— Ace Seems, as expected, deranged, speaking of mind control and such.
Speaks pretty incoherently about large numbers of years BCE and ADE (which oldsters know as BC and AD I guess), 5% of the nation being "dreamers" like him, teaching children to replace a letter of the alphabet with another and so by creating some new language. Schizophrenic stuff, basically.
Also seems obsessive about backing the currency with gold and silver. Speaks about a third currency, also seems obsessed with the position of Treasurer.
Also writes that if you call him a terrorist, that's an ad hominem, so calling him a terrorist would be an ad hominem attack.
Here's some of his psychotic writing:
In conclusion, reading the second United States Constitution, I can't trust the current government because of the ratifications [sic; he seems to mean amendments]; The government is implying mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling grammar. No! I won't pay debt with a currency that's not backed by gold and silver!
No! Iwon't trust in God!
He also mentions he didn't "write a belief" on his Army applicaiton, and the recruiter wrote: None. So, atheist.
The goldbug stuff is the only thing here I can see that associates him with the right (and then, only to the Ron Paul sort of Austrian economics wing). I should just note that money is an obsession of psychotic conspiracy theories -- there are endless speculations about the Masonic imagery on the dollar bills. Recently I was talking to a black guy, who was a strangely conspiracy-obsessed sort of guy, and he had this whole theory that all rappers were part of a Satanic conspriracy because they all show the "Eye of Ra" symbol (basically making a triangle with your fingers and looking through it), which looks like the eye on the dollar bill, and the government is a Satanic conspiracy too. This link is sort of on the same page as what this black guy was talking about.
One psychotic I personally became aware of was fond of writing, over and over, "THE FED IS IN THE FOOD." What that means, I don't know.
So, I'm not sure this is going to turn out to be a "deranged guy more associated with the right than the left," as that sort of currency-based conspiracy theory isn't really political at all, it's just a common trope of the psychotic. There may be so little actual political content to his thought it will be hard(er) for the media to say this guy was on the "right." It could just be that he already had the common psychotic obsession with mind-control-through-currency (or whatnot) and just glommed on to the goldbugs' complaints about fiat currency because it sounded good.

I remember these people in college. They were usually men who had taken a couple of philosophy courses and barely understood any of it. They latched on to a few basic concepts that had been butchered by their unique mix of emotional/mental problems and middling intellect.
I can only assume that if their emotional/mental problems continue to worsen, they act on completely their bat-shit insane ideals. They are usually very conspiratorial, so they would probably be opposed to any potential remedy or treatment for schizophrenia or whatever condition they might have.

I agree Amish. I spoke a bit too quickly about a possible Ron Paul connection. As I said, I would now be inclined to say that he probably would listen to Alex Jones before Ron Paul.
There was a time when you would see Larouchies on campus talking about monetary policy, but if you were to talk to 22 year old college students today, the ones talking about monetary policy, gold and silver money, etc. are much more likely have been introduced to these ideas policy through Paul.

"Far right" meaning Fascism tagged by Communists as both were fighting for converts between WWI & WWII? Except that authoritarianism is leftist, regardless of branding.
If a lone culprit, then a deranged person. But even there, as likely as not, someone's patsy.
Assassinations traditionally are performed by leftists, the usual terrorists, not conservatives holding to rule of law.
Who is in need of a crisis to mount public opinion on behalf of authoritarianism to counter the momentum of the Tea Party movement? Especially to "prove" that political opponents of Obama are indeed "enemies"?
And who could be sacrificed by authoritarians in order to provide an excuse for Obama/Holder feds to swoop in not to protect Arizona but to complete the subjugation of that State, held as example for demanding the US Constitution be upheld, even as Giffords suffers violence after voting against Pelosi.

Well I don't have any evidence that leftist beliefs predispose you towards mental illness - it could be true but I just don't have data to say either way.
But I do think that people who are mentally ill are more likely to be attracted to a leftist ideology. It's a common affectation among the Left that they are persecuted dissidents who are opposed by the Authorities. And this is a very easy fit for many of the delusional mental illnesses.

Ace, watch how this is going to be spun. Here in Los Angeles Congressman Brad Sherman was interviewed within the last hour on radio and the interview centered around healthcare and those opposed to it. The meme is being cast right now in real time. The producers at the big lib outlets are fast preparing story themes to go along with the Arizona tragedy.
The fact of the matter and no one should ever feel sheepish about saying it. And that is, the progressives have been pushing class division and race division and hatred. And they need to be called out on it.
The responsible thing here is to continue to respond with the truth:
1. This was a horrific tragedy. And our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.
2. Progressives push division by race and class and embrace such notables as Reverend Wright, Cloward , Piven and Bill Ayers to name a few. None of whom promote temperance and rational discourse.

