From the link: "a warning that even passion for righteousness can be turned to evil, precisely because it is passion."
Bullshit. Moderates are bed-wetters. You do not get anything done by being in the middle, luxurating in your ennui, being apathetic, and lulling yourself to complacency with fear of stepping a toe into an actual well-reasoned opinion.
I'd rather be "persecuted for the sake of righteousness" than to stand knee deep in the muck and slime ignoring the fact that the tide was coming in.
These assholes are afraid that people are going to see what they are doing and are using every means at their disposal to shut it up or stop of the ears of those who dare pay attention.

well I certaintly am no Beck fan (Hell I could write a whole book on how he's distorted, exaggerated, and butchered history and info to add a little bit of paranoia into sound arguments which end up doing no help to those arguments.) and i'm certatintly not a fan of the whole professor looking down on you while lecturing for a whole hour format, this article is a joke.
Somehow people of the left and squishy conservatives that anything that rallies against leftists ideas which are failing all around the world in front of our own eyes and has failed even when implemented by Republicans Presidents in more moderate policies, is somehow all a bunch of hateful right wing rhetoric. Forget the trillions in debt and deficit, the decline of us as a superpower, or the society that is being brought down, forget it all because we need the unicorns and rainbows Obama and the lefties promise us.

I have a friend, 84 year old Jewish woman. She told me yesterday that she always watched Two and a half men....but no more.
When she said 'he was really good in that show', I responded 'that's because he doesn't have to act, it's a natural part for him.' She cracked up.

ok so? some of the best movies/books/music have been by lefties and I just laugh at their idiocy and enjoy the creative work they've done; one of the best examples would be Stephen King, a major lefty douchebag who's writing I can't help but enjoy
afterall lefties sometimes make the mistake of arguing an idea and come to find it's a conservative idea.
rant on/ also Off-Topic sort of but i'm really sick of this idea by conservatives of snickering at the oscars or anything else in the enetertainment world, "Oh I haven't seen the 10 best pic nominees and don't plan to.", those who do so miss out on great films/books/music that can actually inspire conservative thought. Yes Hollywood is bias and seem to not give a damn about middle America as the oscar ratings will show, but why lie down and allow the art world that inspires and motivates to be dominated by lefties. I'm with Breitbart on this one; call out the BS in the art world and inspire more conservatives to get involved. snickering, "Eww Hollywood, liberal message books, that leftists music." isn't going to help any. We win in the free market, let's take advantage of it. /rant off

He was complaining at the time that many of his friends had failed out and that he didn't have enough of a social life. I said that since he's worried about Biology he doesn't need a social life. He asked why I keep saying that all the time, it doesn't help. I said that I keep hoping he'll become mature enough to hear it. The fact that while he has a class that he might have to drop he shouldn't be worried about his fucking social life, that's immature. That's when he responded the above.

71 Well, I've been telling my husband for years that she's too trailer park for me to deal with. He likes the husband, a smart guy, old guard, retired army. I've never had to deal with anything like that. She didn't drive the kid and there were much older kids at home but she did drive home. I do not like being lied to and I don't want dog's ass on my carpets.
I may have to ask the husband if he knows about it--he apparently flew in late that night. I also don't want to put the kid in a position where she drives her instead of sending her to me.

I didn't give it a click either. Some moderates are liberal or conservative but don't have the guts to say what they really think as they can't stand confrontation. Others are apolitical but don't want to admit that they really don't follow or think critically about politics, geopolitics, and events that shape relationships from personal to international.
This is an offshoot of my theory of how people acquire and nurture their views as a result of their personality. Give me a little credit for not boring you with all of that.

Whatever you hear on Fox, go see if there is verification in a British paper. Quite often there is, even in The Guardian.
Then I saw, "I was reading this British paper, The Guardian, and did you know that....?"
Works like a charm. It keeps me from immediately going off the deep end and also makes me sound smart, because those are British papers, you know.
And the bonus is that the British papers are often snarkier about Obama than Fox!

