— Ace Pointing a gun at a soldier's kids?.
You fail at crime.
He waved his gun toward Peoples, who is black, and warned that "the big black guy" shouldn't try to stop him. Before fleeing the bank, he pointed the gun at Peoples' kids, Ikaika and Kioni. "The kid will get it" if anyone messed with him, Rogers said, according to the Herald-Tribune."I could not let that pass," Peoples said.
As the robber tried to make his getaway, Peoples left his sons inside the bank and ran to his rented van, which he used to block Rogers' car in the parking lot.
Let me switch over to another account for the rest.
Peoples said his Army combat training simply took over. He used his left arm to grab and twist the robber's arm until the wrist locked, making it easy for Peoples to strip the gun away. Then he used a martial arts move to wrap one arm behind the robber's neck and slam him face first to the ground.
There's some video here. It's at that last link, if this direct link doesn't work.
Update: Bryan tells me that in that link, the report says the robber was scared enough to have "an accident" in his pants.
Since I'm being Captain Smartypants telling other people how to do crime, I'll do it for this guy too.
You had an enormous black guy in the bank who you immediately sensed would be trouble. You were so preoccupied by him you made a special point of wagging the gun in his face, and telling him not to do anything aggressive, and then even threatened his kids to drive the point home.
So here's the question, genius:
That black guy was going to be done with his business and out of the bank in like ten or twenty minutes. Why didn't you just wait for him to finish his banking business and leave, as you'd already identified him as 240 pounds of trouble?
The bank is not a Chuck-E-Cheese. The guy's not going to have his kids there all day in the bouncy castle or anything.
Were you going for a high degree of difficulty to impress the Romanian judge?
Or did you have a something scheduled for later? Did you have to mail something out at the post office and so you had to hurry up your bank robbery?
I know the post office sucks but let's prioritize our chores here, huh?

The problem is that Holder will now be pressuring the DoD to pursue the SEALs for insufficient muslim sensitivity in a combat operation.

One thing many viewers have probably missed in all the horse-race speculation is that Palin is perfectly willing to discuss her positions on key issues, if anyone wants to ask. In fact, in recent days, weeks, and months, we've seen a lot of policy commentary from the former Alaska governor.
Whole column here.
The last Weiner post has finally given me a framework to understand what my thing is with the anti-Palin sentiment that exists among some here at AOSHQ. It is that the words, the poses, don't fit the fact pattern. For example, Ace says he would be perfectly happy with Palin if she would just go on a barnstorming tour of the talk shows to convince the world that she is smart. But otherwise, it sounds like lame Kos-kiddie "She is teh stoopid!"
Same with the "I was with her until she resigned the governorship" contingent. You know who served out a whole term? Jimmy Carter, and any number of incompetent, corrupt, malicious, and downright evil people who WEREN'T EVEN ON OUR SIDE. Yeah, "Sarah Palin quitter!" Doesn't jibe.
Yeah, I know, early for a Palin flame thread, but I have had 2 cups of coffee already.

Here's the prob, blaster.. She can read speeches and spout policy as well as anyone. We are all convinced she's a very hard-line conservative with all the family values, etc. etc.
But this tour of hers shows exactly what her problem is. She wants to be in control of how she gets her message out. We think she is really terrible when she goes unscripted. She is proving our point by never allowing that.
I will give her the benefit of the doubt. But only as long as she gets into the race in time to be part of debates... several debates. And I agree she needs to hit the talk shows. If she can't take the heat, she needs to get out of the kitchen.

