When you get down to it, is that any more weird than a virgin giving birth, an old dude parting the Red Sea, or all animal life on the planet being direct relatives of two of every species that somehow coexisted and fasted for 40 days and nights?

It's funny, if you love Mittens, Huntsman is really the safer choice. Less baggage, better, bolder economic plan etc.
And..
If you like Newtie, Santorum is the safer, establishment, yet pretty conservative alternative.
Again, less baggage, just as, or more conservative, etc.
However, both alternatives are beta male douches, who make ginas close up shop and are objects of derision from men.

In all seriousness, why in the hell would any conservative support Romney over Huntsman?
Huntsman's economic plan is much, much bolder and more conservative.
Huntsman has been consistently pro-life.
Huntsman is strongly pro-2nd amendment.
Huntsman was governor of Utah, not Massachusetts.
Huntsman opposed NCLB (I believe Utah considered pulling out, but decided they'd lose too much federal funding).
Am I missing something? I get that people are pissed at Huntsman for being Obama's ambassador, but is he secretly far to the left of Romney and Gingrich on some major issue. I'm speaking from ignorance here...

It will take a little work, I am thinking we need a state of the art biology/genetics lab.
We take dna samples from all our nominees and a couple that decided not to run.
We take Sarah's corruption fighting skills, Ron's financial knowledge, Newt's debating skills and foreign policy knowledge, the Ricks's, Michelle and religious standing, Herm's business acumen, Mitt and Jon's hair and then we make a late night grave expedition and get a little Reagan dna.
There we go, the perfect monster.

When Santorum lost the senate race in Pennsylvania, it tainted his chance for rebound. However who ever thought Tricky Dicky could return from the dead?
Nixon had his problems. Wage and price controls. EPA. Er...Watergate.
But, he was tenacious. In 1962 he was left for dead. He came back in 1968 and won the damn thing by a close margin. Then in 1972 he won it again by an epic margin. You know, I dont' give a shit, I like RMN. The press hated him probably more than anyone in human history, and I think that is a feather in the cap of his legacy.

Maybe we are down to two, maybe not, but the fights will go on, and the candidates will keep on attacking their own, weakening the eventual winner, who will go forth sullied from the dirt and wounded from the magnifed percieved flaws.
The the real dirt starts. Whoever the Republican nominate will be branded racist just for runnning. And it will get worse. Much worse.

Another thought.
Here in Michigan there is a lot of concern about crossover voting. Since our Republican Primary is open with no party affiliation requirements, Democrats can vote for a Republican acceptable to them, or even one whom they think easiest to beat. There is historical evidence of this, both ways actually, which likely affected some past primary elections. This also is likely to occur in other states without Democratic Primaries. In a close race between two candidates with perceived flaws, Republicans expect a strong coordinated crossover vote, planned by Democrats to influence the final choice.
This is not tin foil hat stuff, this is being openly discussed and planned. And there is not a thing to be done about it.
Best efforts right now are at the local levels, to out-organize the Michigan Democratic Machine, and turn out the Republican vote in record numbers. A daunting task indeed, in this state. And a good reason we need a solid candidate that can achieve an early consensus lead. A close one here and elsewhere could have some serious downside.
It ain't always easy, folks. ABO! Focus on the goal.

Few her remember that epochal time, and how Dick Nixon returned from the political dead. In today's parlance, Nixon would be a pretty leftist Republican on many issues. Remember HE started the EPA, his administration enforced desegregation by bussing in the South, he nominated John Paul Stevens to the USSC. He made Arthur Burns head of the Fed, who was the worst Fed Chairman in the 2nd half of the 20th century. And he took us off the gold standard.
Consider what the alternative was: - Hubert Humphrey.

Sure, but I don't act on there every call like the breeder cons do, then expect everyone to pay for their little ones schooling.

My bad! I switched around the male/female hormones in liberals by accident.
Okay, it wasn't really an accident.

Blacks age better than whites, looks wise, by and large. Darker skin helps to repel the sun's worst side effects.