AFL-CIO prez and Honey Badger BFF Ron Trumka wants gas to cost even more with extra taxes on gas
Trumka: All we need is to raise taxes to create jobs
WhatÂ’s the best way to get Americans back to work?
Raise taxes, according to AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. Specifically, he wants to raise the federal gas tax as a means to fund infrastructure spending. “We need a dedicated source of revenue to create infrastructure in this country,” he tells Aaron Task in the accompanying clip.
“We need to create jobs. The best way to do that is through infrastructure development.” Simply maintaining the existing infrastructure in this country will cost $2.2 trillion over five years, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers. That doesn’t include Obama’s objective of high-speed rails and green energy projects.

Sounds like the kid could use a friendly neighbor's kindness. If you have it in you, befriend the child and do what you can to make the kid's life a little brighter, and maybe enlist other neighbors and church people to do the same. If this is a pattern for the mother, it means a rather lonely life for the kid. As an adult, the mother needs to get help on her own if she wants it. That's my 2 cents at least.

Alex, hands down it's finance. That's where the money lives.
Heh.
Seriously, Alex, unless you have a specific goal in mind for a BS in Chemistry, I'd stick with getting the Masters in Statistics or Finance. Getting those Masters will take less time and you can do more with it in the short term (2 years? vs 3-4 years). Besides, you'll need at least a Masters in Chemistry if you want to do anything career-wise with it anyway. And trust me, Chemistry-Chemistry work isn't as well funded by the feds or private industry as Biochem and Immuno projects dealing with human health (my chem-friends going to grad school right now bitch at me a lot about this funding disparity).
The problem nowadays with a lot of undergrad science education is that (at least from what I've seen and other profs at my institution have echoed this criticism) classes are becoming more and more specialized instead of teaching the basics well. I think its great that you want to learn more about science and you've definately got the gray matter to excel in this field, but I'd recommend self-teaching yourself what you want to learn about chemistry and focus on getting your advanced degrees for now.
Just my .02cents (.00000000 cents when inflation is taken into account).

Book of Daniel contradicts that account of Persians.
Zoroaster wasn't hell bent on blood sacrifice at all. Subsequent star gazers from Persia may have provided Jesus with the worshiping Three Kings from the East who came to pay homage to the new King of Kings.
The various Persian religions are of great interest, and it's a shame that the Muslim faith took hold of such a rich heritage of philosophy, poetry and intellect.

From this point on, I'm going to expect the worse, because I know that the minute some acusation is levelled against an officer or NCO, the senior leadership of the Army will turn on them. Not one of those old men and women at the top will ever be willing to put their rank on the line to defend us when the left starts it's witch hunts.

My contention is that ever since the Gulf War/Operation Desert Storm, the left was alarmed at just how GOOD the Army was, and has been doing everthying possible in the last 20 years to undermine morale and reduce effectiveness without just coming out and saying so.
This latest idiocy with DADT may just be the straw that breaks the camels back and really ruins the Army and the other branches for good.

Well look at the bright side Alex, we now have a valid excuse to opt out of "mandatory fun" activities like Christmas Parties and the like if the gay lifestyle is gonna be on display. I'll pass on that thank you very much.
Oh, I fully expect that anyone who tries to duck out on the excuse that they don't want to see open homosexuality celebrated will be hammered. After all, by refusing to attend, you're creating a "hostile environment" and harming morale. And if you are an officer or Senior NCO, you'll be expected to suck it up and attend, whether you like it or not.

Nah, I dont' think it is permenent. However, we're giong to be looking at probably 20 years of misery and likely another Kasserine Pass before there are any reforms. Shit, when the SecDef starts spouting the idiodic idea that we won't be fighting ground wars in the future you know that people at the top have their heads shoved up their ass.

