It's On: House To Vote On ObamaCare Repeal Next Week
— DrewM

The Days of Don't Ask, Don't Tell and DREAM Act are over.

Back to work.

House Republicans will vote next week to repeal the new health care law, making good on a top-tier GOP campaign promise and setting up a showdown with President Barack Obama over his signature domestic policy achievement.

Majority Leader-elect Eric Cantor announced the timeline for considering the repeal legislation Monday: the bill will post on the Rules Committee website Monday night, the Rules Committee will meet Thursday, and the rule for the debate will be considered on the House floor Friday. The repeal vote will follow on Wednesday, Jan 12.

"Obamacare is a job killer for businesses small and large, and the top priority for House Republicans is going to be to cut spending and grow the economy and jobs,” Cantor spokesman Brad Dayspring said in a statement. “Further, ObamaCare failed to lower costs as the president promised that it would and does not allow people to keep the care they currently have if they like it. That is why the House will repeal it next week.”

The MFM will dismiss this as symbolic and let's be honest, it is (it's DoA in the Senate and even if it weren't, there's Obama's veto). Still, symbols are important. The public sent a message in November about jobs and the economy (the GOP is smart to tie them to health care) and the Democrats responded with START, DREAM Act and repealing DADT.

With health care/economy back on the agenda it's advantage Republicans.

The names of the Democrats who vote for repeal.  That will be symbolic.

This.

Besides, I'd love to see it in the Senate: There are 47 Republicans who know it would be suicide not to vote for repeal, and... how many Democrats are up for re-election in 2012?  I bet you could get a number of them to vote for it, too.  It wouldn't take many to get to 50.  But you would need 60 to get cloture, and I'm not sure how close we could get to that.  But the fight would be awesome.

16 The only way stuff ever gets changed is if it gets done in a hurry, so this works for me. If this actually happens, it'll bring Little O's list of accomplishments down to: - Collapsed the economy - Played golf. Lotsa golf. Lotsa dems got hung out to dry and lots re-election bids in the quest for Obamacare, and this'd set up an awesome STFU speech for the new year.

17 The Senate Dems will be blocking it:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada said earlier Monday that Democrats in that chamber will block any attempt to repeal the landmark legislation extending coverage to more than 30 million uninsured people.

This statement reminds me of the scene in Good Will Hunting, when Robin Williams asks a clueless dolt in his class why trust is important for a psychotherapist, and he responds "Trust is life".  Williams ponders this turd for a moment, and then says condescendingly, "that's very profound".

27 Maybe it is DOA in the Senate.  Send it to them anyway.  Remind them, early and often, that they will eventually face re-election too.  There are elections in 2012 and 2014.  Each Senator can either vote in favor of the repeal, or opt to spend more time with their families at the hands of the voting public.

There are Super Bowls, and there are Olympic Gold Medals. You can cheat during the Super Bowl and win, and that's that: you're Super Bowl Champion for that year, forever. But Olympic medals can be taken away.

Obama cheated like hell to get elected (campaign contributions from overseas) and everyone knows it but no one talks about it because the result can't be reversed. He's the 44th President, and he'll always be the 44th President.

But his Health Care Reform Act is complete horseshit; everyone knows that, too. Take it away.

Anything granted can be taken away.

They shouldn't attach unrelated shit to any bill.

Define "unrelated."  One of the issues of Obamacare is the budget consequences, so attaching it to the debt limit increase (if they go the route of passing that) seems reasonable enough to me.  The otherwise stand alone budget for HHS would be a good one, too.

Attach it to the budget bill, the debt ceiling bill, every appropriations bill -- especially those the Senator From Harrah's supports -- except those relating to military needs.

Attach it to everything that comes out of the House. Senators don't read the bills they pass, anyway. A day will come when the Mohammedan Mouthpiece will be too busy practicing golf swings to check what he's signing, and the sonumbish will let it slip by.

Ben Nelson of Nebraska (Already hated the Health Care bill)
Bob Casey, Jr. of Pennsylvania (Just elected Senator Toomey)
Jim Webb of Virginia (Purplish-Red)
Joe Manchin of West Virginia (Purple- and not too fond of the Health Care Bill IIRC)

With our 47 (assuming the line holds) that's 53.  We'd only need 7 more to "Hear the Call of History" and vote for cloture.

Then let BOHICA veto it.

Or start adding to every bill that the "General Welfare" clause means it must affect everyone equaly, thus exemptions will not be allowed, either at the Personal, Company, or State level.

But then, heck, I would have added that to the lawsuit to repeal the dang thing anyway... as it gives to much power to unelected Staff to exempt groups, and thus flies in the Face of "Equal Protection" and "General Welfare".

