— Ace The title. Oh dear Lord, the title.
I'm just reading it now.
But, does anyone think that "venture socialism" might maybe become a catchphrase? I do.
The demise of Solyndra, the bankrupt solar panel company showered with more than a half-billion dollars in stimulus loans, exposes the fatal flaw of President Obama’s jobs plans.Government officials rushed $535 million to Solyndra because the Obama administration was determined to make the company the centerpiece of its green agenda regardless of the law of supply and demand. Billions more have been wasted by politicians betting on favored companies and making Washington bigger, using the brute force of government to force liberal preferences into the economy. Mr. Obama calls them “investments,” but this is really venture socialism.
The entire purpose of the $825 billion stimulus bill was to sink government money into politically advantageous projects...
The Obama economy is littered with billion-dollar busts. Yet Mr. Obama is advocating massive tax increases that would, in part, pay for more of his “investments.” If his new jobs bill were made law, it would create a new, permanent National Infrastructure Bank to fund even more green energy projects - a permanent venture socialism fund.
...
[T]here is a much-needed lesson to be learned from Solyndra for Republicans and Democrats alike. Playing investor on the taxpayersÂ’ dime wonÂ’t rebuild the economy, it will destroy it.
Great read. Even greater title.

Well, he'd better shape up then since Mitt was quick to distance himself from the "socialist" label others in the debate were using to describe Obama's policies. Can't have any of that kind of talk now, can we? Next thing you know he'll be calling Social Security a Ponzi scheme! The horror, the horror!

Well, it is racist to point this kind of thing out.
But not if Bush Did It.
It is interesting how these idiot liberals comingle every little thing they do into some sort of racist soup...
It is racist not to drive an electric car, for instance.
See, that was easy. You can call a guy, or woman, who doesn't drive an electric car a racist.
Why? Because.
The real reason: the leftist philosophy of tribalism

"The glass-and-metal building that Solyndra LLC began erecting alongside Interstate 880 in Fremont, California, in September 2009 was something the Silicon Valley area hadnÂ’t seen in years: a new factory.
It wasnÂ’t just any factory. When it was completed at an estimated cost of $733 million, including proceeds from a $535 million U.S. loan guarantee, it covered 300,000 square feet, the equivalent of five football fields. It had robots that whistled Disney tunes, spa-like showers with liquid-crystal displays of the water temperature, and glass-walled conference rooms."

It took me about thirty seconds to find out on the Internet that hydroelectric power is the cheapest source of energy at $.03 per kWh. Nuclear and coal are second at $.04 per kWh. Wind comes in at $.08 per kWh. But solar comes in at a whopping $.22 per kWh, or something more than seven times as expensive as hydroelectric power. Hydroelectric power -- dams for you Democrats out there -- is renewable energy too, but you never here the leftists plumping for more dams, because dams aren't environmentally friendly, I guess. Or, more probably, for Obama, they aren't "cool" enough for the "cool kids." Dams don't count as "green" technology, you see. They just work.
In any event, it seems pretty clear to me that solar is a bad investment. Indeed, I really didn't need the data to know that -- by definition if an investment is worth making, private investors would already be making it. And, conversely, if an investment requires government subsidies, it's because the marketplace, filled with savvy people acting on good information and putting their own money at risk, has already decided that its a bad investment.
Government needs to get out of the business of subsidizing selected businesses, period. It's bad economics, since they invariably will only subsidize bad investments that the private sector has concluded aren't going to produce good returns; and it's bad for our civilization, since it's so obviously an opportunity for graft and corruption.

Basically, it's because for lefties, "fascist" has no meaning. There's some authoritarianism there, but that's about it.
"I often like to ask college kids, except for the murder, bigotry, and
genocide, what is it exactly about Nazism that you don't like? And they
can't name anything. But, conservatives can come up with all sorts of
stuff. They were socialists. They wanted free health care. They hated
Christianity. They hated tradition. They were statists at the end of the
day. All of those things are inherent to fascism..." -- Jonah Goldberg

Did you go to college? What did you major in?
Do you have a job? What kind of work is it and what kind of industry is it in?
Nobody on this website is as secretive as you are for a very simple reason, you aren't interested in even the kind of low-level friendship that comes with posting on a blog.
You bitch and whine and complain whenever confronted. I get hounded about being anti-lawyer all the time. I defend myself and take it and move on. But you can't stand a bit of it.
If you hate us so much, leave. LEAVE.

Venture Socialism is Gold. It should appeal to everyone that can read. We still need a nice slogan for those who can't or don't.
or the 52% that WON'T
those are the ones that boggle my mind.

Hmmm. I wonder who they bought all
that stuff from. I'd like to know if the whole thing wasn't basically
just a way to funnel money to other cronies.
Well, yeah. And if I were someone who had invested my actual money in this venture (not just a screwed over taxpayer) and lost all my money due to bankruptcy because of crap like this, I'd be hunting someone down. Building a factory like that is so far beyond absurd, it is practically criminal.

Dick Morris Panders To Conservatives With This Story
No doubt conservatives will bite. [Ben]
Dick Morris has been wrong so many times you would have to be terminal stupid to believe anything he said.

AmishDude,
In the interest of accuracy, I hate you because of your stupid hat and the beard. But mostly the stupid hat.

The part of their bankruptcy filing that might say who got what and who's owed what doesn't seem to be online, but I did think it was interesting that their bankruptcy lawyer had been paid THIRTY MILLION DOLLARS—as of his petitioning to be recognized as their representative in the bankruptcy case—and his firm gets as much as $3000/hour to work on it from then on.
So, next to Solyndra's building contractor, McDermott, Will & Emery has probably been given the largest number of your stolen dollars.
And they've given a lot of those dollars "back" to the GOP (they didn't become majority-D donors until 2008 (oh hey they like Scott Brown)), so...tough shit, serfs.

the problem isn't even solydra, you got jon stewart and the times et al out there saying that the green economy is still a legit investment because all the other billions we've sunk into ventures haven't gone belly up like it did with this "startup". but ace may have already posted that the green investment has cost us something like $4million per job?! those are astounding sums of money, and makes all of us much, much poorer ever time this is done. these are simple laws of economics. you plunder money from the taxpayer and build a $1 billion airport in the middle of nowhere that gets no traffic. it's the same problem, inefficient investment makes us poorer, no question about it. heck, all this stupid political pay-off capital would have revived the economy much better as a helicopter drop sort of distribution. that's effing keynesian. why did they not do that? because it wouldn't have gone to the people who needed paying off. it's evil, it is indeed socialism, and it will make everyone less well off. those jokers on the left will never acknowledge that because it will prevent them from doing the same crap in the future.

I can think of another example.
Electronic medical records in the HITECH part of ARRA.
Google "healthcare IT failure"
Oh, did I mention the National Program of IT in the NHS (NPFIT) just went bust, at a waste of only 13 billion pounds Sterling?