My old office was between two hospitals on a busy street, and occasionally an off-balance person would wonder in. One day a guy came in, clean, casually dressed, and for about 20 seconds I thought he was going to hire me. Until he pointed across the street (to the cancer clinic) and told me there were people over there who were following him. He said that he had been under surveillance since his divorce. Fascinated, I indulged him. He had been under constant surveillance for a few years and that his ex was behind it.
I said, "There is no one following you, and I'll tell you why. Do you know how much it would cost to keep someone under surviellance? For even a short time? It would cost thousands of dollars a day." That fact seemed to be instantly filtered out. "Well, I've seen them" yada yada yada.
Another time, a woman came in frantic, obviously fearful. I felt sorry for her. I got her calmed down a bit and asked her what was wrong. She was being followed too. As she said that, she shot a look over at my bookcase, stepped over, and started looking behind the books. "What are you doing?" "They've been watching me," to paraphrase; "I'm looking for cameras."
There were a few other instances just like those.
Those were my first experiences with that kind of thing. It's fascinating stuff. But stressful. When someone is in real fear, it's hard if you care and want to help.

He tried to use a logical construct over and over to, I think, teach viewers of how someone - i.e. "the government" - controls the mind via language and appropriating terminology. In a redundant theme of "If A causes B, and B causes C, then A causes C," he's trying to get viewers to accept this logical fallacy... only he doesn't realize it's a fallacy.
He's wanting people to be more "literate" - and "listening" - so that they'll appreciate what he views as the government taking over language to control the "sleepers."
While he may have particular aggravations on policy issues, I think most of what he has written has to do with creating an example set of his logic with the examples as metaphors. "Currency" isn't actually a beef with monetary policy from the Fed. It's an example of how you use language to create a new currency from old. If you set the definitions and words, you can change them into something else and exchange them with others who aren't aware of the change you made. You then trade in this new, publicly accepted currency of language while sleepers carry on none the wiser. You're creating new language. You're creating new currency. Language == Currency.
This is convoluted stuff from a confused man, but let's not go nuts with the Ron Paul/Fed associations. This is a guy who is ticked off at the Constitution... or at least what has been done to it in his mind via government that doesn't treat the original words in an absolutist manner and who believes the government is manipulating the voters. Now, exactly how "asleep" he is or wants to be remains unknown since he could be defining what he is or is asking to really be put to sleep to awaken others of his realizations.

307 I'm guessing it wasn't a .22 either due to the type of .22 you'd need was not a run of the mill type, but I'm talking splitting hairs about the capabilities of .22s rather than conjecturing as to what the actual weapon in this attack was.
It is, however, imho, very foolish to be too nonchalant as to the capabilities of .22s...I've seen a lot of people think they are little pea shooters -- but that's not a good way to think of any firearm -- they can kill people, and at a further range than many think. Again, jmo.

I would be curious as to where he got these ideas from. I'm thinking one of the classes at the community college he attended. It's the kind of pseudointellectual crap that passes for intellect in academia these days. Sounds like a lot of avant garde non-thinking thinking. I'm guessing there's a whole course of this kind of thing ("Mind and society" perhaps?) and a professor really inspired him.
Let me say, I don't think he got his wacko nutcase ideas from the prof, but my interest in academia leads me to be curious.

Who knows. I think "pseudointellectual" nails it though. It could well be that he has read valid, legitimate texts in logic and either misinterpreted them or has actually manufactured his own thought train by blending those texts with political activism, dogma, poetry (suitable for the age of YouTube), and a bit of crazy.
I mean I think I understand some of what I'm reading, but some of it could be a) crazy nuts, b) artistry with poetic license, c) mixing and morphing as a tease for his coming crime, d) variably interpretable, defensive material for evidence post-crime for an insanity plea, or e) innumerable things we cannot think of.
Now I don't really think he was crazy nuts, but he did have irrational thoughts rationally applied. I don't have any reservations that he could have picked it up from academia though. Sometimes subtle doesn't translate well and leads to tragic paths just as equally as outright radicalism.

320 Depends upon who was teaching the class -- some of this stuff (that he wrote) can be tied back to the idea of grammar/writing being an imperfect method of communication. I've used that concept myself in 101 Comp. -- that the writer needs to be very aware of clearly communicating to the audience and aware of the inherent bias that any writing will contain; that the reader needs to be aware of this as well. In short, words don't mean anything...they're only symbols. The ethical instructor uses this to exhort students to be as clear and unbiased as possible and to look out for it when doing research...an unethical one could really mess with someone who was susceptible to that sort of thing (and believe me, there are some very susceptible students: way too many believe or want to believe in far out conspiracy stuff. I blame Oliver Stone and Mikey Moore).
A lot of the ramblings in one of the youtube's reminds me of some pretty standard post-colonialist and deconstructionist stuff, and it isn't just used in the humanities only I might add.
