Lazy Sunday Political Nonsense. - UPDATE [ArthurK]
— Open Blogger

Ed Morrisey over at HotAir has an amusing speculation - what if Obama doesn't run again?

Lets pretend Ed's right and Obama decides he's not into this anymore and announces in a few months that he's not running for reelection. Hillary and how many dozen other Dems are going to jump into a suddenly wide-open race? Gotta assume Hillary's the front runner. She'll suck up lots of "I'm so sorry I supported Obama and betrayed you Hill." Would Biden run? I can't imagine who else would jump in - rather, who wouldn't jump in?

And it would have an large impact on the Republican race - the guys more towards the center become stronger as the fight for the middle picks up steam.

Best Election Cycle Ever!

(as a spectator sport)

Ok, this post sucked. I've got a better one!

Latest Obama Brain Storm - Free Lunches for Affluent students!

... the recent $4.5 billion expansion of the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act, which will now provide free lunches to ALL - rich and poor, needy and non-needy - of Detroit’s 65,800 public school-students.

But the program’s logic is even more insane than the price tag: The administration says it is giving rich kids free food to eliminate the shame that less-fortunate students may feel in receiving free food. We’re not making this up.

"We’ve worked very hard to reduce the stigma," Aaron Lavallee, a U.S. Department of Agriculture spokesman,..."

"Now all students will walk through a lunch line and not have to pay," says Mark Schrupp, Detroit Public Schools COO. "Low-income students will not be easily identifiable and will be less likely to skip meals."

Again, we aren’t making this up.

... government has become a piggy bank for the Left to hand out favors to friends, subsidize third-car hybrid purchases for the rich, and test goofy theories about class stigma

Again, this is in Detroit! A city that doesn't need more bold social experiments.

"Lets pretend Ed's right and Obama decides he's not into this anymore and announces in a few months that he's not running for reelection."

Tough call.

On one hand, JEF is a narcissist's narcissist. He claims victories that just abut everyone sees as draws at best, disasterous failures at worst (and in fact unnecessary failures, easily avoidable even by student government candidates). Rumors indicate that just about every insider in D.C., of any political affiliation, sees JEF as incompetent, completely out of his league, --> unprepar ed able ... probably the subject of much humor, even among his people inside the White House ...

Yet, can JEF even consider not running? I have yet to see his visage on any US stamps or coins, but ... perhaps something in 2012

On the other hand, has he EVER finished a job; one of any importance? The ones he has finished, his degrees, his community organizer activities, his time in elected state positions ("Present!!"), indicate someone simply telling him "it's over, here's your __(insert reward Rezko-esque payoff here)____".  Other things, like Ill. US Senator, were never finished, and the results ... where is his legislation? What about his positions ... on the economy, Iraq, Afghanistan ... oh, right, he changed ... or did he change back ... or something?

Will the D-powers-that-be risk ending the Democrat Party by running JEF again? Can they force him out, into a very private and quite retirement? This looks to be the bottom line.

I'm stocking up on popcorn, beer and cash money.

Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain acknowledged the end is near for Gadhafi and it will be up to the United States and the Europeans to help rebuild Libya.

Narcissistic sociopaths like Obama never give up the opportunity to prove how wrong America has been, and why he should be reelected to complete his good work.
Yeah, that about sums it up. They talk about LBJ's "ego", but somebody can have a big ego without the over-the-top narcissism Obama has displayed. This guy has done nothing but campaign since before he was elected a senator. It's like a way of life - it's "what he does". All this golfing and vacationing is his way of saying, "the whole goddamn country can just f-ing wait until I'm good any ready to do whatever I'm gonna do. I'm important, and they're not. I'm putting it on their tab, too - because I can." Yeah, he'll go down saying, "they just don't get it."   This article is good news, however. Clearly, the Left recognizes Obama as "Carter, on steroids." They're thinking out loud about what to do about it, but they won't really actually do anything. ("Doing" was never a strong point for them.) They're just venting their own useless frustrations. When it comes down to it, Obama is everything they stand for and believe in, but they choose to identify him as the failure, rather than their socialism, which he has advanced more than anyone since LBJ.

145 Well, first, Obama will not get out unless he's convinced he has no chance.  That means we have to have an actual Republican nominee who's consistently polling above Obama.  It'll be May before he could even begin to be convinced that it's over.

He could certainly make the announcement before the Republican convention.  This would put the news media in a tizzy, ignoring the GOP coronation in favor of the back-room deals the Democrats would be doing.

