— andy And by "Patriots", I mean the New England Patriots that are playing the Dolphins right now, but I guess we can switch to the debate at 8:00 Eastern. Man, it really takes a special kind of genius to schedule a GOP presidential debate head-to-head with the Monday Night Football season-opener.
Oh, right. The Stupid Party. How could I forget?
Anyhow, this one's being somewhat inaccurately billed as the CNN/Tea Party debate. No problem with the CNN part, but Tea Party Express™®© != "tea party". Hopefully there will be enough real grassroots tea partiers involved to rescue it from the capital "T" capital "P" set.
Tonight's moderator will be Celebrity Jeopardy champion Wolf Blitzer, and participants are Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. I'll take "Potent Potables" for $1,000 please, Alex.
Livestream here - click "CNN Tea Party Debate" to upper right.

But he will not say he wants Social Security to exist. He says he wants people to have a "retirement program that works".

the only one out there that finally hit the right note on S.S. was Bachmann, after Blitzer had rounded the whole herd up, she finally hit on the right arguement, but it was too late because they changed topics right after.
but still the only person who could bring themselves to say the word "cut" out loud was RP.
so i guess only crazy nutjobs can speak truth... because Blitzer may not like it otherwise.

Perry deflects Bachmann, he looks even stronger.
She kinda looks like she know's she's cooked. I still like her, but she can't beat Perry unless Perry beats himself.
You can't really run to the right of Perry, not because your not conservative enough, not because he has or hasn't been, but because rhetorically the guy is pushing the overton window, and he's leading on the issues, creating the controversies they're all discussing. And winning.
And the whole damn field has isolated Romney, on a few issues.

No need to use legends, the gentleman subcontracted on two wives and renounced protestantism to embrace catholicism.
I am not judging any of those choices, but it does speak to a certain flexibility in his moral, and clerical internal monologue.
Further pursuing impeachment against Clinton, whom all here know I despise, whilst happily debauching a staffer his own 23 years his junior is hypocritical in the extreme. It saddens me to write that because as a history buff and a conservative I consider him to be a genius in his scholarship and political theory. The ethics charge they finally got him on is akin to handing out tickets at the Indy 500 especially in light of later violations by members that were hardly rebuked.
I'll back newt if he gets the nod, perhaps I'll even canvas for him if Perry implodes and Romney maintains Barack Romney tactics but I will not canvas for him first because of those personal failings he self-admittedly engaged in.
regards,
sven

A national sales tax would be OK... IF the income tax was eliminated.
Much more likely would be Romeny lowering the income tax, and introducing a sales tax. Within 10 years, the income tax would go back up as high as it ever was, and the NYT would be running editorials calling for the sales tax to be raised.

Bachmann is demeaning herself with this innoculation BS... the mandate HAD an opt-out. Beyond that, nothing can be said about the "danger" of that vaccine that could not be said about polio or smallpox or any other vaccine.

I'll tell you who pays - he does. On a plan, for years, but small payments, whatever he can afford. Or else he declares bankrupcy and the hospital pays, but also pays a cost.
But care is not denied. Care is never denied. Garnish his wage. Put the collection agency on him. Put him on a payment plan. They're usually pretty reasonable. You won't die without insurance.... unless you're probably going to die anyway with it. I'm sure there's a few sob stories, but it isn't the reality.

At least Santorum mentioned all the vaccines kids have to get but mocked this vaccine as though it were unneeded. But considering that the modern definition of virgin is "ugly third grader" (thank you, Joan Rivers) it isn't a crazy idea to get girls vaccinated.
I don't know. I think I am just getting annoyed by the shrill tone and the lack of actual answers coming from these guys half the time. Oh ... and I wish these guys would accept that "yes" or "no" are good answers.

No, I think you are right. I just don't see what the big deal is. Innoculation of school children has gone on in this country for decades. Why is THIS particular vaccine so terribly differrent? Beats me. Surely the GOP is not becoming the anit-vaccine party?
Posted by: CoolCzech at September 12, 2011 09:24 PM (oYb6f)
I think the only real difference is that the majority of the disease you are vaccinated against in schools are ones you could get pretty easily in school just from general contact with an infected individual. HPV is something you get through sexual contact, not a kid behind you sneezing. That's about it.

they are undermining the GOP in the future on the social security issues, and frankly playing Fwance and just trying to knowck down whoever is on top of the power hill is beneath them.
No they aren't.
Rick Perry is not the future on social security issues. Nor the GOP - they all are that. Rick Perry may be the right man to lead it right now, but he isn't it. If he has a stroke we go on without him.
They told Perry the truth, basically, it's wrong for government to claim that power and that is the same fundemental issue as what is wrong with Obamacare.
They both AGREED and helped Perry, and hurt Romney, on the actual social security issues you're worried about.
No one is perfect. This is a good strike, but it's not a killing blow. Perry is fine anyway.

