— Ace Will he declare?
I already told you he would, you dummies.
As I said, it was up in the air, and unlikely. Good to see I was right -- yet again.
(Oh shut up, you don't come here to read correct things, you come here to read interesting things.)

While waiting on the edge of your seats for the Huckster's big decision, here's some reading material. The head of the IMF has just been arrested for forced head on a hotel maid -- See Drudge.
The IMF has been doing to that nations like Iceland and Ireland for years now.

Okay, so I flipped to Fox and he's doing a typical tap-dance interview/soliloquy.

Well, if he does I've already got a puke bucket handy in case I can't make it to the bathroom in time.
I heard the first minute of his show, and he's milking it for all it's worth. It certainly shows what a smarmy, fat fuck he is. I had to change the channel. He makes me almost as nauseous as deWon. I guess I'll have to wait for someone that can stomach it to let me know.

"The French political bigshot who heads the International Monetary Fund was arrested for allegedly sodomizing a Manhattan hotel maid today — getting hauled off an Air France flight just moments before takeoff from Kennedy Airport, police sources told The Post.
Three Port Authority detectives pulled Dominique Strauss-Kahn from the planeÂ’s first-class cabin just two minutes before it was due to depart for Paris, the sources said.
Strauss-Kahn, 62, was turned over to NYPD officers from the Midtown South precinct, and the case is being investigated by the Special Victims Unit."

But he's incredibly better than Obama (I know, low bar), so he's got that going for him. I welcome him to the contest if he runs, the more the merrier.

Go back to the wine, friend. The red is good for the heart and the buzz is dreamy-er.
Try this Montepulciano d'Abruzzo I'm having sometime. This one is La Valetina, but they're all good in my experience. Interesting story, the grape is from Montepulciano, in Southern Tuscany. The wine was highly regarded. A fellow took vine cuttings to Abruzzo (Adriatic side, east of Rome), and found the grape produced an even better wine when grown in those lush mountains.
Ahhhh, wonderful!

Huckabee sucks, but this isn't what happened. Huckabee winning in Iowa and beating Mitt wasn't 'staying' in the race. Huckabee came into the public eye because Iowa had pretty much rejected Romney (and he advocated Fair Tax, which was popular with the caucus). After that, why should he get out of the race?
Let's not even get into the 'floating cross' stupidity.

The Huckster is the reason we have Obamacare. If he hadn't stayed in the race and split the anti-McCain vote. Romney would have been the nominee, and he'd have lost to Obama by a smaller margin than McCain, which would have saved GOP Senate seats in Minnesota and Alaska. .
Posted by: Jon at May 14, 2011 04:29 PM (bDfMt)
The "leaked" e-mail makes it sound like he's running. The fact that it was "leaked" (does anyone think that Huck didn't want it made public?) kinda suggests he isn't.
In other words, I still don't know if he's running, and I'm not interested in watching his show to find out.

The Huckster is the reason we have Obamacare. If he hadn't stayed in the race and split the anti-McCain vote. Romney would have been the nominee, and he'd have lost to Obama by a smaller margin than McCain, which would have saved GOP Senate seats in Minnesota and Alaska. .

Obama/Huckabee would be something like that, except we'd have our choice between two equally hateful, bigoted, and evil fucks, and Obama sure ain't Edwards.
So yes, if Huckabee is the GOP nominee I sit the election out.

I don't hate him. I actually have about zero political opinion about him, I came to the Republican side of the 2008 election late and I really haven't followed any of his pronouncements since then. No, he doesn't get a pass on that. Huckabee ignored all the signs and let an unreformed/unrepentant criminal go when he clearly did not deserve it. While the deaths of those policemen in Seattle isn't directly on his head, his negligence as an agent of justice caused those officer's deaths all the same. That is the responsibility and guilt he'll have to carry with him for the rest of his life.

I don't think it is at all. Romney would easily have been a stronger nominee than McCain. He didn't have built-in hatred from the base that McCain cultivated over a decade; he wouldn't have flaked out and suspended his campaign at a crucial time; he wouldn't have been able to be tied to Bush as easily as McCain was in the minds of lefty voters, and he wouldn't have been such a drag on downticket races. At the very minimum Coleman could have been saved.

And i don't even like Mitt that much.
I will have to give Huckabee this much credit. He did turn me into a Republican. I had always been a NOP (no party preference) until Huck's religion-baiting so pissed me off, that I registered as a Republican so that I could vote for Romney in the primary.

I think it was both. I think he's become much more comfortable campaigning and speaking. I also thing the wheel has turned to where Economy is Everything, which gives him a better shot. Also, fairly or not, Obama's "religious background" has made an unconventional religious background of any kind less of a big deal.
Listen, Mitch Daniels is a Milquetoast, and large numbers of pundits are champing at the bit to see him run. You think Romney is going to be seen as a "bad campaigner"? We are not going to out-charisma Obama. We need serious, solid economics to beat Obama.