He was a rep, not a senator....and he was mine.  So glad the bastard is gone.  He really started pi$$ing on his constituents, and conservatives in general before he lost his reelection to Trey Gowdy.

84 Repeal won't pass the Reid-lead Senate, but the House can make everyone take a public stand on how they really feel about Obamacare repeal.

I'm really liking the idea of placing "The Health Care Reform Act of 2009 [Or whatever it was called (AG)] is hereby repealed," in random places through out "must pass" bills like budgets, Medicare appropriations, etc.

88 A symbol is not a symbol if it aids a cause that brings victory down the road. If it helps shape the battlefield.

Some argue that the Alamo or Thermopylae are symbols.  Lost fights in and of themselves that changed everything that came afterward in those wars.

Luckily we have a chance to make all the shitweasels fall in line behind Obama's unconstitutional boondoggle.
Democrats won't be able to hide in the jungle on these votes. Make them monthly occurrences.  Let every socialist douche stand up to be counted defending Obamacare.

Then we defund the awful somebitch before it takes root and grows.

Shit, we might even win.

92 Just little old Barry Soetoro, illegitimate son of God-knows- who.

Soetoro is his stepfather's name.  If it shows up in his BC, it is because his mom amended it and he (or she) changed it back.

Which may be the motivation for keeping it hidden, he never acknowledged the possibility that he had carried an Indonesian passport.

@84

Kratos,

It doesn't matter if it passes the Senate at first. It can be used as a wedge on every piece of legislation moving forward.

"Oh you want a Spending Bill...Compromise on this piece of ObamaCare then!"

"Oh you want a Defense Bill.....Compromise on this piece of ObamaCare then!"

"Oh you want Amnesty...Compromise on this piece of ObamaCare then!"

etc...etc...etc

The Republicans can play that game till the cows come home, because their base is demanding it....they can do no wrong with this strategy. Once The Democrats get the picture...of course Obama will never admit to it publically...but privately ObamaCare will start to be dismantled. Just as long as the idiot left believes that Republicans are evil for doing this...Obama will fold like a cheap suit!

95 Price of bailing out California = Repeal Obamacare

Posted by: this shit delende est at January 03, 2011 02:30 PM (L6ppJ)

96 Deem it not to have passed. Since it was only deemed to have passed (i.e., the passing took place at some indefinite time before the deeming), deeming it not to have passed merely revises history in the same way the original deeming did, which is apparently acceptable.

Then, since it didn't pass the House, it was never validly sent on to the President for signing and is not law.

Wheee!

100 A vote to repeal death panels? I'm fer it.

Vote it over and over and over. Make it zombie legislation like the Democrats/RINOs want amnesty legislation. Get Step One of Two of Socialized Medicine (aka ObamaCare) emblazoned on the foreheads of these Statists.

The icing on the cake? Watching the MFM and Progressive strategists (BIRM) fight to redefine the words for "death panel." The icing on the icing? It's a term Palin used early and, as perceived, often.

And don't follow Krauthammer's lead of attacking only on the policy side. Go for the funding, too. This is a hill to die on.

107 I say put this into every bill: "The Health Care Reform Act of 2009 is summarily repealed." Put it in the beginning of some, the end of others, in the middle of most. Put it in three or four or sixteen times. Since English isn't our official language, insert it in Estonian and Faroese so they can't Ctrl-F for certain terms.

Yeah. We have to pass those bills to see what's in them.

Posted by: arhooley, conflicted Californian at January 03, 2011 03:31 PM (pbiuo)

108 Tie the debt cieling bill to the repeal of Obamacare. The Democrats can't do one without doing the other as well. Lets see if they have the stones to close down the government because they want to bankrupt the nation on healthcare. I dare them. I double dog dare them.

109 Haven't read all the comments so I don't know if this has been mentioned, but Harry Reid has control over what comes to the floor.  This bill will never see the light of day in the Senate.

Having said that, Boehner should use that big ass gavel to announce that repeal has passed the house.

Repeal ObamaCare and watch the economy take off and surge ahead.

ObamaCare - despite all the soraing rehtoric and false promises (it's free!) (and the cover-up by our dumb media as to who is going to pay for it all)- ObamaCare is bad bad bad for economic growth and hiring.  If it were so rosey-- why is ObamaCare already set aside for the democrat's union buddies? hmmm?

116 No problem, if the asshole demcong want to keep supporting the socialist in chief, the house has what it takes to shut off the funding to this bullshit socialist third world healthcare idea.  Then the states can challenge it under the "unfunded mandate" concept and they will get it ruled unconstitutional.  The current crop of lawsuits to get it ruled unconstitutional should continue and eventually we will make it so hard for the mulatto in the white house to get anything done that he will go home so he does not have to work so hard any more.
