24, The Unaired 1994 Pilot
— Ace

It just didn't seem to work in 1994. They had to wait seven years for the world's technology to catch up with the show's pacing.

37 Eh.  I didn't find it all that funny.  Couldn't someone have read the schematics and paged him with the code?

And there were awesome pagers available in 1994.  In fact, there were text message pagers a few years prior to that year.

Also, I find the running to the pay phone ridiculous - a government employee in a fast paced job like that would have had a cellphone.

We weren't cavemen back in the 90s.

I did find the part where the guy cut off the internet funny.  That's it.  Although, did that happen with AOL?  I don't remember being able to cut it off just by picking up the phone.

151 Missed Breaking Bad this season because I didn't keep my eye out for it, and the seasons run so short now, poof it's gone. I agree, there is something peculiar about the Marine One flight. I did see the JEFSCFOAMF walking toward the helicopter with the youngest daughter, but then I saw another pic with the Mooch beside him. I don't know what's real and what's not (old shots, new shots). I do know he would not answer any questions from reporters, looked preoccupied. Personally, I think the gig is up. He thought he could shoot Boehner with a poison arrow over this 8th date, but it backfired, big-time, as he has nothing to offer from his bag of tricks, it has already been downgraded....over a length of time.... these inspired nuggets of ideas will emerge.

The US government is getting scary invasive. It's looking more like a left wing, bureaucratic totalitarian nightmare every day.

I don't fear Canadian bureaucracies, okay, except for Human Rights Tribunals. And I have no real rights to property or free speech. But I don't fear Canadian government authorities. I'm respectful, I play along. They don't scare me.

But every agency in the United States seems to have a regulatory power to make your life a living hell if they focus on you. Your company you built up over a lifetime is using banned wood. These smelt need to be protected; your farmland will have to go dry. The IRS is now coming after Americans in Canada (and the rest of the world) full force and has many people scared. It's pretty damn frightening to me.

Who advises Palin? Oh, do an outdoor "reality" with that Kate person, she's in the news. Keep acting "hillbillyish" when you're not and never have been, keep saying "hockey puck".

168 To men: I breast-fed my two children up until they were just under two years old. Here is a question: Have any studies been done on this obsession with boobs? Did you not drink enough mother's milk? I just answered my own question because half of all babies are female, and do not seem obsessed with seeing other women's boobs. Yet, silicone is the answer for what? Bursting boobs in a bikini, yet feeling is lost. It was a carnival. All of a sudden my "B" boobs became "D" boobs with the milk. Embarrassing, always. Cat-calls, whistles, like I give a shit, my boobs are in pain and have to be milked. My husband and mother would laugh at the public's response to my dilemma, just watching the males drool. They thought this was hilarious.

170 Usenet. BBS. DOS. Ah, folks! Just got through watching Dr Who, then I come here and I feel like I stepped through a time warp. Radio Shack Model I. Originally had a memory of 4K, less some for the built-in rudimentary abbreviated BASIC. (Made my young nephew ROFL this summer to tell him that, while he played online multiplayer games on his laptop.) Later, outboard 5" floppies, a whopping 16K of mem, lower-case conversion by doing surgery on the circuit board. TRS-DOS, then NEWDOS, then DOUBLE-DOS that doubled the 5" disc capacity. Acoustic modem hooked up to BBS at 300baud. Later a zippy 2400 baud actual plug-a-phone-line-in modem card. The geniuses who wrote TAPCIS for access to CompuServe freed me from my own interface sw, but I still had to write my own word processer. Home-made bookkeeping (with checkbook balancing ability!) in VisiCalc macros. A display of 16 lines of 64 characters each. Writing processor-level software for the Z-80 chip (half the commands of the original PC chip) to make 4-dimensional games on a monochrome display with maximum graphics of 128 by 48 blocks (don't call them pixels). I knew what every chip and byte in that computer did. That was the last time, though. Then I were a hacker, by necessity. Now I be (mostly) a user, unavoidably. I just replaced my expired monitor with 1920x1080. Have about 3gig hard drive space on the LAN, sluggish cable internet at 100Mbps. Nearly 50 tabs open in two browser windows. Download hi-res full-length movies and watch them in wide screen. Power I could never imagine having in the late 1970s. And I still can't make these things do what I want half the time. I plugged in that Model I and it said "READY" -- sweet! How could I suspect... they would DESTROY MY LIFE! Sorry. Blubbering in my cider-doused doddering senility. Time to take my rheumy eyes and long gray beard and shuffle off to bed!

171 OMGosh, just read some Palin threads. I am amazed people think she could ever be a viable candidate nationally. Or anywhere really. People must not truly understand how viscerally polarizing she is. Basically all the conservative or right leaning women I know loathe her. And it isn't about any specific policy - it is just about her being herself. She rubs them the wrong way for reasons they can't quite describe. That is all I need to know to understand that Palin is a terrible candidate. Sorry I missed the thread when it was relevant.

172 Prodigy? Jebus in a sidecar... been online since...

1981- Compuserve, Genie, Delphi. Trash 80 with the de-luxe 64K ( not M or G... ) of random access memory...

Drives? Wot's Zat? I used a cassette deck to load data... but the modem plugged in... you didn't have to "dial" a number and place the handset into a cradle, even back then. We even had hot, running water...

But we still walked up to school uphill- in both directions- in those days.