Huckabee seems like a good guy, though he's not my candidate and Romney looks like an opportunist for good reason. There were definitely who cared about his Mormonism, though. They bluntly said so. If you go on YouTube, you can find video of people who refused to shake his hand while campaigning because of it and I remember debating those people in '08. I don't like it, but it was a part of this for some people.
The problems with Huckabee stem from 1.) the idea that social conservatism virtually by itself is enough and 2.) his adherence to religion to the point of being naive about the extent people can use it to manipulate him (i.e., the pardons).

Peoples, I lived in Utah for ten years in college and as a newlywed. I am not Mormon. They are good people and if Romney is elected you will not be forced to either wear the funny underwear or be polygamist (although some of you morons would like the latter, no?). I have Mormon friends from college. They were called "Jack Mormons" at the time as they drank, but many returned to the church as adults. Utah is not Big Love, although I did (honest injun) have polygamist neighbors, which made for good entertainment (the kind with the pastel dresses and puffy sleeves from the compound kind).
Romney had my vote in 2008 and would have possibly beat Obama if stinkin' Charlie Crist had not pulled his crap and supported McCain at the last moment. Romney is a smart man with good business sense (compared to JEF, who has bad comedy sense). Romenycare, I have read, failed due to all the Democrat bs from the MA Congress heaped upon it. It is also a failure due to the MSM propaganda and other reasons. However, at the time it passed, I thought it might be a good thing. That said, due to the evisceration of the MSM and the Mormonphobes, Romney could not win.
Now, back to the scheduled party of Huck staying on FOX and us not having to endure his campaign.

Romney himself disagrees with you. He recently defended the program in its entirety. And in 2008 he pimped it as proof it was awesome.
(Btw, I live in MA and Romneycare sucks).
Posted by: Bevel Lemelisk at May 14, 2011 05:23 PM (uhAkr)
I agree Romney would have been a better candidate in 2008, but I disagree about your claim it was only democrats who sank Romneycare. For one, that effect was predictable, so Romney saw that and has some responsibility. Another, mandates are troubling.
Romney has a serious flaw on his resume, despite being better than John Mccain. He also was not reelected. We should consider governors who succeeded enough to win their people's support again (I include Palin in that, but some don't... legit call either way).
Anyway, I think he got a raw deal from Huckabee, and I'm sure he's pleased that the prick isn't running.

Here's where I stand.
Romney is out for me unless something changes about the slate of candidates and/or his position on Masscare. I am troubled by his love of mandates and believe that even if he followed through with repealing Obamacare, I would not like the replacement that he would put in its stead.
Daniels was someone I was looking at, but I am really concerned about his leadership style and think he would be a lousy campaigner. And this thing with the judicial appts - coupled with his statement about foreign policy - reinforces my opinion that he is a myopic wonk (at best) who would punt on other important things.
I have resolved to look at Pawlenty, but I'm not hopeful. I don't like populists and Minnesota is not a state I admire.
I am not as impressed by Cain as many here are. I think he's a good spokesperson, but I really can't elect someone with really no track-record in government or public service. Plus, I think the statement he made about not hiring/appointing Muslims was stupid and intemperate.
I won't vote for Paul (either one).
I won't vote for Newt in the primary.
I would vote for Mitt over Huntsman. Everything I've heard about Huntsman from Utahns, coupled with what I've read about his record and background, makes me dislike him.
Of the ones who have not announced:
I have serious reservations about Palin.
I wish Ryan or Pence or Christie would run. I would probably consider West as well, although I would rather he waited because he'd have a hard time with such a short time in office.
Posted by: Y-not at May 14, 2011 05:38 PM (pW2o8)
I put this marker down with a conservative friend of mine a year ago, and it makes even more sense now that Huck is out, so I'll put it down here as well: it'll be Romney vs. Palin (yes, I think she'll wait and wait and then run on her own terms) in the end, which will drag on for longer than most GOP nominating contests. They're the most ambitious people in the hunt (and ambition counts for a LOT), and more importantly, they're perfect foils for the opposing wings of the party. Castle v. O'Donnell was the harbinger, and the warmup. I know where AoSHQ will land on that decision, but the party at large? I dunno.
Just my two cents, worth every penny.

If Romney were to get the nomination, (1) he has said super-clearly that healthcare is a state issue; and (2) if he wins, you get a fully GOP Congress, so mandates aren't happening, and Obamacare is going to be repealed.
Ex-deux Reagana ain't showing up, boys. Lets get real.

he's usually pretty good with stuff like this. Know it's out of left field but he's usually right.
If it makes you feel superior to call me stupid go ahead, knock yourself out. I don't have anything to prove on here, it's real life where it counts.

