— Ace
"By calmly and meticulously overseeing the successful targeting of Osama bin Laden, President Barack Obama just proved himself -- vividly, in almost Biblical terms -- to be an effective commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the United States."
"Calmy and meticulously overseeing" seems to be a resume-padding way of saying "He watched the SEAL team act on closed circuit video."
Like, "I facilitated urgent inter-organizational communications" (i.e., I routed calls to my boss).
Yes, he was Commander in Chief. He ordered the strike -- or acquiesced to it, when Leon Panetta really urged it.
But does anyone, apart from Howard Fineman, believe he was making tactical decisions? That's what his "meticulously overseeing" is meant to stupidly, and dishonestly, imply-- he crafts words which are deliberately vague but can be read to mean quite a bit.
No, Obama wasn't "meticulously overseeing" this. He was authorizing others to act. Those others "meticulously oversaw" it and then reported back that everything was being "meticulously overseen."
Amazing.
But of course they're going to do this -- bear in mind, this is a media which has praised Obama for accomplishing nothing at all. The media even swooned over drawings he drew as a seven year old!
They might as well have gone the full proud-parent route and babbled praise at him for making a nice poopie.
So, of course, when he finally achieves (as in, was a part of) something important -- well, all that previous, ahem, restraint they demonstrated goes out the window.
Question: Is the media saying it was possible that Obama might have made the decision to not authorize the raid?
That's how a decision becomes critical -- only if there was the possibility of choosing the other way. If there's no other possible decision, there's no real decision.
So -- is the media telling me that Obama is the sort of man who might have chosen not to take out Obama?
If so, please elaborate: And tell me why this should be a reason to vote for him rather than against him, which seems the more reasonable response.
Howard Fineman Is Truly An Idiot: I said it back in 2007, in a very funny piece in which I noted his tendency to drool on down to his pants when the name "Barack Obama" was mentioned.
Good to see his trousers are still wet.
Question for a Debate: "Mr. President, I'm going to read you the names of several people who were president, or who might have been president, had history worked out differently.
Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush the Elder, Bill Clinton, George Bush the Younger, John McCain, Rudolf Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, and Sarah Palin.
Now, Mr. President, I'd like you to tell me which of those people, if any, would not have made the decision you did to take out Osama bin Ladin."

But in this case he made a tough call. This was an uber risky mission and with the Carter comparisons already floating around, Jimmy's debacle in the desert had to be on his mind. Obama had to make a difficult call with huge personal risk and he made it....and he made the correct one.
This is going to make it tougher to say "Obama has no guts" when the election rolls around next year.

You know what would save a lot of money in 2012? Suspending elections! Republicans can't win anyways, and they'd probably appreciate the cost savings. The money that would have been spent in elections could be put towards the national debt. Win/Win for everybody!

In the White House released pic, I didn't even see Obama at first. He seemed to be pretty slumped down off to the side. I would have expected a more stately pose as he "oversaw our Nation's finest fighting men". Front and center with his arms crossed would have better fit the narritive. I also noticed that Hillary! didn't seem to have the stomach for what was going on at the time the pic was taken.

Former Minnesota Gov. Others expected to participate include former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, who's 2008 run sparked the modern Tea Party movement, former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, and businessman Herman Cain.
Newt Gingrich had planned to attend but has indicated he will not have filed the FEC papers in time. Mitt Romney has yet to file his South Carolina candidacy papers and some insiders have hinted that his strategy will downplay the Palmetto State this time.
Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann expressed eagerness to attend but does not expect to have her paperwork in order until June. Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin have filed no paperwork which some Republicans see as a sign that both will opt out of the 2012 race altogether.
So it looks like Romney will be skipping SC. Maybe it's not his turn after all.

If there had been anything wrong with the intel, or the raid collided with Pakistani forces, this could have gone bad. There may have been further intel opportunities from monitoring the site rather than striking. And the blowback in Pakistan from the strike, even if successful, could be ugly.

IMHO.
On a scale of 1 to 10 (where 1 is grovelling coward and 10 is shoot-first berserk) a 3 or maybe even a 4 might not go, and 5-8 would think about it first.
So Obama deserves that much credit. He's President, and he sees (against all his conditioning) what the President has to do - at least some of the time.