@45 - why is Palin's bus tour a "problem" for you? You think it's the wrong way to run - have you thought maybe she isn't running? Maybe that's why it isn't being run like a normal campaign?
I think she is doing important work for the capital R Right. Her tour isn't called "The Wonderfulness of Being Sarah" it says on the side of the bus "One Nation Under God."
She is out laying groundwork. People are EXCITED to see her, to hear her. In 2010 she went out and helped candidates campaign and win. Not batting a thousand but who does?
And why the backhanded compliment on "she can read policy and speeches..." Did you read York's column?
Palin has also been speaking out in support of Rep. Paul Ryan's budget plan -- another question that Republicans, and certainly all Republican presidential candidates, have had to answer. Palin supports the Ryan plan and even adds that she'd like to include Social Security in the deficit-cutting mix (something Ryan left out). And when Palin criticizes President Obama's inaction on the deficit, even David Brooks, the New York Times columnist who once said Palin "represents a fatal cancer to the Republican Party," observes that, "Sarah Palin is right about that. He has no plan."
I have for a while used Lincoln's dictum about Grant - "I cannot spare this man he fights." That's important in a party that too often seems to think that lying down and not struggling will make it hurt less. Fight is a good thing, but not the only thing.
Perhaps a better General analogy would be to Patton v. Eisenhower. Palin is more in the Patton mold than in Eisenhower's. She ruffles a lot of feathers. But she fights, and she makes the bad guys hurt (Party like its 1773 anyone?) and draws their attention and fire. (1st US Army Group?)
She is on our side, and she's helping us win. Why people on the good side want to hate on her I don't understand.

I don't quite understand the argument that you have to be from the area where a sports team is located in order to be a "true" fan of that team. My former boss was a huge San Diego Chargers fan, and she grew up in Las Vegas before coming to New Hampshire. And here in New England we have plenty of Yankees fans (which is fun when they're at a BoSox sports bar), not to mention Jets and Giants fans. My dad grew up in New Jersey, but he was a Green Bay fan in his younger days. So I don't get the hostility. I mean, if you can't be a fan of a sports team because you don't live in their home area, then what do the people in Montana do during NFL season?
Am I missing something?
On a slightly related side note, as a native New Englander I'm a Patriots fan by default. One thing that drives me absolutely nuts is when folks call the Patriots a Boston team. They are not a Boston team. Gillette Stadium is not in Boston; it's in Foxboro, twenty miles away. They are a REGIONAL team. Hence the damn name.
That drives me up a wall.

The guy asked the gals if they lived here in Virginia. One said "No..we live in NoVa. We never say just Virginia". He asked why.
The other said because NoVa is cool and progressive the rest of Virginia is full of uneducated, racist hillbillies.

Jeff, Jeff, you are the only one I can talk to. You have such a kind face.
That dirty Ace did dirty things to me. I have pictures. Would you like to see them?

The real question is how ttsb winds up being pronounced cktz or sss depending on how many Rrn's have been consumed.

Great job Sgt. EDDIE Peoples, now why did you saddle your sons with the names Ikaika and Kioni?

Hrothgar.
Judging from the stuttering jackass infesting the white house, the wiener wielder monopolizing this blog, the greasy muppet from Florida spewing insane jibberish at the head of the DNC (Waterlogged-Scheiss), the bleached blue toothed imbecile serving as VP, and so on- it appears the Democrats don't have much use for them either, Hrothgar.

(a) No reaction - he did it on leave, and they'd rather not touch it.
(b) Soldier's Medal - he put his life at risk to defend others in a situation not involving the enemy
(c) reprimand, formal or informal, because it could have gone wrong.
"If it works you're a hero, if it doesn't you're a bum" comes to mind.
All depends on his chain of command, I guess.

If you listen to the news report at the end of the second link the reporter concludes that "he was so scared when Peoples took him down that he had an accident in his pants." So he shit himself after he got his ass kicked.

Whatever.. Like I said.. I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she will prove me wrong when she gets into the debates. Canned speeches by any of the candidates do not impress me, not just Sarah. I get very frustrated thinking about another 4 years with jugears and keep hoping another Reagan will appear and sweep all the other candidates out of the way. Unfortunately, we're out of Reagan's this year..

And to whoever it was that said I think Ryan is radical.. you don't listen to what I type..
I said it was dumb politically to put out that plan and even dumber to put it into the budget. It will cost us votes in 2012. (My opinion of the plan itself is that it makes unrealistic assumptions, thus making it unworkable in the long run and costing us even more seats.)

Thank you Staff Sgt Peoples, for your service and your anti-hobo-bank-robbing skills.
Empire of Jeff: I think you need to start an advice column, not just for old wimmen, but for anyone with a whine of the day. I would read it, as it would surely be more colorful than Dear Abby.