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised at anything.  He will run one of the weirdest campaigns in modern history. You will see stunts you didn't believe were possible.

Consider this: What if, after raising a lot of dough, he announces in June that he is considering not running?  Then they gin up all sorts of events that amount to Democrats begging him to run.

147 Why is this nonsense? Obama has lost the support of the people who got him to the White House in the first place! He has alienated women, people of color, the working man of America, and anyone who cares about progressive and redistributionist policies. He has caved into the pressure from the Bankers on Wall street and the big corporations who will do anything for a handout. GE paid no taxes last year. That is disgusting. They made billions on the backs of their workers, probably fired a bunch of them, and Imelt laughed all the way to the bank. Hillary is stronger than Obama, and will be able to fight the entrenched interests while staying true to the cause. I hope she runs...and wins! See JFK - a mediocre President whose ineptitude bungled the Bay of Pigs, then almost got us all vaporized with the Cuban missle crisis (by so underwhelming Khruschev that the latter decided to try it on with this callow youth we'd elected). JFK was a failure across the board ... until he got smoked in Dallas (where he visited in an effort to cheer up his shaky re-election chances), then he became a martyr, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln to the nth power. If you have an unruly classroom, nothing will get taught because you will spend the entire time trying to reprimand. But they don't mention that in the School of Education. They are more interested in showing you how to be friends with the students and how to best adapt to the current environment. In other words, they teach you how to best play the game and do what you're told.* The good thing about Texas, though, is that (outside of TAKS) you have more freedom in the classroom than some other states. It really depends on the individual school district.

*Which is a one reason why I left.

269 I simply can't imagine the SCFOAMF giving a concession speech on election night.  They will have to pry him loose from the Oval Office.

272 Now August 21st will be forever known as Victory in Labia Day!  Also, on this day in 1983, Benino Aquino was shot dead trying to exit a jet in Manilla, The Philippenes.

273 For what it's worth, I am very familiar with Detroit and it's schools.  Both public and private.  It has helped to form me into the totally awesome asshole that I am.  That being said, I would not put too much stock into this latest venture.  It is sort of re-arranging the chairs/tables on the Titanic.  Most of the families who have any sort of intelligence and financial ablility to leave Detroit proper have left.  There are, and I pray, will continue to be pockets of prosperity in The "D"  such as Rosedale Park,  Sherwood Forest, etc.  In my opinion Detroit Edison historical district is hanging in there.  How a city can expect to attract "families" which are so very essential to a growing and vibrant base without addressing the hopeless poverty is beyond me.  I wish to close by stating that many of my friends still live there.  Most are "single".  I tip my hat to them and they know I do not mean them any disrespect.  If I did not have a family I would very likely still live there.  It is nice when you are 25 years old and your house is paid off in full.  But for a family man there are many other things to consider.  Number one is security.  As a single man I can live the Mad Max lifestyle.  I will NOT subject my son or daughter to it.

274 I can't wait until they make it against the rules to eat anything at school other than what the school gives you. That way nobody feels bad when the kid next to you has a better lunch, and everybody will be forced to eat the same lousy institutional food, rich or poor.

I'd never seen it abbreviated as AJA...usually AJ.  And why would they, as Drew tweets, need to verify what was on their TV?

His speaking would give you some confidence?

I'd ask if him doing something would give you confidence but all he ever does is speak, so that's all that needs to be said.

follow this school lunch thing to its inevitable big government conclusion, based on the principle of not wanting to stigmatize poor kids:

first, school lunches are now free to anyone who wants one whether rich or poor.

Now kids can still bring sack lunches from home. But the quality of food coming in lunchbags of the rich subrurban kids is very often far superior to the cafeteria food, thereby stigmatizing the inner city kids who cant afford a decent sack lunch.

So instead of ensuring some quality control to make school lunches tasty, how soon before theres a ban on bringing any food on campus? And then the only food available on campus will be district/government approved food products from sketchy sources because all the district spending is tied up in unionized school employee salaries and benefits.

And that sandwich and granola bar in your backpack? Racist. Forget it. Under the next line of Rules Against Stigmatizing Poor Kids, you will be suspended if you bring food onto campus grounds.

306 The most pathetic statistic in that story is that Detroit has only 65,800 students left in their public schools.  It is hard to believe that a major American city has declined so far that it is becoming depopulated, with grass growing in the streets.