Thank you, thank you! (Waits for applause to die down).
As an American (whips out B.C. from jacket pocket), I am proud to stand before you all today to congratulate myself on the outstanding way I handled the recent killing of Osama Bin Laden. Many of you lost family and loved ones that fateful, sunny, cloudless Tuesday morn. I myself remember exactly where I was when I heard the news. Michelle and I had just finished working out with our personal trainer, Joe, and were sipping our cruelty free, fat free, sugar free, fiber enriched, fair trade protein drinks.
Luckily, I was not in D.C. at the time as I was busy coaching Malia's basketball team to the semi-final of the quarter final of the pre-playoff hemi-final. Michelle and I sat aghast as we watched the two airplanes deliberately ram into the World Trade Center. We immediately placed several franctic phone calls to our broker in Tower 1 to begin selling off our stock shares immediately. I couldn't believe that an incident like this could wipe out the carefully crafted nest egg that Michelle and I had only recently been able to put together.
As the full horror of the financial losses we would incur hit us, Michelle and I both burst into tears. For you see, it wasn't long ago, that we were just like you guys, living paycheck to paycheck and carrying a balance on all 25 of our credit cards. We were finally able to start saving for the girls's college funds when disaster struck.
I am happy to stand before you today and bask in my own greatness. There really is no one as smart, as good looking or as wonderful as me. I guarantee you that you will go away from this place today, better people, because I have honored you with my gaze.
So in conclusion, this is a great day for America and a great day for me. I bless America! Amen!

Somehow, this brave, young president overcame unbelievable odds, and was able to successfully wipe his anal cleft numerous times without, I repeat, without soiling any of the fingers on his right hand!!! This is completely unprecedented!!! I've seen toilet paper failure occur in cases much less severe than this one, but President Obama was determined not to let that happen, not this time, not this day.
What President Obama was able to accomplish under so much strain and so much pressure is a feat of Biblical proportions. Hard to believe that the left is so intolerant of Christians when reporters are trumpeting Obama in "Biblical" terms. From James Hirsen:
Jim Caviezel reveals that taking the lead role in “The Passion of the Christ” has curtailed his ability to obtain work in Hollywood.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Caviezel’s voice was “cracking with emotion” as he shared his post-“Passion” experience of being “rejected in my own industry.”
While promoting “Words of Promise Audio Book of The Bible,” featuring the voices of Caviezel, Michael York, and Oscar winners Richard Dreyfuss, Marcia Gay Harden, Jon Voight and Louis Gossett Jr., the gifted actor addressed an audience at the First Baptist Church of Orlando.
Caviezel noted that when he acted in “The Passion” he was 33 years old, the same age that Jesus Christ was when he was crucified. His initials, too, are the same as the Savior’s, a coincidence that “freaked out” director Mel Gibson during casting.
Caviezel said that after Gibson offered him the lead role, the director called him back and tried to dissuade him from taking the part, predicting, “You'll never work in this town again.”
“We all have to embrace our crosses,” Caviezel responded.
The film star said that he has paid a price in Hollywood. “Jesus is as controversial now as he has ever been,” Caviezel said. “Not much has changed in 2,000 years.”
Despite a dearth of film offers, Caviezel accepts his personal cross. “We have to give up our names, our reputations, our lives to speak the truth.”
A heavier cross than that of career is a family tragedy: One of the special-needs children that Caviezel and his wife adopted from China has developed terminal cancer. CaviezelÂ’s faith remains unshaken despite the heart-breaking diagnosis.
Reflecting the believer’s hope, Caviezel said, “Maybe God, through my son's death, is going to teach me something.”

So our Biblically effective CinC displayed his world class temperment at the Correspondent's Dinner:
In what appears to be yet another vengeful swipe from the president, Obama went after actor Matt Damon, who recently dared to criticize his leadership ability.
“Matt Damon said the other day that he was disappointed in my performance,” Obama said. “Well, Matt, I just saw ‘The Adjustment Bureau’...”

There's a little sign in the window of Hollywood casting agencies, scrawled in black ink, that read "No Christians, Republicans allowed."
Luckily, the "barrier to entry" for filmmaking is getting lower, so they won't be able to keep "certain voices" out for long.

Only people who have congestive heart failure or who are "salt sensitive" should avoid salt. I tried an experiment in which I ate salty potato chips all day long and took my blood pressure hourly. The salt had no impact what so ever.

@143: "Nobody will have to run on national security at all; first of all, people don't trust Democrats on that no matter who is president, and secondly The Issue is going to be the economy, barring some national security screwup of, dare I say, biblical proportions."
I'll bet we don't even have contingency plans for dealing with the Assyrians, Hittites, or Babylonians!

159 Of course it was possible for Obama to say no.. The kids over at Daily Kooks have story after story about how Obama risked his presidency and second term on this decision! He made a selfless decision for the good of the country!!!111!
Sounds like they're surprised too.

I think if you give most 5 year olds a cookie, they can do this aswell. Especially boys since it probably looked like a cool video game.
