80's there was an old study from the 70's where poor native Americans were giving film equipment, rudimentary training, and asked to go out and make a movie. The movies had all these scene of people walking from place to place. So, the hippies came to the conclusion that walking and traveling distances was culturally more significant to native Americans and it was only to be expected that they would emphasis this more in the films they made. What the hippies failed to realize was that that was a common mistake of all rookie film makers. You need to compress time and skip over the irrelevant stuff. One shot of him running, one shot of the car driving off, one shot of him going into the theater, then back to the funny stuff of him in line. Or better yet, show him running off from his father in law, then cut to him running into the theater. Do we really need the rest of that stuff?

Posted by: tommylotto at May 18, 2011 08:40 AM (oHIHU)

26 The only thing that would have made the trailer better is if she's said "NO!" and kicked him in the nuts.  Other than that, I give it a solid B+.

(I hate public displays and stuff.)

Yeah, you're right.  I though it read 'Is that Matt & my dad'.

Posted by: Tami at May 18, 2011 08:41 AM (VuLos)

28 I would have had him going into the wrong movie at first then going into the right one.

Ace -

This.  is how I know you are gay.

Posted by: garrett at May 18, 2011 08:42 AM (djcwr)

30 Sweet...but I would have killed him (depending on the size of the diamond).

31 Someone should have FightClubbed it and stuck in 3 frames of penis.  Every 120 frames or so.

36 All that planning and he didn't think to charge the battery in the recorder just in case.

Posted by: I R A Darth Aggie © at May 18, 2011 09:16 AM (1hM1d)

38 That was almost as good as my proposal where I took out the ring box, tossed it at her from across the room and said, "I wuz thinkin' we should get engaged if'n ya got a mind to."

Posted by: slug at May 18, 2011 09:18 AM (kHDaT)

39 If I had done ANYTHING like that when I proposed to MY wife... I would have walked away with no wife, possibly no face, and a permanent limp.

40 36 Dr Spank@29: Going into the wrong movie theater and asking someone else to marry him. Posted by: California Tower at May 18, 2011 01:09 PM (QF8uk) And if the wrong girl said Yes...

41 Is there a way to do that without having to get married?

Posted by: Michael at May 18, 2011 09:25 AM (FC2+c)

42 Old joke, I know.

Q: How does a High School boy propose to his girlfriend?
A: "You're what?"

Posted by: CUS at May 18, 2011 09:36 AM (wOGfT)

43 This is why I like squeezable mayo.

You see, those lids on the squeeze mayo are the right size for a nice fake diamond ring.  You put the ring in there, and she has to make you a sandwich before she can get engaged.

And you should never marry a woman who isn't already making you a sandwich.

Posted by: Dustin at May 18, 2011 09:41 AM (Q3nWV)

44 Cute, clever, and funny.

But too long. And it gave too much away at the beginning--she figured out right away it was her boyfriend and father.

Also "Making the Movies Jealous" was a terrible title.

Other than that it was fine.
