— Ace Geoff's chart continues to make news, even though Geoff has moved on from the blog for real life.
Actually the folks at e21 are updating it, but Pethokoukis notes how continuingly awesome it is.
Unemployment continues to be above where Obama predicted it would be without the stimulus; that is, according to Obama's promises and projections, we would have been far better off simply not having a stimulus at all. Unemployment would be lower and we'd have an extra trillion in mad money to play with, if we felt like it.
In related news, because I said so, TMZ reports that Weiner offered PR help to Ginger Lee in crafting a lie to cover their, um, "frivolous exchanges between friends."
I need frivolous friends like this, I tell you what.
No seriously, we now return to our regular not-so-much-dick format. But how can I pass up on this?
See, this is a post about economics. It just has this bonus material.
Via Gabe for the employment stuff and Slublog for the deployment stuff. Those are their Twitter handles, btw, if you want to follow.

“Congressman Weiner’s actions and deception are unacceptable and he should resign. We do not need an investigation to know he lied and acted inappropriately, we need a resignation. Either Leader Pelosi and DNC Chair Wasserman Schultz believe members of Congress are held to a different set of standards or they believe these actions demand his resignation.”

Well, other than if you count Dodd-Frank's (oh, the irony) attempt to grotesquely over-regulate the financial markets and further depress growth.
Fannie- Freddie? Who dat?
Read it and weep;

"Almost 40% of homeowners who took out second mortgages—extracting cash from their residences to cover everything from vacations to medical bills—are underwater on their loans, more than twice the rate of owners who didn't take out such loans."

To those who say that Bush's economy was worse than we thought, I will remind them that that excuse was already used BEFORE Porkulus. Remember Biden and the rest of the brain trust kept saying that this recession was the worst since the Great Depression. Now on your third look, you decide its worse-worse.
Then ask, now that Obama knows how bad it really is and knows that his plan hasn't worked, what policy changes have been proposed by Obama to fix it. If there are any, how they working out?

The worst thing is, we got nothing for Porkulus.
In Michigan, the governments are still working out the final details to get up a second bridge which is sorely needed since a HUGE amount of trade between Canada and the United States goes through the current tunnel and over the existing Ambassador bridge. Yes, a large part of the problem deals with the current owner of the Ambassador bridge fighting a second bridge, but still....
For such a vital artery of North American trade, you'd think that a couple of billion could have been put to actual use, everything fast tracked and work begun. Nah. As it is, if you took a small anatomically correct Rep Weiner doll and used it's 'pointer' to point to anything Porkulus funded, you couldn't point to anything substantial.

People are stupid. i watched all these Vegas dildos go out and buy huge houses on 80/20 loans, then get another big fat equity loan to buy car/boat/furniture/ fill in the blank and then cry because they are under water. Even if you pulled money out of equity for MEDICAL...please....it is only equity for the minute you appraise the house. It is not realized until you sell the house. It is a bigger gamble than a slot machine at the 7/11. I have NO pity for those people, even less for the banks that were willing to make the bet aginst getting theb house back. Unfortunatley, I do pity ME for being on the hook to bail the banks out.

Anyone have good internet Chart-Fu?
The BLS also publishes historic numbers on the % of people EMPLOYED in America... which I think is a better indication of the employment numbers since they have 'changed' the metric whereby they count who is unemployed.
Unemployed used to mean you did not have a job... now they take all kinds of people out of the employment pool, making todays numbers squewed when compared to historic numbers... thus the above chart is really comparing Apples and Orangatangs...

