House GOP Leadership Agrees to 100 Billion in Cuts
— rdbrewer

A done deal? From NRO:

In other House Republican news, a leadership aide associates himself with the accuracy of this Roll Call story:
House Republican leaders have agreed to a key conservative demand that they make good on their campaign pledge to reduce fiscal 2011 spending to $100 billion less than President Barack ObamaÂ’s budget request, GOP aides said Wednesday.

According to a GOP leadership aide, Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and other leaders are working with Republican appropriators, the Republican Study Committee and other conservatives on a “unified” strategy to reduce spending beyond the $74 billion in cuts they had already planned. The cuts, which would only apply to non-defense discretionary spending, would come as part of a continuing resolution to fund the government between March and the end of the fiscal year.

. . .

It remains unclear how Republicans will make the additional $26 billion in cuts. Cantor has reportedly directed appropriators to stay on schedule and introduce their CR on Thursday. Because Republicans are still hashing out their strategy, it appears unlikely the additional cuts would be included in the bill, and a second aide suggested they could come in the form of an amendment.

It is also unclear whether the cuts will be made across the board or whether certain areas would be targeted for deeper cuts.

This is a big early win for new Republican Study Committee chairman Jim Jordan. Oddly, it may be one for his fellow Ohioan, John Boehner early in his speakership, too.

Thanks to Miss'80sBaby.

14 How hard is it to cut $100 billion? Defund NPR, PBS, Obooblecare. Cut out some stupid farm subsidies, foreign aid, maybe some billion dollars military project. Defund EPA. Cut some from the DOE, DOA. Personally and I know Boner can not do this, is propose a 25% military spending reduction along with the abolition of medicaid and the DOE. It will only work if we have all three branches (Chuck Schumer branches, that is) but it gives the Dems less ammo to carp about how much we need to gut the military.

28 I'm calling this a staged crisis:

(1) Jordan and Flake always said they would offer amendments to get to $100B, and both said they would easily pass.

(2) Paul Ryan said his own proposal cut too little and that he wanted more.

(3) This "dire crisis" was over in an incredible fast amount of time and Cantor was already directing appropriators before the ink was drying on the Roll Call article.

(4) Boehner's had an awful week and needed to shore-up his credibility.

In Islam, those who are the most devout are also, frequently, the most barbaric. It is inconceivable that leaders of any other religion would order a fourteen-year-old rape victim to be whipped to death. Whether Islam can be modernized and reformed is far from clear. Certainly, it can't be reformed by non-Muslims. The central issue of our time is whether sane Muslims have the will and the ability to reform their religion and make it a force for good; and if not, what the rest of us should do about it.

They can't even begin to become civilized while they are still afraid of their own urges or angry at their own urges when they see a woman. As long as they keep them covered up, out of school, and separated they will have a viseral reaction everytime they lay eyes on one. In turn they blame the woman and abuse her. It's sick, it's twisted, and they will never have the civilizing influence--they will always be a poor excuse, a filthy debauched excuse for a lord of the flies type insane, brutal culture if they can't get a hold of this basic idea.

For the moment, however, it is unclear how Republicans will enact the cuts. “There have been differences of opinion expressed as to whether we should do programmatic cuts or across-the-board cuts,” Foxx acknowledges.

But Ryan’s numbers, Foxx says, are by no means a final product. “I do not know where Paul’s numbers came from,” she replies, when asked whether Ryan’s budget was set by the leadership. “I can’t explain to you why there is a difference between what Paul brought up last week and what the number will be when the continuing resolution comes up.” The numbers, she says, are fluid, with much debate to come within the caucus.