Perry is strong on border enforecement. Those that think he's weak on illegal immigration should listen carefully to the other candidates: none of them will come out and say they favor mass deportation.
I think Perry gave probably as good a n answer regarding the tuition question as good as he could give. He pointed out that the kids had to be working to to get their citizenship.

Honestly, CC, I don't remember. I looked into it several weeks (months?) ago when Perry's name was coming up and satisfied myself that, although he is not great on illegals, he's not an open borders amnesty guy either. What I read painted it as a regional thing. It's also useful to bear in mind that it's currently accounting for (again, based on my faulty memory from some web serarching, so grain of salt) less than 0.5% of the students in Texas universities.
I have a hard time taking Mitt seriously on this issue given how willing he is to pander for votes, ethanol being the most glaring recent example.
Really, if he is going to go full throttle against Perry on SS characterizing his views as extremist, I'm going to have a hard time voting for Romney under any circumstances.

I think everyone did pretty well, but Bachmann went too damned far with her Perry attack.
All Perry had to do was hold his own; he did. I admire him for unabashadly standing by his "nearly treasonous" remarks about Bernanke... no Romney-style flip-flopping here...

And I understand why Perry would have the same view, but it's a matter of fairness, a person despite their age who has no standing as a citizen should not derive a benefit that I, an American born tax paying citizen cannot get.

Now I don't think that's a great move, but since the Feds won't allow states to enforce the law (isn't AZ still getting sued?), there are not a lot of options.
So if Texas can afford it and Texans support it, that's life.
It doesn't suggest ot me that when Perry was in charge at the Federal level he would do the sorts of crap Obama is doing. I still think he'd enforce the border, stop prosecuting states that try to do the same, etc. He's not going to give the Dept of Education authority to make all states given in state tuition to illegals.
So I just don't see the big risk here.

My point is that it isn't only Texas' business. Maryland is near my state of Virginia. They have sanctuary cities. These are safe havens for the illegals to run to. My federal taxes support their subsidization of illegal behavior. For that matter, I'm in liberal NoVa. Alexandria is a sanctuary city, and we are overrun in the rest of the county. You can't treat it as a local problem, because it affects everyone. Or am I misunderstanding your point?

That's not the situation, but you know that.
Texas - Perry - asked the Feds to enforce the border. They won't friggin' do it. The illegals are there because of the Feds' failure. The state is merely allocating their resources - the state of Texas' resources - to try to make the best of the situation. That's Texas' business.
There's nothing to suggest if ICE went to UT Austin and rounded up the illegals the Texas Rangers would stop them.
Posted by: Y-not of the Verdant Wolverines at September 12, 2011 06:05 PM (5H6zj)
That said, Perry's the winner here, not because he won the debate, but because Romney is too slimey and the others simply can't measure up in terms of experience and capacity to run an entire country. Since Romney is the major hurdle here, and despite being an excellent speaker, his slick demeanor and bullshit attacks on Perry is going to hurt him badly.

Again, if Texas were in a vacuum, and they chose to spend their dollars that way, then okay. But what Tx does to facilitate illegals undermines American citizenship and rule of law. In this case, federal law must trump state law.

Perry wins - Everyone hits on him, he keeps his cool, keeps his feet and doesn't back down
Romney doesn't lose - He is mostly on point, doesn't whine and doesn't blow his answers on Ronmeycare (not that they are particularly good)
Bachmann, Huntsman, and Santorum lose and likely need to drop out - They came off as desperate and trying to gang up on Perry. They made the same mistake TPaw did against Bachmann earlier.
Cain, Paul, and Newt are there for the entertainment value - They give interesting answers and keep things lively, although Paul really pissed a lot of people off with his AQ answer and killing 100s of thousands of Iraqis. Newt laughing while watching Paul implode was priceless.

Sure it is, if the vaccination had been available when I was a kid and I'd had the vaccination I might not have developed cervical cancer. If my mother had had it when she was a kid whe might not have died from cervical cancer. This is what Bachmann and the others who are ragging on Perry forget: It is a vaccination for a very realy and deadly disease.