President Obama's first question is on the economy. He says, "I'm not concerned about a double-dip recession."
Rather, Obama says, he's worried that the economy isn't creating jobs "as quickly as I want it to happen."
Reflecting on Friday's jobs data, which he didn't address that day while he was at a car plant in Ohio, Obama says that before May, there was "very robust job growth." But in May, it "slowed down."
"We don't yet know whether this is a one-month episode or a longer trend," he says. He notes that gas prices are one of the "headwinds" that might have affected that. (11:55 a.m.)
Obama uses the opportunity to talk about energy, calling for a policy that "can bring some stability to the world." And he says that "every morning when I wake up," he's thinking about how to get Americans jobs.
"One of the things IÂ’m going to be interested in exploring with the members of both parties in Congress is, how do we continue some of these policies to make sure we get these policies up and running in a robust way," he says.
Obama then calls for changing the "tax system" to make it simpler, and "getting a handle on our deficit in a way that is balanced and sensible."
"We are on the path of a recovery, but itÂ’s got to accelerate, and thatÂ’s going to require a continuation of a lot of the steps that I just discussed," he says. (11:58 a.m.)
...
Obama says people are "understandably frustrated," all around the world, "with the us and downs of the economy." And, perhaps indicative of his economic pitch to voters for his reelection, he says that it's "important for folks to remember how close we came to complete disaster." (12:12 p.m.)
The economic recovery, President Obama says, will be "uneven" -- even while progress is being made, people will be "skittish and nervous," along with the markets, he says.
But despite what happens in the marketplace and what the "headlines" say, Obama says, "our task is to not panic."
"Our job is to set a course for the medium and the long term that ensures that not only our economies grow but that the world economy is stable and prosperous, and I think we can do that together," he says. (12:15 p.m.)

Ace, the unemployment chart showing how the stimulus didn't do what the geniuses at the White House predicted and Weinergate are actually two sides of the same coin. The coin in question is called "These Are The People Who Think They Can Run Everything!" They not only can't do their jobs correctly (fixing the economy), they can't run their private lives correctly and without embarrassing all of us (Weiner).
So don't think Weinergate was a "frivolous" focus for all of us. It actually was closer to being a metaphor for what ails our society. We have elites who pretend to be smarter than all of the rest of us, but they don't know what ought to be rudimentary for any halfway decent high-school boy... don't send pictures of your pecker over the Internet to strangers. Yet they want to tell us what kind of light bulbs we can buy.

"Our job is to set a course for the medium and the long term that ensures that not only our economies grow but that the world economy is stable and prosperous, and I think we can do that together," he says.
This is SCARY.
It shows he is worried about the world economy, NOT ours.
Dude... you are the US President... not a F'n Citizen of the World...

__________
Anothing chart I'd like to see would be that deficit bar graph with a line running through it showing where halving the Bush deficits would be.
Better would be a short Youtube video that plunks the bars down one at a time until the end of the Bush years, then cuts to Obama promising to half the deficit, draws that line across the chart, then plunks the Obama bars down.

You think this economy is stressed!
We're going to Africa in a couple of weeks and, what I ask you, is the First Lady going to wear?
I'm stressed!

How can this country vote Democratic after studying a chart like that, and then thinking back to all the propoganda?
I just don't understand the majority of my fellow Americans! I get called a Racists almost on a daily basis, I don't even hardly notice anymore, why are there so many still so worrying by being called Racist?

Well....Look at the bright side.....if this keeps up at least Obama will be out in 2012...of course we get stuck with T-Paw, Romney or Palin.
That can't possibly be as bad as Obama and his Ilk.

If the JEF were trying to destroy our economy, what would he be doing differently?
This is the direct result of the political cancer of "progressivism," something I hit this morning over at my place. The numbers speak for themselves. Ever since Queen Nancy and her Botox Boys took over Congress in '07, we've been on a downhill slide that is breathtaking in its speed, as someone noted upthread.
When will the rest of the country figure out that the "progressive" movement is actively killing us? It's a deliberate effort to rename an anti-American political wing, gussy it up, and make it sound all innocent and shit.
And it's working. I'd like to see Leno do one of his "man on the street" skits and ask people what they though of "progressives." I'm willing to bet that most of the sheeple would think there's nothing wrong with it based on nothing more than the tradidional meaning of the word, not what the political movement actually stands for.

In my experience...everybody who votes Decmoratic has no idea of what the "Progressive Movement" even is.
They just want to feel good, and be cool. They perceived Obama as being Cool, and they thought his rhetoric sounded good...and that was good enough for them.

Good idea... but go back and add a Line in where the Dems took over Congress as well...
After all, it IS Congress who has the power of the purse, and that needs to be pointed out to people.