We had anarchists rioting in Seattle last night to protest police brutality. With the accompanying property damage etc. I hate anarchists. Their end goal is stupid. And don't tell me they wouldn't be weeping bitterly if they couldn't drink their expensive coffee and listen to Green Day on the their iPods. Their railing against "the man" is just idiotic because they would be curled up in the fetal position sucking their thumbs and whimpering if they couldn't buy their black hoodies, skinny jeans, and black scarves from Urban Outfitters.
I hate to say this, but the citizens who own those businesses or live in the area need to band together, and tell the police that at the first sign of violence by the black hooded thugs, they're going to defend their property with leathal force if necessary

"Combat" the series from the 60's. Some episodes directed by Robert Altman.
Each episode was a morality play and it's amazing who pops up as guest stars.
Robert Duvall, Lee Marvin, Telly Savalas, Charles Bronson, Ted Knight, Jeffrey Hunter, James Caan, John Cassavetes, Leanord Nimoy, FrankGorshin, etc.

I sometimes mull how radically different the world would be if Zoroastrianism and its satellites had not been crushed by the ferocious expansion of Islam.
It's sad, really, and it kind of underlines the conflict we just can't seem to commit to.
I feel quite sorry for "Muslims" who live their lives peacefully and try to mind their own business, surrounded by angry authorities, religious police, and so on. I put the quotes in because I had a Muslim friend in school who said he was "about as Muslim as a ham sandwich." Nice guy.

We got a call at 6:30 a.m. (he was borrowing a friend's cellphone since he lost his. Sigh.) He'll arrive in mid-March, the day before our 25th wedding anniversary.
I have a serious question for you military morons:
I asked him when he's being deployed to the Sand Pit, and he said he couldn't talk to us about it (said he'd talk to us when he got home).
Please tell me if he gets a pre-deployment leave on top of this leave (after nearly a year). I really want this info, so my husband and I can prepare ourselves in case we don't see him again before deployment.

I actually didn't have any real image except that it was somethign that looked interesting, would provide work and would seem to be relatively job secure. Politics and backstabbing SOBs exist everywhere. My problem is that my undergrad is in Econ, and if I go the financial route I'm likely to end up on one of the coasts, while if I go with my military training, I'll end up in NOVA / DC, and I absolutely do not want to do that if I can avoid it.
I actually considered the electrician option.

I'm probably going to end up in El Paso for a year at least, but I have no desire to stay there. I'm from Colorado originally, and still have some good friends in Denver. The city is a liberal paradise, but most of my friends are left wing, so I'm used to it, and a lot of the stuff I like to do, Denver has.

Oh I imagine there will be trouble if the government closes down this week.
And to that I say, "Good."
If people haven't woken up to what the left, the dems, the unions, and the media (BIRM) are up to yet, maybe that'll be the shock they need. 10% or higher unemployment. Gas at $3.20 a gallon. A perception throughout the world of being weak. And $14 trillion in debt while the dems carp about tiny cuts to Planned Parenthood and PBS. We are not too big to fail. It's time for the American people to see the outcome of these past 2 years of leftist rule.
I'm a federal employee. I may be furloughed at the end of the week, but since I'm considered an essential worker, I would have to show up for work, with the possibility of not being paid. That's fine. I've saved up my money. And if it finally brings to a head the fact that the left wants to bring this country down, it'll be worth it. I took an oath to protect and defend the United States. I'll do my job sans pay for a while if it comes to that.

It was so weird. I haven't spoken to our boy over a phone in nearly a year. When he called at 6:30 this morning, I was sound asleep, having a bad dream about my late mom. It was so great to hear his voice. Skype works about half the time, and you have trouble hearing what they're saying.
Sigh. He wants his dad to send enough money to "loan" his best friend to fly home to his folks. He thinks he's a millionaire from the little bit my mom left him.
Still, I want to know from military morons here, he's hinted he'll be going to Afghanistan this summer. Will he be given a pre-deloyment leave then? He's paying for his trip home on leave.

No matter how dumb-assed our son may be with his finances, etc., he'll never be a hippie.
Ooh-rah, and Semper Fi, my sweet boy.

My sister says that's why she can't talk on Sundays.
But I suspect it's for the same reason that she can't Mon thru Sat.

Jane! Do not let anyone take the joy of D'oh boy coming home away from you....
Ignore them, they don't matter in the scheme of things anyway, the only thing that matter is you and mr. d'oh and d'oh boy.....end of sentence. But if you want to complain about it, we'll listen so you can get it all out and move along.