This idea that girls were forced to be vaccinated against their will is also B.S.
Another thing that is BS is the idea that Merck was going to get rich off this mandatory vaccination. Michelle Bachman, with her finanical accument, should know that the profit margin off vaccines is very low; vaccine production also comes with a high regulatory burden, which is why the US gets a lot of its flu vaccine overseas.
The thought that Merck and Perry colluded just so Merck could get rick off Gardasil is simply preposterous.

Are you saying the state of Texas is stopping the Federal Government from enforcing immigration laws? Do you really believe that is the case? Because that is not my understanding of what is happening down there.
Furthermore, my friend, all this Texas law does is decide how Texas' allocates resources vis a vis in-state tuition. What federal law does that break? If the University of Texas wants to give friggin' Greenlanders the in-state tuition rate, that's their business. It has nothing to do with anything else.

The way Gardasil was explained to me, it prevents cervical cancer, which does not require a sexual encounter to develop.
My daughter, wife & I discussed the issue regarding our granddaughter. She ended up getting the shot, because the rewards seemed to outweigh the risks. Future sexual activity didn't come up.

House Rule 5, clause 2(c)(1) says that “Broadcast coverage and recordings of House floor proceedings may not be used for any political purpose…” Additionally, House Rule 11, clause 4(b) says that “radio and television tapes and film of any coverage of House committee proceedings may not be use, or made available for use, as partisan political campaign material to promote or oppose the candidacy of any person for public office.”
Normally House ethics rules arenÂ’t a problem for the DNC. But since April of this year, a member of Congress, Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz of Florida, has chaired the national committee. Some say that the House ethics rule applies to the DNC ad for the simple reason that Wasserman-Schultz is chair.

Impressions on tonight:
Newt--again, the winner in terms of answers, staying on task of attaking Obama. However, not a serious candidate.
Romney--good on most substance, par on style. Took more than he gave based on audience reactions, still the clear #2 in the race.
Perry--Stronger showing this time, still didn't blow the field away. Didn't do anything new to lose support, but may pick up some support due to other candidates weakening.
Paul--Stick a fork in him. Absolutely savaged by Santorum on foreign policy. Expect him to lose anyone who cares about foreign affairs at all.
Cain--Better prepared with each debate, but doesn't have the juice to go the distance. At best, he's treading water.
Santorum--Some great one-liners. He's Cain's doppelganger, can't get it done nationally. I'd expect him to bow out in the not-too-distant future.
Huntsman--Why is he here again?
Bachmann--The big loser tonight. Her momentum is gone, and I see no hope of recovery. She thought she had a real shot to use on Perry with Gardisil but it was at best a flesh wound.
Bottom line--it's still Perry and Romney, the rest are playing for cabinet slots (except Huntsman and Paul, who are playing for vanity, I guess).

BTW, that vaccine is usually ineffective after about 15 because the girls have been exposed to the virus by then. I'm not entirely sure that sexual transmission is the only way that it can be picked up so I can see where Perry was coming from.
Think about what the hell you're saying.
It's usually too late at 15, because everyone already has it by then.
Everybody fucking has it.
Now last time I checked, while it is an infortunate problem for some people, including people that this vaccine cannot help because there are other causes of cervical cancer, we're not having any epidemic of cervical cancer.
Everyone has it. It's a bit much to say that HPV causes cancer. Does fucking everyone have cervical cancer?
Now maybe the vaccine is totally harmless, and there's no good reason not to decrease your risk, even if only by ridiculously hypothetically miniscule amounts.
I happen to think that's exactly the case.
But who the hell is the government to make health care decisions for you by mandate?
You think the State level government should be making mandates like this with a guy like Perry in charge?
OK...
Here's the real question. You think the random stylish metro ivy leauge empty suit identity-fetish we we elect in '20 because people are sick of Perry's Texas accent ought to be able to mandate what health treatments you and your family get too?

The problem with the opt-out is that it would evidently have been a pain in the ass to do. You had to jump through some retarded loopholes to officially opt out of the program.
We're all arguing a moot point though, the program never became live, as the legislature passed a bill to overturn the order, which Perry neither signed, but didn't veto either, so it passed by default.

sigh.
HPV is very common, routine Pap smears have greatly reduced the incidence of cervical cancer by detecting the changes that lead to it early. That being said, would any rational person here rather have a) polio, or b) a shot that prevents polio?
Like HPV, polio is a virus. Like HPV, most people who contracted polio were fine in the long run. Like polio, you can get HPV through no fault of your own.
Anyone want to bring back polio? Anyone? Then why the hell is everyone so worked up about the HPV vaccine when it has the exact same purpose?
Posted by: Conservative Crank at September 12, 2011 06:39 PM (vNpDB)
doesn't matter that there was an opt out. It should have just been made available for those that wanted it,
It's an expensive vaccine, and it would only be covered by insurance plans if it was mandatory. School children aren't getting Hep B either, but that is still a mandatroy vaccination.

