Let's Play "Guess the Country"
— andy

Continuing with the no-Weiner-but-all-boned diktat from the Head Moron, here's a pretty good summary of what ails some random country:

_____________ has become the poster child of an Entitlement Society – the public sector has extended everywhere and private capital has been crowded out by the need to keep the public sector employment in place

Take a guess. Answer below the fold. Anyone who said "Portugal" move to the head of the line. Anyone who thought this referred to the U.S. or another E.U. country go and stand right beside them, because it may as well have.

As a matter of fact, that article reads pretty well if you substitute "the United States" for "Portugal" all the way through.

I believe we may have found a rare accomplishment to credit President Obama with. He campaigned on making us less cowboyish and more like Europe. In that regard he has succeeded beyond all expectations. Succeeded in making us equally bankrupt, that is.

I mean, he must have chalked it up as a success. Otherwise, why would he stop taking daily economic briefings?

At some point during the first two years of his administration, President Obama stopped receiving the daily economic briefing that he requested when he took office.

...

“The president asked that this be added every day to his schedule,” Gibbs said at the time. Gibbs added that Obama believed it is “important that each day he receive the most up to date information as it relates to the economy.”

Hey, the man gave umpteen speeches on the economy and levered us up a few trillion dollars. So problem solved, right? Why it would be downright unreasonable for us to expect him to work his handicap down with a standing meeting on his calendar every. damned. day.

(Thanks to Slu for that last part. Like Austan Goolsbee, I was looking for an exit)

1 Who wants to hear how utterly craptastic of a job they're doing everyday?  No surprise he stopped getting those briefings.  It's like starting each morning with Michelle telling him she really didn't enjoy last night and that he shouldn't bother trying again tonight.

If your trying to dig out the foundation of a Capitalist System and redistribute it's wealth......why would you want to pay attention to the numbers? It makes no sense, becaue you wouldn't care what the numbers are, all you would care about was how fast you could spend.

Have no fear peasants, Barry says everything is cool

WASHINGTON – After a spate of discouraging economic reports, President Barack Obama insisted Tuesday he's not afraid of the country slipping into a double-dip recession. But at the same time he displayed some impatience that the pace of the recovery has "got to accelerate."

"Obviously, we're experiencing some headwinds," Obama said at a joint news conference with visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Headwinds? What happened to the bumps in the road?

But Obama said his administration was taking a range of steps to boost the economy, and that the nation is bound for long-term economic growth.

"We are on the path of a recovery but it's got to accelerate," he said.

Yes, making vague statements and bullshitting are a range of steps

Here's what I've been wondering for a long while.

What really has to happen for a country to completely eliminate entitlements, like welfare, for example? In a country like Portugal, where the lube is already applied, the fluffer has completed her job and the boning is about to begin, how long is it until they as a society demand an end to welfare? Or will welfare be the last thing to go as the entire economy collapses?

Bonus question. How bad do things have to get before the government workers get gutted? News graphics yesterday showed 100,000 in the US were going to be eliminated but that's still the tip of an iceberg.

"Recovering from that kind of body-blow takes time," Obama said, admitting that in recent weeks the economy had faced strong "headwinds."

"Recovery is going to be uneven. There are going to be times where we are making progress, but people are still skittish and nervous, and the markets get skittish and nervous."

"Our task is not to panic, not overreact, to make sure that we've got a plan, a path forward," he said, noting the need to tend to structural issues and fundamentals that would promote growth and a sound business environment.

In other words, STFU and reelect me. Structural issues and fundamentals like wind farms and high speed rail?

The dismaying evidence that the recovery may be stalling has offered a sudden opening to Republicans, especially those running nascent presidential campaigns, who know many Americans are yet to feel evidence of a recovery.

Mitt Romney, the putative Republican frontrunner for the 2012 election slammed Obama for saying the jobs data was a "bump in the road" and issued an indictment of administration policies he said had "failed America."

Barry: Note to self: drop "bump in road" change to "headwinds".

I truely belive that Obama and the Demcorats had no idea that they could do so much damage so quickly.

I think they thought they were only doing prep work for his second term, where the screws would then be put to the economy and the system as a whole, and they would then envelope their Collectivist Agenda into place then.

It seems to have backfired a little, and now he may not get his seond term. This is a lesson for all you childern and Commies joining us today. Never count your Chiken before they are Hatched.

3.  Zero estate tax for five years;

4.  Across the board 10% federal income tax for every man, woman, and child who earn more than $100.

Fixed it for you.  Oh, and throw in for the hell of it:

5.  Rescind the right to vote for anyone who hasn't paid federal income tax in the prior year or who is currently receiving welfare.