I'll e-mail you privately tomorrow. I've pissed the entire family off, by taking care of my own feelings.
Our kid flies into ATL the night before our 25th anniversary. We have to spend the night with my in-laws in their retirement home.
I can't get our kid back home to Savannah fast enough.

Jane just spring for a hotel room. Why do you put yourself through this?

I still say screw 'em. Do they EVER care if they piss you off? Do they EVER take D'oh boys feelings into account? No.
Your one and only priority is your son. They can shove it.

It's ironic that in this Black History Month we have a historic first black precedent who has no history.
At least not that he wants us to know about.

My husband came home yesterday and asked me, "How long do you plan to grieve over you mother? You need to get over it."
I'm trying hard not to hate a good husband and father, but he's making it tough.

Jane, I suspect your mother's death wouldn't be hitting you so hard if your son wasn't gone. That intensifies everything.
It also doesn't help that your in-laws say and do things that upset you constantly. They don't make anything easier for you.
I imagine Mr. D'oh is missing his son too. Dad's just keep it in better than mom's do. ;o)
What's done is done. Focus on your son coming home.

Will you e-mail me whatever you know about pre-deployment leave? I'm sure it can't be different between the various branches of the military.
D'oh and I said to each other tonight, if our kid knew he might be deployed this summer, why spend a small fortune flying home?
Yeah, our baby's homesick. He sounded like a little boy this morning, "I love you so much, Momma."
Posted by: Jane D'oh at February 27, 2011 04:48 PM (UOM48)
If I were you I would do the unexpected and just call your mother in law and tell her you are so sorry you couldn't go to the party but you are still really grieving your own mom. then, make sure the entire family somehow finds out about the call. Now, you have put your mil in a nice little box, if she continues it, she's the total biotch and you are the poor victim. Then tell hubby you want to stay in a luxury hotel and go all over the internet and find a luxury room for a great price and book it. this way, on your way home when you stop in to see the family it will be the first time you are all seeing them since the problems. Stay for a couple of hours and say that d'oh boy wants to get back home. Done, leave and go home and don't talk about it in front of d'oh boy, don't burden him with other people problems.
Families can some times create so many problems.

My condolences on the loss of your mother. It has been nearly 5 months since my wife passed. All I can tell you is that grief moves at its own pace. I also don't think you ever "get over it." Over time you learn to live with it and everyone gets to that point on their own schedule.

I did mention there were sammiches involved, didn't I?

Thanks. My dad died on Mother's Day 15 years ago, he was only 76. My mom was sick most of her life with her heart, but so full of joy and love it was amazing. She inhaled something into her lungs after breakfast, three days after our only child arrived at Marine boot camp. She died a week later on her's and my dad's wedding anniversary. She was buried on her own mother's birthday.
I'm a tough cookie, but I've had a delayed reaction to my mom's death. I was her caregiver for over 25 years.

You might think I'm crazy to say this but when I read those two lines I thought "wow, there's Jane's clue". I think sometimes God gives you clues as to why he does what he does, but you have to find them.

Your story breaks my heart.
My husband's cousin just lost his 52 year old wife to a 7 year battle with melanoma. They have twin 12 year old boys. She fought such a brave battle. We corresponded. When the end was imminent, she wrote me how she just wanted to be sure her boys didn't grieve too much and thrived as young men.

419 That's good advice.
Maybe just tell them that since there seems to be so much tension caused by family get togethers that perhaps it's time to just agree to disagree and not have much to do with each other from now on? Have a couple of relatives like that and that's how it's been handled -- we don't seek each other out or speak, and everyone seems to be in a better frame of mind for it.
Sorry about your wife Duke -- that straight up sucks.

My condolences for your shocking loss, and admiration for your resiliency.
After such an experience from which an uncommon wisdom is distilled, it's doubtful that the tough days ahead will seem much more than a speed bump.
Good luck and God Bless.

360,000 mostly white Union soldiers died in the Civil War to free the slaves.
That is an injustice to real history. Good propaganda for a President who trashed the U.S. Constitution, started a war that resulted in over 620,000 fatalities and didn't bother freeing slaves under his control until after the war.
