— Ace A twenty day period of votes against the Obama Agenda, which of course are not effectual on their own (as Democrats still control the Senate). But they hope to both demonstrate that they're carrying through on promises to voters and force Obama and the Democrats in the Senate closer to a Tea Party view of the world.
Almost as soon as they take control of the House at noon Wednesday, Republicans will embark on a 20-day plan aimed at undoing major aspects of President Obama's agenda as they seek to take advantage of the weeks before the Senate's return and the president's State of the Union address. The first move will come Friday, when the House begins the process of repealing the new health-care law. House leaders will then quickly begin to identify tens of billions of dollars in proposed spending cuts and to ease regulations that businesses find burdensome.
...
...
Senate Republicans are looking ahead to a pair of opportunities in the next several weeks in which McConnell could re-create his role in negotiating the broad bipartisan deal last month to extend the Bush-era tax cuts. Party leaders said they hope to use the March 4 expiration of the temporary measure that funds the government, as well as the need to lift the federal debt ceiling above $14 trillion, to extract concessions from Obama.
The starting point for spending cuts will be in the House, where Boehner has established a goal of rolling back spending to 2008 levels. That would mean a reduction of more than $60 billion for the remainder of the fiscal year - a number that many Democrats consider politically difficult to achieve if Republicans exclude cuts to the Pentagon and homeland defense programs, as they have said they would.
$60 billion? They can do that. It'll take a lot of politics to force the hands of Democrats on this, though.
What About $100 Billion? Some are asking if $60 billion is reneging on the promise to cut $100 billion. I don't think so, but it depends on how you look at it.
I think what's going on is that the fiscal year is already like one third over and will be even more over when the Continuing Resolution runs out. I think it begins in October.
So they think $100 billion per year means $60 billion, pro rata, for what's left of this year.

60 billion? It was 100 billion this morning.
I'd also like to see some legislation preventing Obama from regulating what congress refused to pass. Something like, "if congress voted it down, the president is prohibited from achieving the same act through exec orders, regulation, or threatening people with Michelle"

As the new members of Congress get deeper into their re-election campaigns -- which started last November third -- you'll see rhetoric get louder and results diminish.
I'm not expecting any of us to live long enough to see the House (much less Senate) call for the closing of wasteful agencies, come up with a budget that even gets down to 2010 levels or take any substantive action to reduce Osama Obama's ability to unconstitutionally grab power.
Frankly, my expectation of Boner's new House is that it will "pass" lots of window-dressing bills for the Senate to piss on in the first days and weeks, then go back to treason business as usual.

Yep. Executive order and regulatory manipulation will kill us before we can vote the bastard out of office.
Already we've got states ignoring these rules and regs (hat tip to Texas) while they're litigated. I imagine if the whole-sale destruction of the US continues, some states will just continue flat-out ignoring Zero's rules and regs regardless of what the courts say -- and show other states that's the only way they and the US will survive.

Watching Boehner grab that gavel was the highlight of my day. Also, watching who fell asleep during his speech.
All these proceedings are rather boring, but I find it oddly entertaining.
I also like to watch grass grow and paint dry. Oooh, look, a squirrel.
And that's Mr. Excitement to you.

That needs to be their number 1 priority. Individual budget items that take massive control and cuts of some of these worthless departments.
That and stopping the EPA/FCC power grab.
Then the committees need to start hitting the "Czars".

Here's what I don't get, on the two page repeal of ObamaCare, why doesn't the house raise the debt limit to 16 Trillion.
And then say...there we voted to raise the debt limit, if Obama doesn't like it too bad, that's the way the debt limit gets raised, and the only way.
Politically, if 60% want ObamaCare repealed how is this a losing position, if the response is the democrats say Republicans are holding the debt limit hostage say, no Democrats are, we passed a debt limit increase, it's that or nothing. Sorry.

Maybe Ace would run a football-style betting pool, so we could all pick our "scores" on this Congress and see how they stack up with reality.
I, for one, would be rooting for myself to be horribly wrong with my "picks."
But I'd probably win.

That is a great idea but I would add lower the tax rates below the Bush numbers and propose a budget that is slashed by 25 - 50%. See if the Purple Lipped Commie can handle it.

I am not worried about their ability to cut $ 60 Billion considering that 3 years ago the budget was $2.5 Trillion and now it's $3.6 Trillion. The only inflation in the whole country in 3 years has been in DC.
We need to do alot more though but $60 billion is a start.

Posted by: Buster Hymand at January 05, 2011 03:09 PMKeeping tax rates where they are and slashing the budget by 5% is probably more than either Congress or the Traitor-in-Chief can handle.
We need to demand that the general budget be cut by a minimum of 25%, all worthless agencies be closed within 90 days (that would include EPA, IRS, DoE, PBS, NEA, and all agencies that duplicate private-sector work), and end all subsidies/giveaways. Reduce foreign aid by 75% through removal of all nations with which we don't have good relations ("good" as far as the nation is concerned, which would cut off all of Osama Obama's buddyroos). Withdraw from the UN. Reduce/eliminate our participation in the World Bank. No more bailouts of any kind.
All that could be done within two weeks, even given Congress's penchant for three-day workweeks and long lunches.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Tuesday that repealing Obamacare would do "very serious violence to the national debt and deficit." (Snip) “If everyone in America was very, very pleased with his or her health insurance and had no complaints, and had access to quality affordable health care in our country, it still would have been necessary for us to pass the health-care reform bill because we could not sustain the system,” Pelosi said on Tuesday. That is because Obamacare is a money saver, she argued.