And let me just say I love Herman. He would make a great cabinet member in a Republican presidency. And Newt is brilliant.....but....well, I'll shut up. I've met him (and his brrrr latest wife) and he's personable.
I'm leaning Perry because what this country needs right now is a ball-busting man who can elevate our country's status in the world again. I don't dislike Mitt, but been there and done that and still had to vote for McCain.

There are no safe bets. But I like both of these guys and the skirmishes between them make these debates serious barn-burners. I'd love to see all the dead weight swept away for two-man, mano a mano slugfests. Ultimately, I'd be very happy with a Perry/Romney ticket.
Perry's my #1 choice but he's not just going to coast to this thing; he'll have to fight for it. Romney, no matter what you think of him, regardless of whether or not you trust him, is a very formidable candidate. He looks presidential, he sounds presidential, he puts forth detailed and specific policy proposals and he's cool under fire. He will be very tough for Perry to put away.

It has nothing to do with Gardasil, or HPV prevention as a matter of health policy That you believe it to be so demonstrates that you either, (1) do not understand the charge, (2) are shilling.
The problem is one of Rick Perry, who brandishes himself as a small government, 10th Amendment disciple who has a huge distate for the state meddling into our personal agency as a free citizen to such an extent that he has brought up cesession from the Union.
Yet, when it comes to the state mandating the injection of juvenile girls without their conscent, without necssary parental consent and he implemented it by doing an end-run around the legislature (ie. the voice of the people) by way of executive fiat...

The style of writing seems to change throughout the day. I'm convinced that there are at least two folks using that laptop, and the one who's here now is a gay man who works in the fashion industry. He's hoping to be a famous stylist one day and keeps sending his "resume'" and dic-pics to Rachel Zoe. Well, at least he use to. Then she took out the restraining order. Now, he just continues to toil away backstage, watching the models change their underwear and wondering if they'd ride up his ass if he wore them. They take turns making him spray Evian on their asses and they giggle when they ask him to adjust their boobs inside their bras because their "nails are wet". They do it just to watch him squirm because, although he's clearly gay, he's in denial and is always talking about the hot "vajayjay" he got the night before. His locker at work contains an eyebrow brush, a nail buffer and, a photo of Oprah which he claims belongs to the last bitch he plowed. When fashion week is over, and he finds himself at home all alone except for his pomeranian named Anna Wintour (Winny, for short) and a cat named Judy Garland, he silently weeps for the life he could have had if it weren't for his mom stripping in the club and bringing her johns home each night. She missed his performance in Les Mis and he's ever forgiven her for it.
He's had a rough life and, it is for that reason, that I tilt my had to the side, stick out my bottom lip and ask:

I watched part of the debate and thought Rick did fine (did not see second half). Blitzer much better moderator than that buffoon Brian Williams the preacher man.
I have to wonder when they will allow Perry et all to discuss other issues other than HPV vaccine and SS. How about national security? How about the nukes in Iran? How about Russia cozying up to Chavez in our own backyard? What about Israel? What about the cuts in defense? It still seemed to be a "let's gang up on Perry" sort of night again. His weakest issue is the illegals, and I can deal with that as he wants states rights and he wants to put the National Guard at the freakin' border. I don't care about the HPV that he has apologized for. I don't care that he calls SS a Ponzi scheme as it is. If this is all they have against him: I don't care.
It all comes down to this: who do I want to face Putin someday? The answer is Rick Perry. Romney would try to negotiate. Bachman would scream at him in her megaphone. Santorum would tell him he is not nice. Ron Paul would probably make him his Secretary of State after selling back Alaska. Huntsman would ask him for a date and compare self-tanning products. Herman Cain would smack him upside the head (and should be on President Perry's cabinet somewhere). Newt would tell the commie who is boss (and should remain onstage in future debates to tell off the moderators). I still don't know what McCotter looks like. Would still vote for any of the above except for Ron Paul vs OBarfy.
The debate should center on the GOP vs Obama, not the GOP contenders vs Perry and Texas. Newt Gringrich and Cain try to lead the issue back but Bachman, Romney and Santorum want to knock Perry down a few points on the polls and the attack on Obama gets diluted. Not sure if it is working for them. Huntsman is like a broken record:drink own bathwater, rinse, repeat. Ron Paul is a loon. The End.