Seeing as how Ace of Spades readers rule the world, the person we finally endorse will win (after epic battles). It is as simple as finding this person.
After all, who can't beat a preening, prat peeswhank who rules from his behind and has such poor comedic timing in a time of $4 gasoline and 9% unemployment and doom? [Plus he has jug-ears and limp-wrists while jogging stairs, and that mole I want to remove with a hot branding iron dipped in the fetid pustules of a buzzard. Honestly, that mole is what I focus on when he is yapping. He could be saying we are now invading Cuba, Floridians duck for cover, and I would not hear a word due to having sound muted and throwing things at teevee]

Anyone that wonders why we hate him can see he's a ratings whore, he did this huge announcement on his show for ratings. I'm glad I was out and don't watch it. Good riddance, he couldn't run, he's too fat. He would have had to go on a diet by now.
What do they do to men in Hope Arkansas?

But the problem is two-fold. First, he is talking about repeal and replace (although I have yet to see specifics). And second, he does actually like mandates. So even if he followed through on repeal (which I think he would because he would have a Republican Congress and because I actually think he is a man of integrity), I think he would encourage states to put something like Masscare in place.
He's just obviously really inclined to involve government in health care.
Now here's the thing. I love it here in Utah. And I do realize that Mitt is not a Utahn, but it's also pretty clear he's a serious Mormon (unlike Huntsman, Jr). So I have to use my 9 mos of experience here to try to understand Mitt and his inclinations based on what I've learned of LDS culture. And that experience tells me that the LDS church is into "compassionate conservatism." In Utah perhaps it's not a big deal (I think it's a bad idea but I accept that's how it is) for things that the church wants to be implemented by the state. The church is so pervasive that (nearly) everyone is aligned politically and theologically. The lines are blurred so much that the folks here don't see them. But you can't govern on a national level that way. So, I think it's natural for Mitt to want to involve government in something that should be handled privately - through commerce, charities, churches, what-have-you because that's the LDS way. But I don't want that in my POTUS.
I haven't been able to read his speech (can't find it anywhere) but the quotes I've read from it and the lead up from his campaign to it tell me he doesn't fundamentally get how flawed govt programs like Masscare are. That's really troubling.
And, as much as Utahns love Mitt (and they do), based on conversations my hubby and I have had with our new neighbors, I think Mitt will lose some support here if he sticks with this position. Maybe he still pulls the big money... but maybe he loses some of that, too. We do know a couple of big LDS Palin backers and perhaps if the right candidate threw his hat into the ring, some more might peel off.

He's not. He'll toss Huntsman some love just to prove he's not a bigot.
--
Oh, I know that. Besides, Huntsman spends half his time disavowing his religion.
I think he's disappointed because candidate Huck would have been more effective at whipping up the anti-hereticals than pundit Huck (motivation for votes being a powerful thing) and he would've done the Mormons are Satanists thing again... which would give Huntsman a chance to position himself as the not scare Mormon.

Considering your cracked crystal know-it-all ball, I'm tickled pink with your Palin prediction. Only confirms the feeling I've had all along!
For my Palinista buddies out there -- has anyone ever mentioned Sen. John Barasso, M.D., as a runningmate for teh 'Cuda? He's TEA Party serious and could carry the mantle in '20. I'd normally not suggest a senator since they have such pi$$-poor records, but Barasso is impressive as all get-out when he's on Cavuto. He hasn't missed a single vote. He appears to take his job seriously.

Excellent post for the folks here who can't understand the Huck Hate. Not only did he blame the court system for something parole officers have testified that he insisted on, he says illegals are G-d's children too, and we owe them free tuition, but my favorite Huckster tale is the one where he destroyed the hard drives before he left the AR Gov's mansion.

My "prayers for clarity" were answered.
Huckabee now clearly understands that America doesn't need Huey P Long in the White House.
Now let's get busy nominating somebody who knows something about running a freakin' business enterprise. They have names like Ron Johnson, Darrell Issa, Mitt Romney, Bob Corker, Rick Scott, Herman Cain, Donald Trump.

Then you're most likely voting for Ron Paul. There is no way to explain Romney's flip flops and healthcare. That is why he lost in 2008. It's not a question of which wealthy Mormon with great hair you like best. Read about Huntsman and the NRA or his pro-life record. Utah is the reddest state in the country, and he was reelected with an 80% approval rating. Cato named him one of the top five governors in the country on economics. He has foreign policy experience going back to Bush, Sr. You're free to like him or dislike him, but it's personal from the sounds of it.

No serious GOP candidate wants to run against the President that got Osama Bin Laden. They'll get trounced.
