Well, here's the thing: Obama isn't friends or family.

Instead of Kaus's metaphor of a spendthrift wife, Obama is more the guy you invted to the party because he seemed really, really cool.  Only after he got to the party with a bunch of his friends, he started hassling your friends, hitting on your wife, making obnoxious and insulting jokes -- in short, he pretty much ruined everyone's fun.  And you began to hate him for screwing up your party.

So you and your friends and family held a little intervention, kicked out some of the troublemakers who he brought with him to the party, and told him to clean up his act if he wanted to keep hanging around.  And lo and behold, when he realized you'd kicked out a bunch of his friends, he stopped being so obnoxious.

I am surprised Ace is taking this polls seriously. If you look at the internals of the polls that got Obama over 50% you'll find that they polled 10% more democrats than republicans and 11% more Obama voters than McCain voters. They also polled between 15 and 20% unregistered adults who don't vote at all.

Even Rassmussen was guilty of it as he had the same approval rating that the NBC poll had with an 11% bias.

The reason Obama is up in the polls is because the pollsters wanted him to be up in the polls. It keeps people interested in them and doesn't cost them anything because there is no election in the near future to prove them wrong.

Those arguments are all terrible -- counterproductive, even.  The only valid argument for electing a Black President is that the Black candidate in question is the best person for the job out of the field that's running.
