— andy Looks like it's Newt's turn as Not Mitt for this one. Which is ironic as hell, given that they're both slightly-smaller-big-government (at best) technocrats. The biggest difference between the two appears to be that Mitt doesn't blurt out every dumb idea that passes through his brain while Newt shouts them from the mountaintops.
Oh, well. At least they're both Not SCOAMF.
If the shoddy state of the race is enough to leave you wanting a second look at Huntsman, you'll have to wait. He didn't make the cut for tonight's debate, which begins at 9pm Eastern. That's "9", as in "9-9-9", which also won't be on stage.
The debate, which will be moderated by ABC’s Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos, takes place on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines — in a state where voters will gather less than a month from today to kick off the process of selecting the Republican nominee. To watch, tune into any ABC television station across the country or log on for a live-stream on ABCNews.com, Yahoo.com, MyABC5.com, and DesMoinesRegister.com. And look for special coverage and analysis tomorrow on “This Week” with Christiane Amanpour.
Sawyer and Snuffalufagus, huh? Amanpour must've been too busy filling out her Careerbuilder profile to complete the ABC trifecta of suck tonight, but at least you can join her tomorrow for what will hopefully be among the last of her turns as host of This Week.
Dear ABC,
That is all.
Sincerely,
Everyone
OK, on with the master debaters. Here are some suggested drinking words:
- China
- Ethanol
- Mandate
- Subsidy
- Federal Reserve (by anybody but Herr Doktor Paul)
- Silver dimes

"In order to make coverage more accessible, Congress must do more, including passing legislation to: establish a national health insurance marketplace by giving individuals the freedom to shop for insurance plans across state lines; provide low-income families with $1,000 in direct contributions to a health savings account, along with a $2,000 advanced tax credit to purchase an HSA-eligible high-deductible health plan; make premiums for these plans tax deductible; provide tax rebates to small businesses that contribute to their employeesÂ’ HSAs; extend and expand grant funding to high-risk pools across the country; and require anyone who earns more than $50,000 a year to purchase health insurance or post a bond."

Whose? If you mean Perry's, yes, as they're considered more formal than the workaday button-down. The higher and wider semi-spread point collar allows for more knot options beyond the four-in-hand, such as the half-Windsor, which is what it looks like Perry wears. He's been by far the best dressed male candidate this year. You'd think the gays would come running, but nope.

Well now who doesn't know what drone is what? Predator drones were only for surveilance and some were eventually retrofitted for attacks. All the drones made now specifically for offensive action are Reaper drones not Predators.

There will be no debates. Especially if Newt is the nominee. Obama's minions will go on the news, chuckle and say that the president concedes the debates to Newt, freely acknowledging that he's a master debater (and yes, they will use those words and Anderson Cooper will repeat it and giggle).
And Obama won't pay a price for it. Not a big one, anyway. Old precedents are swept away with The One.

I rather doubt this, for one this was the first debate without Herman Cain, and I think that's significant, and two, Perry is slowly maturing as a debater, putting distance between the major gaffes of his past performances. I think this is going to change the dynamics of the race, hopefully in Perry's favor.

Unfortunately, third or fourth place.
Ron Paul has a strong ground game with fanatical supporters and support. He has also benefited from the fact that he gets no scrutiny. Also, since he has no chance of being president, people feel free to vote for him in protest or to pick their favorite issue of his to hang their hat on.
Romney has a decent ground game as well. He can pull his 15%. Perry's is good also, although I would argue he doesn't have good Iowans on the team. If he's going to play the social issues game, he should have focused on marriage and, specifically judges. That's what indicated to me that his team was still too Texan.
Newt has no ground game, but his numbers are so high that he won't need it.

And sound sincere, even though I doubt his sincerity, being that he's a narcissist and all, but still it's a smart play.
But that's what I can't understand: Mittens should realize his refusal to concede any wrong does not make him look principled but arrogant, especially when it comes to Romneycare.

Mitt: I'm not a career politician
Newt: That's only because you lost your Senate race.
A deft puncturing of the only-Mitt-can-win meme.

It is a good hit on him and puts the lie to his "I'm a businessman not a politician" Yeah sure thing Mitt. Even though you've spent over a decade as a politician or running for elected office you're not a politician. Suuuuuuuure.

I agree. Andy Levy had the best take on the exchange, basically saying that you only bet an outrageous amount when you know you're right, which was Romney's point, I think. But, as Levy said, his mistake was in betting too little. He should have bet a million+.

I have no idea where you get *that* from. The afterlife is the afterlife.
But such paranoid sentiments such as yours about "how the Joos control everything" are the reason why, just when I was about to support Ron Paul because of his domestic policies, I couldn't.

Can someone explain to me why everyone is reporting that Perry was wrong on his bet? Perry said that Romney removed a line from his book saying that Romney care could be a model for the country. The line that was removed said, “We can accomplish the same thing for everyone in the country.” How is Perry wrong?
The explanation I have heard is that it says the country "could" do the same, not that it "should." But that seems a bit silly to me, because Romney has stood behind Romneycare. It's not like he is saying, the country could do this, but it shouldn't because it sucks. Instead, by saying other states could do the same, he is suggesting at a minimum that states would benefit from considering it. How is saying that different from saying "Romneycare can be a model for the country?"

I liked Michelle's quip about the pali's schoolbooks.
I liked Ron Paul on anything concerning the Fed. Especially when he talked about how their policy of printing money was what was destroying the middle class.
I liked when Newt told Mitt that telling the truth wasn't going to make things any worse for the Israelis. How many more missles are the palis going to launch in a day?
In the end any of them would be better than what we have now, but the question is how do we convince the dumb masses that this is not an episode of American Idol?

Mitt has a certain quality that really works well on TV. But for me, Newt won a lot of the debates because he has a different quality. Mitt is trying to emulate JFK and Reagan. Newt isn't doing that... he's being Newt.
I think if you ignore this persona crap, Mitt's got no chance and Newt or even Perry has won many of the debates (And Perry hasn't done well in three of them, I freely admit).
But if you do care a lot about the persona, and in this TV age it is highly relevant, Mitt wins with stupid people or people searching for someone to worship, and Newt wins with people who don't like fake-ass politicians pretending they aren't exactly what they are.

He's a fraud. His supporters know it and don't appear to care. I wish I understood that, but they all know there's a reason he hid that line.
Romney has repeatedly praised Obamacare for emulating aspects of Romneycare, and the same people worked on both very similar ideas.
Obamacare isn't just wrong because it's federal, btw, so this is somewhat of a side issue. Romney instituted a back-breakingly expensive entitlement that striped much personal freedom from his subjects.

I don"t know why any of the other candidates hasn't pointed this out in this fashion yet. Mitt has gotten a free pass on this point, and it's frustrating as hell. They just keep hammering the fact that RomneyCare and ObamaCare are essentially the same, to which Romney robotically responds that it's completely different because RomneyCare isn't federal, and everyone just let's him slide without challenging the tragically flawed premise of the law itself.

Posted by: Curmudgeon at December 10, 2011 11:17 PM (w7K7d)Newt is leading right now for a reason, and it ain't because of his strong ground game or his loyal staff. It's because he has won damn near every debate going away. Mitt has looked worse and worse as a debater since Newt caught fire. Granted, he's polished enough that his B and C game is better than most other's A game, but he's trending in the wrong direction from what I can see.

not TV per say, but the programming pumped out by the industry in general is all propaganda. from the commericals to the programs, they are almost all designed to seperate people from good sense and truth.