Perry's in trouble. And I don't like having to admit that.
The problem is that he doesn't seem to have enough 'endurance,' so to speak. He gets halfway through the debate (just like last time), and then he damn near falls apart. This time he got curbstomped on the HPV issue (which I think is a bunch of bullshit) and the immigration issue (which I think is a legit primary vulnerability but might actually be a net benefit in the general election), and he handled his answers to both extremely poorly. The "I'm offended if you think I can be bought for $5,000" line was AGONIZING...for the love of god, I can't be the only person who thought "oh wait, so you're saying that it would just take MORE money?" Because god that's how it sounded even though I know he didn't mean it like that. And his immigration answer was inarticulate and boilerplate...you could tell the audience was audibly revolted by it.
Romney won, and I didn't think there was really a chance of that halfway through the debate. I thought he looked a little petty and hair-splitting on the Social Security stuff (whereas Perry came off stronger on both that and the Fed Reserve issue), and I felt that even though his general points were always smart and solid, the audience (full of Tea Partiers, natch) was stacked against him and that took him off-balance. But he won simply by stepping out of the way while Santorum and Bachmann assaulted Perry and he failed to fend it off.
Michele Bachmann probably also 'won' the debate tonight in a sense, by taking back some of her voters from Perry, but she can go fuck herself, forever. Accusing Perry of being corrupt, in so many words, is beyond the pale.
Huntsman loses at life.
I honestly have no idea how others will score this, or how the polls will react, but I've got to think that Perry can't take many more debate performances like this. If he doesn't bring his "A game" against Romney from here on out, and learn to better fend off the ankle-biters, he's not going to survive to the general election. Pick up your game, Rick.

not nescessarily, like i've said before i'll support the person making the most conservative argument, it's the message that's important not the person.
tonight Bachmann agrued from the most conservative perspective, she said some things that are very true, basic truths that go beyond the technicalities being argued, the Santorum was with her on some and Paul was with her on some, Romney is the rockerfeller-repub and Perry, despite the bad-blood, seems to be more or less a Bush clone. and again, i repeat, if Perry is the nominee i will hold my nose and vote for him.

Am I supposed to be outraged about Enders testing a measles vaccine on retarded children? Fine, I am, but what does that have to do with the price of tea in China--especially since it happened years after Salk brought the polio vaccine to market? They didn't rip up the autobahn after Hitler was defeated either, you know. Just because someone is a monster doesn't mean we should throw out the useful things they did too.
Again, I ask--what does this have to do with the question at hand?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.....but I didn't see Perry attack anyone the way that he was being attacked.
I was prepared for Blitzter to be in attack mode. But he was actually mild compared to how the candidates all went after Rick Perry.
The thing that Bachmann did is inexcusable. I guess she would have us go back to the days when little kids were being crippled by polio and large numbers of people were dying from smallpox......But Perry would never attack her back, because she is a girl, and boyscouts don't do that.

In regards to experience, of which she has pretty much exactly the same legislative background as Obama, no executive experience, and a narcissistic personality based on what I've seen of her and eyewitness accounts from her staff. Very similar pattern, and I think because of it she would be a horrible President, even if she does carry the right ideas and political philosophy.
I thought Palin would have been a far better choice, but only if she had finished her term as governor (I don't care if she would have been crippled by lawsuits or whatever, should have just bit the bullet and taken it until her term ended.)

I have to ask: did Bachman mention her 23 foster children tonight? While I totally admire her offering her home to these children, I am tired of hearing of her sacrifice...almost as much as hearing Huntsman brag about being the only person on stage.
I think Bachman is a great Senator, I do. I simply am not ready for a woman president. I also don't like her shouting. She knows her facts, she knows her stats, and she is conservative. I simply don't want her as president but would vote for her in my ABO mindset.
Sarah Palin is a great mouthpiece for conservative causes, however her ship has sailed. It may have sailed when she was drinking coffee while watching turkey's get their heads chopped off behind her on national tv. Or it could have sailed with her reality show as she whacked halibut. Bus or no bus, she has her place at the table, as do Newt and Cain and Santorum and the rest (not Ron Paul). Just not the table in the WH. Her poll numbers have never been that great. I am tired of her tease. She either needs to cut bait or fish and stop the tease as that has grown old.
I do hope the herd is culled soon to make for real debates on national issues, not past records. I do hope Newt and Cain stick around a bit longer as they bring good stuff to the debates even with low polls. I could do without Bachman, Santorum and Huntsman on stage. Ron Paul needs to be home and medicated, as his entire fleet has sailed.