I don't think that's accurate. Every black guy I've ever known has gotten a sunburn.

So we keep smokin' and we keep drinkin' havin' fun and never thinkin'
Laughin' at the price tags that we pay
And we keep rollin' down the fast lane like two young men feelin' no pain
And the reasons for quittin's gettin' bigger each day

I would still rather have Perry because of his executive experience, but if I have to choose between these two guys, Ill take Newt. Romneycare takes Mitt out completely for me.
And
--global warming fraud
--Fannie and Freddie lobbying
--a personal life that makes Giuliani look like a fundamentalist
don't bother you?
Say what you will about Mitt, he's so straightlaced he ought to be a SocialCon's wet dream, Mormonism notwithstanding.

So, John McCain's still available, right? Technically, couldn't it still be his turn since America kinda deserves a mulligan after Obama? I'm certain the MFM would back him this time. What could happen?
Oh puhleeze. Remember when Mitt was the Conservative Alternative to Juan McClimateFraud?
Please, let the old Manchurian Candidate geezer, his bimbo wife and slut daughter just go away for good.

Romney is running at the center/center-left right now. I fear what he'd do in the general if he got the nomination.

And they will be paying taxes for your AZT cocktails to keep you alive while you try to molest their kids. Sad, isn't it?

Please return your 'SarcMeter 100' to your local GenuSarc Service Center to have its 100,000 Word Warranty Service applied. I think it broke somewhere around Comment #80.

I don't care when the poofs show up but this place needs a makeover. The carpet still smells like cat pee, there's loose tags and double posts everywhere, no color and WTF is that gibbering loon supposed to be?

I am waiting to see what Mrs. Cain has to say to Mr. Cain. If she shows up with Gloria Allred in tow, he is in deep doo doo. I find Newt as arrogant as The One, though a bazillion times smarter. Mitt is a great guy and his job at the Olympics was stellar, but his interview on Fox the other night took all the air out of the room.
Help me foks, Huntsman is starting to look, well, not so bad. He has a great record as Utah's governor. The fact that he was willing to work in the cabinet of The One is scary. He smacks of Repulican elitism - but jeesh - Republicans are looking like a bunch of dopes these days.

Really? that's all I'm saying. I'm not a Romeny bot. I just want the person who can beat Obama.
Yes, really.

JudyM,
This is what I learned from Utahns (I moved here about 16 months ago) about Huntsman. They are very disenchanted with him. IIRC the last poll had Mitt pulling 70% to Jon's <20% (that was quite a while ago).
When I've spoken with people about him, and this includes folks who worked on his campaigns, I found that it wasn't so much that they think he's too liberal (I have heard that about Mitt from quite a few Utahns, incidentally), but that they don't trust him. Apparently, he was pretty cavalier about reneging on some campaign promises. The one that seems to have produced the most bitterness is a school vouchers program that came up for a referendum. Huntsman promised to support it, but when push came to shove he refused to do so.
I agree with Vic that Huntsman is further to the right than Mitt -- he has been really consistently pro-life and is very pro-gun. Sometimes Huntsman is called a liberal on gay rights, but really I think he's pretty mainstream -- he supports civil unions but opposes gay marriage. And unlike Romney he doesn't appear to have tried to really play to gay rights activists -- I don't see a letter from him to the Log Cabin folks pledging to work for gays to serve openly in the military, for example.
Huntsman did sign us up for some sort of a carbon trading thing, but in his defense on that we do have a really bad smog problem here due to thermal inversions. And, frankly, many Utahns are pretty centrist on environmental issues.
A couple of months ago I would have said I'd vote for Mitt over Huntsman, but that was when I was (naively) operating under the assumption that Mitt was an honorable person. I no longer feel that way. Huntsman has a bolder economic plan, real foreign policy experience (not just in O's admin but also a few Republican administrations), and has actually governed a bit to the right of Romney. So he is now a slightly better option than Mitt in the primary.
But I'm still for Perry.
