Herman Cain Apologizes For Comments About Muslims
— DrewM

Via Byron York.

Here's the statement Cain released after meeting with Muslim leaders.

I would like to thank Imam Mohamed Magid and the ADAMS Center for extending their hospitality to me this afternoon. We enjoyed heartfelt fellowship and thoughtful dialogue about how patriotic Americans of all faiths can work together to restore the American Dream.

While I stand by my opposition to the interference of shariah law into the American legal system, I remain humble and contrite for any statements I have made that might have caused offense to Muslim Americans and their friends. I am truly sorry for any comments that may have betrayed my commitment to the U.S. Constitution and the freedom of religion guaranteed by it. Muslims, like all Americans, have the right to practice their faith freely and peacefully.

As I expected, we discovered we have much more in common in our values and virtues. In my own life as a black youth growing up in the segregated South, I understand their frustration with stereotypes. Those in attendance, like most Muslim Americans, are peaceful Muslims and patriotic Americans whose good will is often drowned out by the reprehensible actions of jihadists.

I am encouraged by the bonds of friendship forged today at our meeting, and I look forward to continuing this very healthy dialogue. The relationship we established was so positive that the Imam has invited me back to speak to not only some of their youth, but also at one of their worship services.

Having hit Cain pretty hard for his comments, I'm glad to see him rethink the position he outlined about 10 days ago.

I'm really not looking to reopen the fight that went on when the comments were originally made. Still, having gone after him pretty hard that day, it's only fair to acknowledge Cain's apology and his revised position.

It was a stupid comment, I'm glad to see he walked it back, but it's a moot point now. Like him or not, his candidacy is going nowhere.

4 solid and necessary apology, but doesn't actually affect much at this point. Looking forward to the fistfight, though I think people may be too tired after the budget infighting today.

Know what would have more than made up for it?  Not saying stupid shit in the first place.

We already have a President that (in the court of public perception) is a good speaker that speaks in platitudes and has no freaking clue what he's talking about.  We don't need another.

He's toast, and deservedly so.  Want to be President?  Serve out a term as governor or at least a Senator first, then we'll talk.

Cain's wording sucked, and he could have done a better job of trying to express the situation as it exists, taken some lessons from Peter King for instance, but he tried to point out that we have a serious problem, and got attacked for it by the mainstream Media and some on the right.

Good point.  It's freaking annoying when Islam's professional complainers tell someone they are intolerant while ignoring how intolerant much of their religion is.  I mean, Mecca is central to Islam and is utterly intolerant, in a country that is incredibly oppressive to human rights.

It's like the KKK Kleagle whining that someone didn't get a job due to affirmative action.  Sure, perhaps he has a point, but he has no credibility.

Cain is a politician now.  Politicians have to navigate this crap, or their walkbacks tend to compromise what they believe in.  Better to avoid the drama at all by messaging the idea more carefully.  Cain is right about creeping sharia, but has been sloppy about our constitution and to some extent moderate Muslims.  I realize the concept of moderate Muslims is controversial, but you guys aren't politicians.

82 Like him or not, Cain is the only candidate who even has a prayer of moving a significant portion of the black vote rightward. Apparently thats acceptable in the squishy world of RINOs.  And you'll not while the normal spineless creatures that always call for compromise as the only way the Dhimmirat Senators dropped a nuclear bomb declaring their preference for default rather than not allowing Obama a blank check.

Let us hear some more lectures from the dimwitted.

I must say I admire the dhimmies for their strong leadership and firm adherence to their principles.  This characteristic is missing in the Vichy GOP.
