— Ace He was getting pressured by Fox to make up his mind one way or another (due to their position that they would have to let him go, should he be a live candidate), and a report says he's given the would-be members of his South Carolina political team the go-ahead to work for other candidates.
That's the report, I stress.
This is wacky. I figured he'd run.
He's still at the top of the polls, or close to the top.
I'd run under those circumstances. It's a toss up.
Well, I wouldn't run. I'm lazy. I'd just watch TV.
But if I had greater energy and drive, like Huckabee, I'd run.
Update: At the same Hot Air link, Huck's team denies the story, and says they still haven't decided.

Just saw that; he says he'll make a decision in the summer.

Nah, he'd've done poorly in Iowa and for a known candidate, that's death.
Huh? He'd have to play catch-up with his ground game, but he won IA in 2008 and remains popular there according to the polls.
I don't care for him, but I see little reason to believe that he wouldn't have a good shot at winning IA and SC.

Make up your mind- are the polls meaningless or not? Or are they only relevant if they show her doing well?
Two SC polls released just yesterday:
Huckster 19.1%, 20%
Romney 16.6%, 18%
Palin 10%, 10%
While one should rely too heavily on early polls, especially with regards to lesser-known candidates, she's not nearly as strong in the South as you seem to believe.

Nope. Palin's numerical base is men west of the Appalachians. Huck's is TV-addicted church-lady busybodies who think Palin's a lipstick-wearing whore. The South is full of those.
In what-if? polls where Palin's in and Huck's out, the homeless Huckabites split evenly among anyone-but-Palin. His presence in the race corrals the anti-Palin vote, making him a sort of kingmaker—if she doesn't run. So he's waiting for her not to.

Well, first of all I should make it clear that both Huckabee and Paul are in my view terrible choices, for reasons unrelated to the pragmatist-purist axis.
My priority at this point is getting the most conservative candidate possible nominated. When the party (and Democrat voters in open primary states) has made it's choice, I will vote for him/her/it.
But my point was that events since the recent election have pretty much killed the whole corrosive purity-pragmatism argument around here, and I was wondering why you would bring it up again.

" Integrative Complexity is an accurate indicator of an imminent conflict.
Changes in the integrative complexity of other players indicates an imminent escalation in hostilities
In a related study, "the integrative complexity of the communications of major decision-makers [was found to be] significantly lower during crises that eventually culminate in war than during crises that are resolved peacefully." (pg. 431) Therefore, if you seek peace, try to increase the level of complexity of discussion. Ultimatum type yes/no, black/white discussions are less complex, and are therefore more likely to culminate in war. "

Who knew??

Too soon to say. Romney has to overcome the Romneycare albatross around his neck, probably won't win IA, and may have a tough fight in SC. If he loses those two, I'm not sure that wins in the Mormon states will be enough momentum to drag him over the line. Sort of depends on which version of Mitt we see this time around.
If Pawlenty can close the charisma and name-recognition gap, he could be a contender depending on who actually runs. I wouldn't count Daniels out yet, either.

Iowa's a strange state given the predominance of independent voters. Given we have to register with a party in order to participate in the caucus, it tends to confuse the national forecasts. Not speaking to the blue collar and U of Iowa radical left on the eastern part of the state, much of the state consists of small towns and educated rural folk (where Norwegian Ollie and Lena jokes are common). That's what perplexes me when the news media "elites" write off our rural folk as uneducated; most of my farmer friends in southwest Iowa all have college degrees. The small town attorney I work with a county over graduated in the top of his Princeton law school class. We live here in small Iowa towns because we like the lifestyle, but by no means are we hicks.
So I'd suggest that Huckabee, who tends to require a less thoughtful, more reactive, white socioeconomically challenged lower class voter, will not likely find support in Iowa this time. Our lower class is predominantly Democratic and located on the eastern side of the state, voting how the unions instruct them to.

I have a few of them in my family. Some of their beliefs are odd, but they're good people. Anyone who would not vote for Romney solely on the Mormon issue is the walking definition of intolerant. There, I said it. Besides, there are so many better reasons not to vote Mitt (like socialized medicine).
Is what they believe that much stranger than actually believing that the wafer and wine literally turn into the blood and body of Christ during communion, as Catholics do (or at least are supposed to)? And as far as that goes, how many people really believe in every single tenet laid down by their religion, whether chosen or inherited from birth? Do we know for a fact that Romney buys the whole Joseph Smith story?

Jimi,
I agree with you. I was just questioning the statement that we could replace Mitt with another one of our own if he turns out lousy. I would pull the lever for Mitt in a heartbeat if it came down to him or Obumbles.
Ron Paul or Huckabee topping the ticket might just make me stay home, however. We have to have some standards, after all.

The problem is.......or the reason why I keep saying that Obama is gonna win....is that there is alot of people out there that if they get the sense that the Republican can't win.......they won't even vote.......and the media are experts at this.
By late next summer they will have Conservatives and Independents so demoralized I think everybody is gonna be amazed how big Obama is gonna win!