Jack Straw, I thought you and I were discussing the HPV vaccine and whether madating it is significantly different from mandating the polio vaccine.
However, if you want to talk candidates--Romeny would probably get a bit more of the popular vote, but I still think Perry is more than electable, and he serves my interests, and I believe national interests, better.

This is a woman who was more maligned more than any candidate I've ever seen in recent memory. I wanted her to be President just for the revenge factor alone, but now she's alienating the very people who have been supporting her all this time with this attitude.

if we could say that all 12 year old girls are at risk from sexually transmitted because all 12 year old girls have sex as often as they breathe then i would say "stick'em all, has to be done" but the problem is most 12 year girls aren't having sex, believe it or not but some of them are still taught to wait until they grow up and that having sex willy-nilly is a sin, the catch-all philosophy creates what you might call an issue of modesty, but it's really more than that, it's a rejection of the idea that people are capable of discerning right from wrong and passing that on to their children.

Parents are responsible for asking the proper questions for their children and making sure the doctor sufficiently explains before vaccinations and procedures. If your doctor gives you bad information, that's another matter, but with a matter like this you have an obligation to get the best information you possibly can.
Further, more younger people are having sex than you think. Is it the parents responsibility to teach sexual education to their children, especially in a day and age where culture is promoting more and more sexual liberation? Yes. But I would argue it's naive to suppose that all those who were raised with good morals will have an easy time resisting temptation.

Nah, I think Palin is just trying to keep Perry from running away with the nomination. Because once he wins it (if he wins it), she no longers matters one iota. She becomes completely irrelevant. So now she'll bolster Michele Bachmann as a way to prolong the race.
Of course that might just end up electing Mitt Romney. Which would actually be okay with me (this is the nice thing about preferring one candidate but not hating the other), but whatever. Anything to prolong Palin's moment in the sun.

If we are going to judge leadership skills and wisdom levels by how well someone does in a dumbshit debate format....then we will continue to get leaders who are not really leaders.
A guy like Perry is hamstrung in a debate with his fellow conservatives.....because his killer instinct does not come out against them.
Did you see how he walked up to the others on the stage and said "Hi fellas" and then shook their hands?
Perry has said several times now of the other candidates that "they are all good people and any one of them would be better than who we have now".
I haven't heard any of the other candidates say that.

You might just be able to get me to cross over to the dark side unless Perry can put together a good debate performance or two the next time out. I'm less concerned about the ideological issue you raise than you are, especially vis-a-vis Romney, who seems like a government tinker par excellence as well. (I'm actually NOT one of those people who looks at Romneycare and thinks "STONE HIM!" but doesn't it represent a very similar sort of government-interventionist approach as that you bang Perry with?)
What I'm concerned with at this point is electability. And I will say that Romney has impressed me in one way or another every single time he's gone out there on the stage at these debates. He would smoke Obama to ashen cinder if they shared a stage.

That's what this law is. Texas reduced tuition fees for all bordering states - so if you live in New Mexico, for example, you pay the same fees Texans do. I wish Perry would do a better job explaining this. He was talking about it on Mark Levine and that's how he explained it. Also, regarding the illegals, they don't get subsidized tuition, they just have the opportunity to pay the lower in-state tuition fee.

Seems to me Dr. Paul needs to be a bit more careful in his lunacy.
Also, did anyone else catch Huntsman, of all people, criticizing Perry for saying he (Perry) DIDN'T want to secure the border? Right or wrong, it seemed to me that Perry was talking about securing the border in a particular way, NOT that he didn't care about securing it at all.
To be honest, yeah, this year's field is better than last time. At the same time, I fret if this is a "good" field. But that's what we get, on both sides of the aisle, these days.

Palin understands the narrative is controlled in the post debate spin, so she'll shape her message, and deflect that of her rivals, from that vantage as long as possible.
Its not mean or unfair, its just smart. And she owes Perry nothing. Quite the opposite, actually.

She is far and away the single most responsible figure for the Republican reversal of fortune in '10.
And you critics remember nothing, appreciate nothing, and hey, that's politics in a political season.
But Palin has done nothing to warrant such hatefulness. You are attempting to deflect attention from the now obvious fact the blind embrace of Perry for president is a foolish and embarrassing mistake, on display for the entire blogosphere.
The corrective to that mistake is not to trash Palin.
