Aero E?  Hello from a fellow Town Engineering resident (Civil Engineering, 1991).

A lot of talk on the postgame call in shows about how this will be a "transformative" win for ISU.  I don't know if this is a turning point for the program, but I do think we're going to see the fanbase expect to beat the teams we're supposed to beat now and have the team get to six wins even during down years.

Watched the game from my recliner in Pennsylvania.  I had no particular rooting interest BUT: You could smell upset right from the start. Cyclone fans Enjoy it! Wish we had something to cheer about here.

 

5 I thought this was a snarky post. The last time I saw the score it was OK St 24 and IA St 7 and I kept on flipping channels thinking the game was going just as expected.

Have they set up a LSU/AL showdown for the national title now? I mean round one was pretty good between the two.

6 Congrats to ISU (I have to root against any team whose uniforms are as butt ugly as Oklahoma State's are...battleship gray? really? good grief! Great color there...for painting your junky utility room at home.)...I just hope this doesn't mean a rematch between LSU and Alabama. The BCS system is boring enough without having a boring replay of a sloppy, boring game like the first LSU/Alabama game in the championship game. Yeah, I know the first game was close and tense...and sloppy as hell.

JAG...man, I don't think it'll happen...doubt the NCAA/BCS will have them paired again, even though it would be the best game.  Don't believe the NCAA/BCS likes/wants a rematch for the title...

12 Since I'm a hard core LSU / SEC guy I personally would like to see a Bama-LSU rematch, but after the 9-6 missed FG fest last time around I can certainly understand why others whose loyalties lie outside the conference wouldn't.

That said, if they both win out I think that's exactly what will happen ... who is going to leapfrog Bama in the human polls, and because of SOS there's no way to pass them in the computer rankings.

I'd be cool with either Oregon or OU (or whoever else shows up for that matter) come January, I just hope we don't lay an egg along the way.

13 Rick, I'm hoping my Dawgs knock off LSU in the title game to spare the country this fate. Of course, we have to get past Kentucky first, and it would be a typical UGA snatch of defeat from the jaws of victory to lose this one. Congrats, Russ. I remarked on Twitter last night when it was going to OT that no matter how it turned out you got your money's worth. Hell of a game.

14 I hope its Oregon/LSU. The week one rematch, but it iwill probably be LSU/Bama because Bama is undefeated in regulation. The thing about Oregon is that when teams have time to prepare for their offense, Oregon gets beat. They lost on opening day, I believe they lost either the last 2 or 2 of the last 3 bowl games, cant remember which.

Yikes.  Seems to me that if Arkansas beats LSU then Alabama will go the SEC conference championship game (because they beat Arkansas 38-14 earlier in the year), even though LSU beat Bama straight up.  Then, if Georgia beat Bama in Atlanta, Arkansas could wind up playing Oregon or OU in the NCG w/o even having won their division much less their conference.  I need an Alka-Seltzer.

Just a point of order:  When I said that the ISU defense held Okie State to 24 points in regulation, I was wrong.

 

OSU's defense scored 7 of those points on an interception return.  So our defense only let their offense score 17 points.

Ok, I'm gonna be a dick for saying this, but when the offense turns the ball over, they become the defense.  And, you're defense still allowed them to score.  So, technically, you were correct the first time.  I realize you wanted to parse out the "regular" defense vs the "offense-turned-defense" defense.

Don't worry about the nitpik, and bask in the win!  I'm pretty sure a few football players in Ames got lucky last night.  Bastards...

Hopefully, it will be better but probably still a defensive struggle.  I don't find those boring , but I understand that many do.

Honestly, I expect the BCS to figure out a way to bump Alabama back down to #3 to prevent an SEC-SEC championship game if it comes down to that.  I won't even complain, much.  We had our chance to go undefeated and losing to LSU was all on us.

Of course, if Auburn beats Alabama, or Arkansas pulls the upset against LSU, it will be moot anyway.

It doesn't matter who plays if LSU wins out.  It's a home game in NOLA for them.  If LSU loses, it'll be Alabama and Oregon, no matter what OU does.  ESPN and the coastal media control the polls (for the most part), and the money wants teams from high media density areas in the championship.  Cynical?  You bet.

26 Oh, yeah.  Seriously, congratulations to Iowa State.  They played (especially defense) very well all night and capitalized on the Cowchokes mistakes well.  Big win!!

Except Alabama lost head to head with LSU.  Unless it's a blow-out by Arkansas, LSU will still win the SEC West, and the SEC, probably, so I don't know how they would drop below Oregon.

29 The brother is an ISU ConE, finished in 05 I think.  I did my grad work as a Hawkeye, and have lived in the southeast for the last few years.  This has to be the best ISU team in quite a while.  The Iowa defeat was amazing, but this is really impressive and they were both great games to watch.  And would be great to have a good program for the non-Illinois half of the state. 

And yes, if I have to listen to every sport talking head that can fight his way in front of a camera or microphone to tell us how great the SEC is and how badly we need to see a series of missed field goals over 50 yards determine who gets the title this year I will kill Steak Shaprio myself.

It's cold and rainy here, so I can't work outside, and Alabama plays an out of conference game that holds no excitement for anyone unless they screw it up.

I think I'll have to start my drinking early.

35 If you're a true Okla. State, as I am, then you knew OK State could lose this game easily.

The only thing it takes is for one team to have a good game and the other to have a bad game.

Sorry I didn't get here last night. Just sobering up in central Iowa. I live 8 miles from Jack Trice stadium and we could hear the crowd from here.

And, thanks to this win the Clones are now bowl eligible!

 

37 Russ, Hey again from Town Engineering Alums. Blogging at 3AM doesn't work well -(Left Coast is not conducive to interactive blogging). ISU football went 8-3 several years in my day, with the charasmatic Earl Bruce - not. Favorite chant then was - up the midle, up the middle, up the middle and punt - Yeah Earl. We would beat either Nebraska or Oklahoma, then lose to either Missouri or Colorado. Good times.
